Learning-Based Entanglement Generation For Quantum Routing, Tasdiqul Islam, Rasman Mubtasim Swargo, Md Arifuzzaman Sep 2026

Learning-Based Entanglement Generation For Quantum Routing, Tasdiqul Islam, Rasman Mubtasim Swargo, Md Arifuzzaman

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Entanglement generation in long-distance quantum networks is challenging because resources are limited and entanglement swapping is probabilistic. To maximize the rate of successful requests, existing quantum routing algorithms often rely on computationally expensive methods such as Integer Linear Programming (ILP) to determine which links to entangle and use for end-To-end entanglement generation. However, these approaches fail to meet the latency requirements of real-world quantum networks. In this study, we propose a Reinforcement Learning (RL)-based model that determines which links to entangle in each time slot, replacing the slow ILP-based link-selection phase used in prior algorithms. The proposed Deep Q-learning model …

Court grants tenant's pre-answer motion to dismiss illegal sublet holdover for failure to state a cause of action under CPLR 3211(a)(7). Predicate notices failed to allege facts constituting illegal subletting — no allegation of subleasing agreement or rent payments to occupants. Court analyzed RPL § 235-f 'roommate law' and found extended family members (spouse, children, siblings-in-law, niece) were lawful occupants. Predicate notices cannot be amended.

Healthcare System Barriers To Somali Refugees In Kenya, Zahra Sharif Hashim Sep 2026

Healthcare System Barriers To Somali Refugees In Kenya, Zahra Sharif Hashim

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Access to health care is a fundamental right of every refugee, yet gaps in implementing Kenya's Refugees Acts of 2006 and 2021 continue to limit access for Somali refugees in Dadaab camp. Existing research has documented resource constraints, movement restrictions, and other barriers to refugee health care, but how policy implementation gaps shape access in Dadaab has not been well explored. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to understand barriers to health care access for Somali refugees resulting from gaps in implementing Kenya's refugee health policies. The narrative policy framework guided the study. Data from semistructured interviews with …

Strategies Used By Small Information Technology Business Leaders For Retaining Employees And Business Sustainability, Ayodeji Rex Abitogun

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Failure to retain employees remains a significant concern for small information technology (IT) business leaders. Without clear, actionable strategies, these leaders may struggle to avoid the high costs associated with employee turnover, negatively affecting revenue. Grounded in situational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry project was to identify and explore effective strategies small IT business leaders in Nigeria use to retain IT employees for business sustainability. Participants included seven small IT business leaders in Nigeria who had used effective strategies to retain employees. Data were collected from semistructured interviews and publicly available documentation. Six themes emerged from …

Social Interactions Between People Living With Dementia And Staff In Health And Social Care Settings: A Scoping Review, Stephanie Janka-Spurlock, Georgia Page, Gary Hodge, Helen Lloyd, Susie Pearce Sep 2026

Social Interactions Between People Living With Dementia And Staff In Health And Social Care Settings: A Scoping Review, Stephanie Janka-Spurlock, Georgia Page, Gary Hodge, Helen Lloyd, Susie Pearce

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Dementia is an umbrella term for progressive conditions affecting memory, thinking, communication and other cognitive functions. These changes can make social interaction challenging, particularly in unfamiliar or overstimulating environments. Although social interactions between staff and people living with dementia are recognised as an aspect of care, existing literature across health and social care settings largely focuses on general care needs and experiences rather than social interaction specifically. Consequently, there is limited understanding of the types of social interactions that occur and the contextual factors influencing them. This scoping review aims to address this gap by mapping existing research on social …

Background: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly demonstrating the potential to reach human-level performance in generating clinical summaries from patient-clinician conversations. LLMs are usually evaluated against clinical summaries that focus mainly on patients’ biology and not on their biography (eg, preferences, values, wishes, and concerns). To achieve patient-centered care, artificial intelligence clinical summarization must incorporate patient-centered domains, implemented through patient-centered summaries (PCSs). Objective: This study aimed to develop a framework to generate PCS that capture patients’ values, preferences, and wishes while ensuring clinical utility for clinicians, and assess if current open-source LLMs can achieve human-level performance in generating PCS. Methods: …

Metal-doped boron nitride shows good promise for thermocatalytic CO2 methanation; however, it suffers from poor thermal stability and limited metal dispersion. Herein, a thermally stable nickel-supported mesoporous carbon-doped boron nitride (Ni/mC–BN) system is designed using a novel dual molten-salt strategy to enhance not only thermal-oxidative stability but also porosity, thereby facilitating enhanced nickel incorporation and high dispersibility. The carbonization of aminoguanidine, boric acid, and glucose at 1000 °C yielded a mC–BN material with a reasonably high surface area of 263.1 m2 g−1. Thermogravimetric analysis confirmed that mC–BN is highly stable in air, CO2, and N2 up to …

Artificial Intelligence Models For Automated And Semiautomated Analysis And Interpretation Of Clinical Electroencephalography, Sándor Beniczky, Birgit Frauscher, Fábio Nascimento, Shobi Sivathamboo, Catalina Rojas, Michael Sperling, Samden Lhatoo, Philippe Ryvlin, Levin Kuhlmann

Department of Neurology Faculty Papers

Electroencephalography is the most commonly used diagnostic tool for epilepsy. However, interpreting electroencephalograms (EEGs) requires expertise that is not widely available. Advances in digital technology and wearables have enabled large-scale EEG recording, generating vast amounts of data that cannot be managed through traditional visual interpretation by experts. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to augment human expertise and reduce workloads. The application of artificial neural networks in analysing clinical EEG recordings has led to major breakthroughs, bringing AI-based EEG interpretation closer to clinical implementation. In this Review, we summarise the most important research and development results in this field from …

Purpose: The study aimed to characterize the multidimensional burden of tinnitus on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using the EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) dimensions (mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression) moving beyond symptom severity alone.

Method: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using baseline data (N = 428, Mage = 54.9 years, 51.9% female) from several clinical trials examining the efficacy of internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy for tinnitus. Data were collected using a series of online questionnaires including demographic, audiological, and clinical variables. HRQoL was assessed using the EQ-5D-5L profile dimensions.

Results: Participants primarily reported no problems with mobility (76.6%), …

Fast Discovery Of Motivic Patterns In Symbolic Music Via Lossy Compression, Adam James Wilson Sep 2026

Fast Discovery Of Motivic Patterns In Symbolic Music Via Lossy Compression, Adam James Wilson

Publications and Research

Generative systems that react to live musicians require rapid analysis of musical data, which rules out deep learning models: they cannot be trained within the time constraints of live performance. But because analysis results are often transformed before use, we are free to reduce the parameters that undergo transformation to a small set of primitive states. We address this coincidence of constraint and opportunity with an algorithm for online discovery of maximal musical motives that achieves speed through lossy compression: the pitch and inter-onset-interval deltas for all pairs of events in a potential motive are reduced to two-bit values, conceptualized …

Post-Fire Erosion And Debris Flows In The Western Pacific Northwest, United States: Recent Science And Opportunities, Sara A. Wall, Kevan Moffett, Annette Patton, Ben Leshchinsky, Andrew C. Wilcox, Maryn Sanders, Heejun Chang, Josh Roering

Geography Faculty Publications and Presentations

Most research into post-fire geomorphology has been conducted in regions with frequent fire, such as in dry Mediterranean and temperate climates and less has been conducted in wet forests where wildfire is now expanding with climate change. Because climate, soils, topography, vegetation, management legacies and fire history influence post-fire geomorphic processes, research into post-fire erosion and debris flow hazards across a broader set of climatologies is needed. The western Pacific Northwest (wPNW) of the United States is susceptible to multiple types of post-fire debris flows (i.e. shallow landslide-initiated and runoff-generated) that can be initiated by longer-duration lower-intensity rainfall compared to …

Hidden In Plain Sight: Uk Social Work Educator Views Of Preparedness To Work With Individuals And Families Affected By Abi., Caroline Bald, Alyson Norman, Akudo Amediegwu, Talis Spirit, Temi Ademakinwa, Mark A. Linden, Mark Holloway, Michael Clarke, Andrew Bateman

School of Psychology

Acquired brain injury (ABI) is the leading cause of adulthood injury-related death and disability worldwide. Despite ABI’s prevalence, little is known about the extent to which social workers are prepared for brain injury working and specifically pre-qualifying brain injury curricula. This study employed a nine-item survey regarding brain injury social work knowledge. The survey asked about curricula inclusion within social work pre-qualification via multiple education providers to understand the extent to which brain injury training is incorporated within UK courses. This included a series of open-ended questions. Data from 36 survey respondents identified that 1) there was an acknowledged gap …

Training For Social Prescribing Link Workers: A Scoping Review, S. Tierney, G. Hanley, H. Napierala, L. Burns, K. Husk

Peninsula Medical School

Background: Social prescribing involves connecting people to community-based resources to address non-medical determinants of health. Central to its delivery are link workers; their effectiveness depends, in part, on the availability and quality of training. Despite rapid expansion of the link worker role on an international scale, training provision for this workforce remains fragmented and poorly mapped. Aim: To identify and describe training programmes for link workers reported in the published and grey literature. Methods: We followed the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology on scoping reviews. Six electronic databases were searched alongside targeted grey literature searching. Sources were included if they described …
