Designing High-Resilience Hybrid Metamaterials: A Systems Engineering Specification For Elemental Hybridization, Solitonic Stabilization, And Non-Destructive Process Verification In Artificial Crystal Lattices, Christopher L. Eckes Sep 2026

Designing High-Resilience Hybrid Metamaterials: A Systems Engineering Specification For Elemental Hybridization, Solitonic Stabilization, And Non-Destructive Process Verification In Artificial Crystal Lattices, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

Traditional artificial crystal lattices grown via high-mass commercial methods exhibit acute failure modes under extreme operational environments. These loops manifest as high-frequency acoustic micro-cracking along crystal grain boundaries during cyclic load profiles, or structural delamination driven by thermal expansion differentials across thin-film interfaces.

This specification introduces a formalized systems engineering framework for the elemental hybridization of lab-grown crystal substrates—specifically Thin-Film Lithium Niobate (LiNbO₃) and 3D Self-Assembled Inverse Opal Lattices. By strategically infiltrating these substrates with low-weight-fraction Graphene Oxide (GO) nanosheets and Boron Nitride Nano-Tubes (BNNTs), we create hybrid, non-linear metamaterials that isolate, dampen, and redirect destructive kinetic and thermal wave …

Reconfiguring Distribution Networks Using The Aco+Tnc Algorithm, Specifying The Location, Size, And Number Of Added Renewable Energy Sources, Mohammed Falah Hasan, Rana Ali Abttan

Engineering and Technology Journal

Distribution networks face increasing pressure from rising loads and renewable energy integration, making the simultaneous optimization of reconfiguration and distributed generation placement a critical engineering challenge, and conventional single-objective methods are insufficient for simultaneously addressing power losses, voltage profile degradation, and the structural constraints of radial networks. This paper proposes a hybrid framework that combines Ant Colony Optimization with the Truncated Newton Constrained method to jointly solve network reconfiguration alongside the optimal placement, sizing, and type selection of renewable distributed generation—both solar PV and wind—within a single unified model. The approach relies on a four-part weighted objective function covering active …

Sex-specific penetrance in autosomal-dominant Mendelian conditions is largely understudied. The neurodevelopmental disorder Pilarowski-Bjornsson syndrome (PILBOS) was initially described in females. Here, we describe the clinical and genetic characteristics of the largest PILBOS cohort to date, showing that both sexes can exhibit PILBOS features, although males are overrepresented. A mouse model carrying a human-derived Chd1 missense variant (Chd1R616Q/+) displays female-restricted phenotypes, including growth deficiency, anxiety, and hypotonia. Orchiectomy unmasks a growth-deficiency phenotype in male Chd1R616Q/+ mice, while testosterone rescues the phenotype in females, implicating androgens in phenotype modulation. In the gnomAD and UK Biobank databases, rare missense variants …

Measurements of surface-atmosphere carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) fluxes have been relatively sparse across the Arctic tundra and boreal biomes, causing significant uncertainties in carbon budget estimates from the region. While the availability of Arctic-boreal carbon flux data has increased substantially over the past decade, the data have remained spread across different repositories, scientific articles, and unpublished sources, making it difficult to leverage. Here we present a new dataset of monthly Arctic-boreal carbon fluxes (ABCFlux v2) across terrestrial (wetlands and uplands) and freshwater (lakes and rivers) ecosystems compiled from previous syntheses including the Arctic-boreal CO2 flux database (ABCFlux v1), …

Learning-Based Entanglement Generation For Quantum Routing, Tasdiqul Islam, Rasman Mubtasim Swargo, Md Arifuzzaman Sep 2026

Learning-Based Entanglement Generation For Quantum Routing, Tasdiqul Islam, Rasman Mubtasim Swargo, Md Arifuzzaman

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Entanglement generation in long-distance quantum networks is challenging because resources are limited and entanglement swapping is probabilistic. To maximize the rate of successful requests, existing quantum routing algorithms often rely on computationally expensive methods such as Integer Linear Programming (ILP) to determine which links to entangle and use for end-To-end entanglement generation. However, these approaches fail to meet the latency requirements of real-world quantum networks. In this study, we propose a Reinforcement Learning (RL)-based model that determines which links to entangle in each time slot, replacing the slow ILP-based link-selection phase used in prior algorithms. The proposed Deep Q-learning model …

Court grants tenant's pre-answer motion to dismiss illegal sublet holdover for failure to state a cause of action under CPLR 3211(a)(7). Predicate notices failed to allege facts constituting illegal subletting — no allegation of subleasing agreement or rent payments to occupants. Court analyzed RPL § 235-f 'roommate law' and found extended family members (spouse, children, siblings-in-law, niece) were lawful occupants. Predicate notices cannot be amended.

Healthcare System Barriers To Somali Refugees In Kenya, Zahra Sharif Hashim Sep 2026

Healthcare System Barriers To Somali Refugees In Kenya, Zahra Sharif Hashim

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Access to health care is a fundamental right of every refugee, yet gaps in implementing Kenya's Refugees Acts of 2006 and 2021 continue to limit access for Somali refugees in Dadaab camp. Existing research has documented resource constraints, movement restrictions, and other barriers to refugee health care, but how policy implementation gaps shape access in Dadaab has not been well explored. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to understand barriers to health care access for Somali refugees resulting from gaps in implementing Kenya's refugee health policies. The narrative policy framework guided the study. Data from semistructured interviews with …
