Importance: Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women is a persistent global public health concern with lasting impacts on the health of affected women and their children. Although previous studies suggest a potential link between IPV and mortality among children younger than 5 years (under-5 mortality [U5M]), the evidence remains inconclusive.
Objective: To examine whether different forms of IPV are associated with under-5, infant, and neonatal mortality.
Data Sources: Seven databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Global Health, PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science, and CINAHL) were searched from database inception to April 22, 2026.
Study Selection: Studies were included if they examined the association …
A Study On Police Budgets And Impact On Public Safety, Vera Thompson
A Study On Police Budgets And Impact On Public Safety, Vera Thompson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Law enforcement agencies face ongoing organizational and resource challenges, yet there is limited research on how changes in police funding relate to crime rates and violent crime. There has been increased public awareness concerning police related encounters with civilians, and this has intensified debates about reducing law enforcement budgets. Current literature indicates that although police funding, staffing, and community trust are closely associated with public safety outcomes, empirical evidence on the relationship between police budget reductions and changes in violent crime and overall crime rates remains limited and insufficient to support definitive policy conclusions. The purpose of this quantitative study …
Nurses' Perceptions On Emotional Exhaustion, Hannah Espera
Nurses' Perceptions On Emotional Exhaustion, Hannah Espera
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem that was addressed through this study is that U.S. nurses experience high levels of emotional exhaustion (EE) in their role as professional caregivers, adult learners, and educators. Grounded in Maslach's burnout theory, the purpose of this qualitative study was to explore U.S. nurses’ perceptions of EE as professional caregivers, adult learners, and educators. For this basic qualitative design, semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 nurses licensed in the United States who were working in direct patient care roles, across multiple specialties, and with various levels of experience and licensure. Through in vivo and pattern coding, the following findings …

Sensory Profile: Understanding Soothers And Stressors, Niki Elliott Ph.D.
Neuroinclusion
Sensory experiences shape how we move through the world: how we learn, focus, connect with others, and sustain energy across the day. For neurodiverse individuals in particular, sensory input is often central to how environments are experienced. Stress, fatigue, withdrawal, or overwhelm often emerge from a mismatch between a person’s sensory needs and the environments they are navigating, rather than from individual deficits or lack of effort. Lighting, noise, movement demands, unpredictability, clutter, and even well-intentioned routines can either support ease and participation or place additional strain on the nervous system. This Sensory Profile is designed to help individuals and …

Sports Injuries You May Overlook, Sarah Gubara, Greg Canty
Pediatrics in Practice: A CME Podcast
Could this recurring pain or sudden limp mean something more than a sprain? Greg Canty, MD, Medical Director, Sports Medicine Center at Children's Mercy, walks through how to recognize concerning pediatric sports injuries that are often missed. This episode covers X‑ray‑negative knee injuries (patella dislocation, ACL tear, meniscus), pelvic avulsion and transitional ankle growth plate fractures, and overuse conditions such as gymnast wrist, spondylolysis, Little League elbow, and shoulder impingement. Dr. Canty outlines practical red flags—swelling, inability to weight‑bear, point tenderness, pain persisting beyond two weeks in single‑sport athletes, and declines in participation—and explains how assessing training load, sleep, nutrition, …
Motivating Second-Order Differential Equation Models Beyond The Spring–Mass System, Katherine E. Rutherford, John C. Borger
Motivating Second-Order Differential Equation Models Beyond The Spring–Mass System, Katherine E. Rutherford, John C. Borger
CODEE Journal
Students in introductory differential equations courses often learn to associate specific equation types with familiar physical systems. While this approach supports procedural fluency, it can inhibit transfer learning: students recognize familiar forms rather than construct models from first principles. This paper presents a modeling-first instructional approach designed to help students recognize the shared structure of second-order differential equations across diverse contexts. Students derive governing equations from fundamental physical laws for multiple systems, including an Inductor, Resistor, and Capacitor (LRC) electrical circuit, a simple pendulum, and viscous pipe flow. Through guided comparison, students identify common components such as inertia, damping, restoring …

Megawatts, But Few Permanent Jobs? An Agent-Assisted Evidence Review Of The Data-Centre Construction Cliff, M. Reza Hosseini, Abdolmajid Erfani, Ania Khodabakhshian, Farzad Rahimian
Michigan Tech Publications
Purpose – Data-centre capacity is expanding rapidly, yet job claims vary by an order of magnitude. This paper synthesises quantitative evidence on facility-attributable construction and operational employment, separates direct jobs from wider multiplier-supported employment, and benchmarks data centres against energy and other built-asset comparators. Design/methodology/approach – A documented protocol governed an agent-assisted evidence synthesis: two search streams, deterministic identifier checks, record-level source review and six-layer coding. Roughly 4, 545 candidate mentions across about 591 records were harmonised to 44 rows from 20 sources. All 44 rows have completed source-verification records; no independent double coding is claimed. Estimates were compared within, …

A Multiwavelength Study Of A Long-Duration Very-High-Energy Flare From Bl Lacertae With Veritas, Avery Archer, Et Al.
Physics & Astronomy Faculty publications
We report the first observations of a long-duration very-high-energy (VHE; E>100 GeV) flare from BL Lacertae (VER J2202+422), taken with the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS). On 2022 October 15, the Fermi-Large Area Telescope (LAT) detected elevated GeV activity originating from this blazar. This triggered a multiwavelength campaign, which includes observations from VERITAS, Swift, NuSTAR, and select optical and radio observatories. VERITAS observed the source for a total of ∼9.8 hr between 2022 September 1 and 2022 December 1. An analysis of these data yields a ∼28σ detection of the source. While previously observed VHE …

Commissioning And Performance Characterization Of An Elevator Loading System For The Ucnτ+ Magneto-Gravitational Trap, Alexander Komives, Et Al.
Physics & Astronomy Faculty publications
We report the first commissioning with ultracold neutrons (UCN) of an elevator-based loading system for the UCNτ magneto-gravitational neutron trap at Los Alamos Neutron Science Center. The system replaces the previous trap-door geometry with a moving bin designed to transfer UCN from UCN guide height into the open trap while reducing their kinetic energy through an adiabatic expansion of the accessible volume. UCN cutoff energy scans, direct leakage measurements, and variable bin-hold cycle measurements were used to characterize the incident spectrum and the loading losses. Successive sealing modifications increased the effective bin population lifetime from 26.69 ± 0.62 to 47.64 …

App Div affirms Supreme Court's grant of defendants' motion for summary judgment dismissing plaintiff's cause of action for wrongful eviction damages under RPAPL § 853. Court holds the statute is "directed at unlawful evictions of tenants or other lawful occupants of property who have been in actual physical possession" and a claim under RPAPL § 853 is only available to one evicted from property of which he or she was "in actual possession." Plaintiff voluntarily occupied a separate side unit and visited the main home only to see his children, establishing no actual possession of the premises.

Level Of Stroke Center Designation And The Association With Hcahps Nurse Communication Scores And Hcahps Discharge Instruction Scores In North Carolina Hospitals In 2023, Donna Lee Frederick
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Strokes are costly and the leading cause of disability and a leading cause of death in the United States. Stroke management has improved through a partnership between The Joint Commission and The American Heart Association, which established stroke care center certifications for hospitals nationwide. Despite this progress, North Carolina (NC) remains within the Stroke Belt due to the high prevalence of stroke there. In some areas of NC, the stroke mortality rate is 40% higher than the national average. Guided by the Donabedian model, this quantitative correlational study investigated the association between stroke center designation levels and the Hospital Consumer …

Variability In Nutrient And Carbon Cycling Of Constructed Marshes, Alyssa Leclaire, Jenny Davis, Molly Bost, David De La Garza
Variability In Nutrient And Carbon Cycling Of Constructed Marshes, Alyssa Leclaire, Jenny Davis, Molly Bost, David De La Garza
School of Earth, Environmental, & Marine Sciences Faculty Publications
Salt marshes provide valuable ecosystem services, including filtering nutrients and trapping sediments from the water column, but are increasingly threatened by sea-level rise and coastal development. Constructed marshes offer a potential pathway to offsetting marsh loss, but the extent to which they can replace the ecosystem services provided by mature natural marshes is not well understood. Using a chronosequence of constructed marshes (1, 21, and 44 years old) and a natural reference marsh (>100y old) in Beaufort, NC, we assessed the development of plant communities, sediment characteristics, and nutrient and carbon cycling over time. We compared aboveground biomass, surface …
Ecofriendly Synthesis Of Silver Nanoparticles As Antimicrobial Active Agents From Its Cationic Precursors, Abdul Haris Watoni Watoni
Ecofriendly Synthesis Of Silver Nanoparticles As Antimicrobial Active Agents From Its Cationic Precursors, Abdul Haris Watoni Watoni
Chimica et Natura Acta
This review presents a comprehensive survey on the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from silver nitrate precursor using plant extracts along with their characterization and antimicrobial activity assessment. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles through a green chemistry approach is increasingly in demand because it is environmentally friendly, easy to do, and efficient, especially for the purpose of antimicrobial active ingredients in disinfectant and antiseptic formulas. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles can be carried out using silver nitrate as a silver precursor and plant extracts as a source of bioreductants and capping agents. The synthesis products are then characterized using UV-Vis …

Short Reflections: Production Of Mega Fäuna's Lp Softmore (2026), Guy Fenech
Short Reflections: Production Of Mega Fäuna's Lp Softmore (2026), Guy Fenech
Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai
This reflective practice journal documents my role as producer, recording engineer and mixer for softmore, the debut album by Sydney-based band Mega Fäuna, released through Blossom Rot Records in March 2026. The central focus of the reflection is the production methodology developed for the project, particularly an extensive pre-production phase using a compact, mobile recording setup that allowed compositional and arrangement decisions to be tested before entering a professional studio. This approach is considered against the five-day tracking session at Stranded Rec Studios, and against overdub sessions completed in a non-studio environment using contemporary restoration software to address environmental …
