The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to conduct a summative evaluation to determine the extent to which the college achieved its ASP’s qualitative KPI objectives from the perspectives of students. Faculty And "Teams": Academic Literacies In The Post-Lockdown, Digital University., Morgan Suzanne Blair May 2024

Faculty And "Teams": Academic Literacies In The Post-Lockdown, Digital University., Morgan Suzanne Blair

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The increased presence of disruptive digital technologies in academia has been a subject of multidisciplinary scholarly conversation and public speculation over the past few decades. Many literacy studies scholars have contributed to this discourse, examining topics like multimodal literacies and perceptions of agency among students. These scholars have noted with skepticism that such technologies may mask operations of power, surveillance, and control which serve the demands of an increasingly “corporate” or “neoliberal” university. Building upon this scholarship, my study contends that the evolving literacy environment of the digital university requires a closer examination of corporate-sponsored narratives and literacy practices implicating …

The Impact Of Cognitive Coaching On Educator Identity And Teamwork Through Classroom Observation As Perceived By Teachers And Administrators., Carrie Elizabeth Wade May 2024

The Impact Of Cognitive Coaching On Educator Identity And Teamwork Through Classroom Observation As Perceived By Teachers And Administrators., Carrie Elizabeth Wade

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Classroom observations are meant to help teachers improve their instructional practice and improve learning outcomes for students. But for many educators, traditional, in-person classroom observations can not only be difficult to arrange but difficult to truly gain valuable feedback from when teachers can’t see what was happening in the moment (Drago-Severson & Blum-Stefano, 2017). Teaching and leading in an environment characterized by a constant state of change is more likely to cause stress and negative feelings when the employees care deeply about the outcome (Wisse & Sleebos, 2016). Cognitive Coaching methods, applied to classroom observations, aim to reduce focus on …

A Design Science And Implementation Framework For Studying Interruptions And Its Application In A Dental Clinic., Carsten Ziegler May 2024

A Design Science And Implementation Framework For Studying Interruptions And Its Application In A Dental Clinic., Carsten Ziegler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Interruptions during dental treatment are frequent, and often have detrimental effects on quality of care, patient safety and processing times, and have an impact on provider satisfaction and performance. Interruptions can significantly increase the cognitive load on dental providers, making it hard for them to concentrate on complex procedures. Frequent interruptions also disrupt the workflow in general, leading to delays in treatment, which can reduce the overall throughput of a clinic. Unfortunately, there is no comprehensive approach to collectively (i) analyze interruptions in dental healthcare, (ii) design an intervention, and (iii) implement and sustain it. This research proposes a comprehensive …

Strong Coasts Collection

As coastal communities grapple with the impending risks of climate change, there's been a rush to find workable, scalable solutions. One promising approach is using "Nature-Based Solutions", a model of utilizing ecosystems to increase coastal resilience and improve well-being. The idea is that by restoring and conserving natural systems, we can reduce the impact of storm surges and erosion while creating a richer environment for people to thrive in.

Putting these solutions into practice, however, is a complex social endeavor. It requires that we not only develop a detailed understanding of the world around us, but also that we understand …

Examining Formative Leadership Experiences Of District Science Coordinators Using Collective Case Study, Khushbu Singh May 2024

Examining Formative Leadership Experiences Of District Science Coordinators Using Collective Case Study, Khushbu Singh

All Dissertations

Leadership in educational institutions can significantly impact the quality of education and student outcomes (Ferrell & Garner, 2023; Leithwood et al., 2008). District Science Coordinators (DSCs) play a pivotal role as district-level leaders responsible for enhancing science education (Whitworth et al., 2017). Despite increased attention from researchers and policymakers, a knowledge gap persists regarding DSCs' formative experiences in their leadership roles and their impact on teachers and students (Whitworth & Chiu, 2015). This dissertation focused on two research questions: first, the challenges and/or supports that DSCs encountered during their formative years, and second, the knowledge, practices, and attributes they considered …

The culture and work experiences of law enforcement lead to unique workplace trauma. The cumulative and complex trauma commonly faced by law enforcement officers can activate multiple stress-related illnesses, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These illnesses can have high personal costs to the individuals, lead to loss of departmental productivity and effectiveness, and incur higher expenses for taxpayers due to overtime and high turnover rates and potential lawsuits. Research over several decades has identified risk and resiliency factors for officers. One identified risk and resiliency factor is relationship with management. This project focused on improving the retention rates of at-risk first-semester nursing students by implementing a transition workshop. The background highlighted how social determinants of health may disproportionately impact at-risk nursing student learning and how evidence-based strategies improve retention. The practice question explored whether a transition workshop would enhance the retention of at-risk students. The PICOT framework included: in at-risk nursing students, does implementing a transition workshop versus no transition workshop improve retention rates within the first semester of nursing school? The body of evidence included a systematic review of best practice interventions for at-risk student retention and engagement, student …

Multicultural Competency In Police And Public Safety Evaluations, Kenny Gonzalez May 2024

Multicultural Competency In Police And Public Safety Evaluations, Kenny Gonzalez

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

With the changing demographics of the United States (US), police and public safety (PPS) psychologists are examining a more diverse PPS candidate pool. While previous research has found questionable culturally competent practices in specialties like forensic psychology practice, little is known about such practices among PPS assessment psychologists—the very specialist who screen prospective employees for public safety positions, like police officers, firefighters, and dispatchers. Accordingly, the current study investigated diversity, multicultural competence, bias, and debiasing strategies among PPS psychologists. A set of exploratory aims investigated the convergent validity of the Modern Racism Scale (MRS), an ad-hoc measure of attitudes toward …

Transformative Leadership: Possibilities And Contradictions In The Lives Of Four Early Childhood Directors, Sara Jill Wasserman

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

The purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore the ideas of transformative leadership when applied to the context of early childhood education, creating opportunities and challenges for the directors who lead the schools. More specifically, to better understand how ECE directors, who were trying to be transformative, interpreted their experiences and constructed corresponding realities as leaders. Through a series of individual and group interviews, I tried to answer the guiding research question about how ECE directors, working in private, preschool settings, navigate the tensions between a neoliberal system of schooling and the practices of transformative leadership. Exploring The “Risky-Business” Of Employee Informal Field-Based Learning: Implications For Employee Engagement In Informal Workplace Learning Behaviors, Ricardo R. Brooks May 2024

Exploring The “Risky-Business” Of Employee Informal Field-Based Learning: Implications For Employee Engagement In Informal Workplace Learning Behaviors, Ricardo R. Brooks

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Employee learning and development are critical to organizational success, particularly for jobs with highly dynamic and demanding work environments that require adaptability and skill. The literature suggests that most employee learning and development occurs through informal means (Tannenbaum & Wolfson., 2022). However, there may be some interpersonal risk associated with engaging in informal learning behaviors such as being viewed as incompetent or lacking in expertise, resulting in fewer opportunities for development and promotion. The objective of this research was to expand the nomological net of antecedents and organizationally valued outcomes associated with informal learning behaviors and to understand how the …
