Spent Hemp As An Animal Feed And Vertical Price Transmission In Us Hemp Value-Added Supply Chain, Solomon E. Odiase

Theses and Dissertations--Agricultural Economics

This thesis comprises of two articles covering spent hemp's prospects as an animal feed and the price interaction across the hemp commodity value-added supply chain. The first article uses a comparative analysis tool to analyze the potential of spent hemp as an animal feed or feed ingredient based on its yield, nutritional composition and market price. This comparative advantage analysis revealed that spent hemp is competitive based on its rich essential nutritional content, comparatively high yield per acre, and low market price. Furthermore, with the increasing drought conditions, production cost and market price of alfalfa hay, spent hemp may fill …

Representation Matters: An Examination In To How The Patient Experience Is Impacted By The Inclusion Of Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity Questions On A Health History Intake Form, Meghan N. Digneit

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

The disclosure of one’s sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) status is an extremely personal decision subject to a variety of internal and external factors. The disclosure of this status in the healthcare setting is an important topic that continues to be subject to discussion, research, education, and mutual understanding between the patient and provider. The purpose of this DNP project is to explore how answering SOGI questions on a general intake form impacts patient attitudes regarding the impending visit. This was a mixed-methods research study that included demographic questions, nominal data in the form of yes/no questions, and two …

Maternal Provisioning Of Alkaloid Defenses Are Present In Obligate But Not Facultative Egg Feeding Dendrobatids, Emily D. Villanueva, Olivia L. Brooks, Sarah K. Bolton, Nina Savastano, Lisa M. Schulte, Ralph Saporito Jan 2022

Maternal Provisioning Of Alkaloid Defenses Are Present In Obligate But Not Facultative Egg Feeding Dendrobatids, Emily D. Villanueva, Olivia L. Brooks, Sarah K. Bolton, Nina Savastano, Lisa M. Schulte, Ralph Saporito

2022 Faculty Bibliography

Poison frogs sequester alkaloid defenses from a diet of largely mites and ants. As a result, frogs are defended against certain predators and microbial infections. Frogs in the genus Oophaga exhibit complex maternal care, wherein mothers transport recently hatched tadpoles to nursery pools and return regularly to supply developing tadpoles with unfertilized (nutritive) eggs. Developing tadpoles are obligate egg feeders. Further, female O. pumilio and O. sylvatica maternally provision their nutritive eggs with alkaloid defenses, providing protection to their developing tadpoles at a vulnerable life-stage. In another genus of poison frog, Ranitomeya, tadpoles only receive and consume eggs facultatively, and …

The Impact Of The Coronavirus Pandemic On Adolescent Mental Health: A Literature Review, Grace Murnane Jan 2022

The Impact Of The Coronavirus Pandemic On Adolescent Mental Health: A Literature Review, Grace Murnane

Senior Honors Projects

The coronavirus pandemic, hereafter simply Covid-19, has pervaded and impacted in some way, shape or form the lives of everyone, globally. The disease itself can cause severe physical effects, but the indirect implications of quarantine and isolation have been shown to cause mental issues of concern among adolescents. Adolescents are at a unique point in their lives at which socialization is crucial for proper brain development. As such, this literature review will proceed with the goal of summarizing why adolescents need socialization, how Covid-19 has impeded that socialization, and the effects of a lack of socialization among that age group

Doughnut Economics - Incorporating Animal Welfare, Janice H. Cox, Peter Stevenson Jan 2022

Doughnut Economics - Incorporating Animal Welfare, Janice H. Cox, Peter Stevenson

Environmental Economics

Doughnut Economics is a ground-breaking system developed to change an outdated development paradigm based on endless economic growth, as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), replacing this by a new paradigm that is fit for the 21st century context and challenges, and which meets the needs of all people within the means of the living planet.

Doughnut Economics provides an excellent model for charting our post-COVID-19 economics future. We have only one cause for concern. Among its 21 planetary boundaries and societal objectives there is currently no room for animal well-being. COVID-19 has taught us that ignoring how we treat …

The Un-Iversalization Of Animal Welfare Law, Sabine Brels Jan 2022

The Un-Iversalization Of Animal Welfare Law, Sabine Brels

Legislation and regulation

Advancing the protection of animal beings is becoming a universal mission in this early twenty-first century. A few years ago, animal welfare was knocking at the door of the United Nations (UN). Today, it is entering this door. Animal lawyers and protectionists are working to support the full inclusion of animal welfare concerns into the agenda of the UN and its organizations, and to create a new UN-iversal regime. The protection of animal beings, long a missing piece of the international law puzzle, seems likely soon to take its place as a UN objective, alongside protection of human beings and …

Maternal Literacy Practices And Beliefs Impact Infant Development, Deirdre Cruz

Theses and Dissertations

Infancy is a pivotal time in the development of a human’s cognitive ability. There is a lack of research in this area, specifically on mothers and their beliefs about literacy practices and the home learning environment. By utilizing Bronfenbrenner’s ecological framework, this study explores the beliefs of mothers and how they impact the infants’ preliteracy skills and knowledge, which are paramount to success in kindergarten and beyond. Using a phenomenological study, the researcher interviewed mothers on their views of literacy, their infant’s home learning environment, and how they perceive their culture and mothering style impact their infants.
