Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In the present study, molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized using caffeic acid (CA) as a template molecule and then used for the extraction of CA and chlorogenic acid (CLA) from complex matrices. Syntheses were carried out in tetrahydrofuran as porogenic solvent using 4-vinyl pyridine, methacrylic acid, acrylamide, and 1-vinyl imidazole as monomers, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker and 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. In polymerization processes, different ratios of the template:monomer:crosslinker (T:M:CrL) were used to obtain the most suitable polymer. Caffeic acid:4-vinylpiridine:ethylene glycol dimethacrylate's 1:4:16 mole ratio of MIP was determined as the most convenient polymer for CA recognition. In addition, nonimprinted …

CONTEXT: Smallholders are responsible for a large share of global palm oil production. Yet, in Indonesia, the main palm oil producing country, smallholders’ yields remain low. Better management practices, including short harvest interval (HI, the number of days between two harvest rounds), could help to raise smallholder yields. However, at present, HI is long in smallholder fields and the drivers underlying this phenomenon are poorly understood.
OBJECTIVE: We explored agronomic, socio-economic, and institutional factors that underlie harvesting practices in independent oil palm smallholder farming systems in Indonesia to assess scope for sustainable intensification through shorter HI and reduced …
The Perceived Availability And Usefulness Of Academic Accommodations, Academic Supports, And Academic Self-Efficacy In Graduate Counseling Students With Invisible Disabilities: A Preliminary Study, Lisa Marie Ansell

Sleep, Nutrition, Hydration And Rest: The Equal Importance Of External Factors Outside Of Training And Practice For Sports Injury Prevention, Troy B. Puga, Rishabh M. Mazumder, Tiffany Ruan, Nicholas Scigliano, Grace Thiel, Kevin Treffer
Student Publications
Training and practice preparation have long received attention as the largest factors for injury prevention. While proper training and practice programs are a crucial component of injury prevention, they only represent a piece of a larger puzzle. External factors outside of training and practice such as sleep, nutrition, hydration, and rest are equally important for injury prevention due to athletes spending a majority of their day outside of their sport. These external factors have been shown to have powerful effects relating to injury epidemiology. They have also been shown to have major effects on the body’s autonomic and hormonal regulation …

Peripheral And Gender Perspectives: The Russia-Ukraine War And Africa’S Response And Impact, Osman Antwi-Boateng, Mohammed Huwaishel Al Nuaimi
Journal of International Women's Studies
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, most African countries avoided open alignment with either Russia or Ukraine, favoring a wait-and-see approach until the situation’s consequences for African households, energy security, and the agricultural sector became more evident. Using the nexus between world systems and dependency theories as an analytical tool, this study examines how African governments have responded to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and how the continent has been affected by the war. This examination is accomplished via a qualitative analysis of primary data such as reports issued by independent international organizations, think tanks, and media houses. Furthermore, the analysis …

Surviving Patriarchy: Ukrainian Women And The Russia-Ukraine War, Suaad Al Oraimi, Osman Antwi-Boateng
Journal of International Women's Studies
The conventional narrative about war and women, normalized by patriarchy, is that war is men’s business and that it requires specific masculine characteristics that women do not possess, and as such, women ought to be exempt from direct combat for their own good. So pervasive is this narrative that women are often portrayed in the media coverage of war as hapless and dependent victims in need of rescue and protection. Focusing on the case of Ukrainian women in the ongoing war against Russia, this study debunks the conventional narrative by positing that Ukrainian women have demonstrated agency in the face …

Human Needs: Overview, Michael A. Dover
Social Work Faculty Publications
Human need and related concepts such as basic needs have long been part of the implicit conceptual foundation for social work theory, practice, and research. However, although the published literature in social work has long stressed social justice, and has incorporated discussion of human rights, human need has long been both a neglected and contested concept. In recent years, the explicit use of human needs theory has begun to have a significant influence on the literature in social work.

Building From Scratch: The First-Ever Food Pantry At Lynn University, Stacy Alesi
Faculty and Staff Publications & Presentations
We will describe how Lynn University librarians took a risk, spent some money we didn’t have, and ended up developing Lynn’s first-ever food pantry. It has since been embraced and valued across campus, and will now be – we believe – fully-funded and made permanent. We hope this will lead to more systemic, full-scale programs to help food-insecure students. Word-of-mouth spread far and wide. Since opening in the fall, more than 700 students have used the pantry. Of 276 anonymous surveys received, 198 of them report that they use it because they cannot afford food. We’ve now partnered with Lynn’s …
