Unified Dynamic User State Vector With Cross-State Conflict Resolution For Recommendation Ranking, Anonymous
Unified Dynamic User State Vector With Cross-State Conflict Resolution For Recommendation Ranking, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Systems and methods are disclosed for recommendation ranking using a unified, explicitly decomposed user psychological state vector. A coordination layer loads per-user state values including mood, trust, cognitive mode, topic-indexed satiation, and topic-indexed curiosity, constructs explicit cross-state interaction features (including trust×curiosity, mood×satiation, mode×satiation, and trust×mood), and provides these to a ranking model to compute base scores for candidate items. A conflict resolution engine detects contradictory ranking actions implied by different state dimensions and applies a dominance hierarchy with cascading hard and soft constraints, including mood-based content suppression and trust-gated exploration as hard constraints and satiation discounting as a soft constraint. …
Parasocial Relationship Lifecycle Modeling For Creator Recommendations With Phase-Specific Ranking Strategies, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are described for recommending creator content using parasocial relationship lifecycle modeling. Interaction data are used to compute signals for each user-creator pair including cross-topic engagement consistency, engagement differential versus other creators within the same topics, and catalog coverage. A pair may be classified as parasocial based on thresholding these signals. A state machine assigns a lifecycle phase selected from discovery, rising attachment, peak attachment, fatigue, recovery, and disengagement using engagement level and engagement trends over time. Per-request ranking applies phase-specific strategies and exposure limits, selects a diversity dimension between topic diversity and creator diversity based on whether the user …
Object Redaction For High-Resolution Images Using Geometrically Aligned Generative Patches, Mira Leung
Object Redaction For High-Resolution Images Using Geometrically Aligned Generative Patches, Mira Leung
Defensive Publications Series
Redacting objects from high-resolution, wide-aspect-ratio images, such as panoramas, can be challenging, as certain automated methods may introduce resolution degradation, unpredictable cropping, or visual artifacts. Systems and methods can utilize an iterative pipeline that combines object detection with constrained generative inpainting and geometric alignment. A process may, for example, identify and mask target objects, provide a version of the image with blurred masked areas to a generative model for inpainting, and then geometrically align the generative model's output to correct for distortions. The aligned output can be used as a patch, selectively compositing the generated content into the masked regions …

World Literature According To Its Poster Children, Jernej Habjan
World Literature According To Its Poster Children, Jernej Habjan
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Some of the most influential pronouncements on world literature have been made by the kind of authors who are most likely to emerge as representatives of world literature once we agree on a definition, including Goethe, the young Marx, Tagore, Gorky, Hesse, Kundera, and the distinguished signatories of the manifesto for a world-literature in French. Breaking out of this vicious circle by referring to the authority of pure theorists of world literature is not the solution, as this would only pull us into a new vicious circle where most of these theorists would mostly remind us of the names that …
A Crisis For Utopia: Jameson, The Collective, And The Future Of World Literature, Trevor Jackson
A Crisis For Utopia: Jameson, The Collective, And The Future Of World Literature, Trevor Jackson
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Working with Fredric Jameson’s influential discussions of utopia and world literature, the essay suggests that the prospect of utopia is frightening and also possibly boring insofar as it threatens to drain away the already waning possibility of experience in a postmodern, globalized world. In this world, resentment of the present seems to go hand in hand with a nostalgia for a fictitious past, underscoring the difficulty of conceptualizing new social, cultural, and economic arrangements. Viewing world literature as a possible source of a new utopian thought, a utopia unlimited to its contemporary dystopian guises, the essay retraces Jameson’s pronouncements on …
An Arc Stretched Between East And West: World (Or Universal?) Literature In Maxim Gorky’S Publishing Utopias, Francesca Lazzarin
An Arc Stretched Between East And West: World (Or Universal?) Literature In Maxim Gorky’S Publishing Utopias, Francesca Lazzarin
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
The Vsemirnaia Literatura publishing house was founded in Petrograd by Maxim Gorky less than a year after the October Revolution. Aligned with the objectives of the new regime, its mission was to translate and publish a substantial body of European and Asian poetry and prose, thereby contributing to the broad cultural education of the emerging Soviet generations. These ambitions clearly reflect a key element of Gorky’s conception of culture as well: for Gorky, culture in its broadest sense (encompassing literature, art, music, and science) had the potential to unite humanity under the ideals of peace and harmony. Within this new …

BAU Journal - Science and Technology
The widespread use of the Internet is causing increasing security concerns regarding online communications. One method for achieving secure communication between authorized parties is steganography. We herein employ multilevel technologies, including compression, encryption, barcoding, and steganography to secure a secret text message. Type I multilevel steganography is used with a two-level setup. The first level uses enhanced least significant bit (secure LSB-L1) image steganography; the output is a stego-image file, the cover is an image file, and the secret data in this level is English text. The output from the first level is encrypted using the RSA algorithm, and the …

Self-Updating Media Collections Using Query Embeddings, Ashwin Goyal, Nick Staubach
Self-Updating Media Collections Using Query Embeddings, Ashwin Goyal, Nick Staubach
Defensive Publications Series
Media library applications allow users to organize their media such as photos and video into collections. Dynamic, self-updating collections are implemented in some applications, but are limited to narrow criteria such as a particular person label, a particular object type, etc. Current dynamic collection generation mechanisms do not support complex natural language criteria that a user may want to express, e.g., “all my photos after a workout; include screenshots from my fitness tracker.” This disclosure describes techniques that use a large language model (LLM) or other suitable model to transform complex user-specified criteria into a vector representation. Media assets in …

Dynamically Constructing Geographically Optimized Routing Graphs From Unstructured Multi-Modal Media, Nikita Agarwal
Defensive Publications Series
A geographically optimized routing graph is dynamically constructed from unstructured multi-modal media. A transcript is generated from audiovisual data of a media item. Words or phrases satisfying geographic spatial anchoring criteria are identified and associated with a first geographic location. Visual analysis operations are performed on corresponding video frames to identify a second geographic location. A modality conflict is detected based on differences between the first and second geographic locations. The conflict is resolved by applying deterministic weighting to generate resolved geographic locations. A routing graph is generated by sequencing the resolved geographic locations based on physical geographic proximity independent …
Mitigating Engagement Bias In Recommendation Architectures For Media Platforms, Acar Ary, Jason Sun, Ayush Patwari
Mitigating Engagement Bias In Recommendation Architectures For Media Platforms, Acar Ary, Jason Sun, Ayush Patwari
Defensive Publications Series
In media recommendation architectures, engagement metrics such as comment participation probabilities are utilized to rank content. A limitation exists where media items with intentionally disabled comments are unfairly demoted. In these instances, a lack of engagement is processed as a lack of user interest. To address this deficiency, a boolean feature indicating a disabled comment status is generated. This boolean feature is subsequently crossed with a comment participation probability feature. Through this mathematical cross operation, a separate weight is established for scenarios where comments are disabled. Zero-engagement values are thereby processed differently when comment functionalities are unavailable. Consequently, engagement bias …

Low-Bandwidth Call Mode Using Audio-Derived Expression And Gesture Parameter Streaming, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are described for a low-bandwidth call mode that replaces camera video transmission with streaming of audio-derived avatar animation parameters. During a real-time call, endpoints exchange capability information and negotiate an operating tier specifying parameter formats, update rates, and synchronization expectations. In response to user input or automatically upon degraded network conditions (e.g., low uplink bandwidth, loss, or jitter), a sender disables video frame transmission and processes speech audio in short windows using an on-device model to produce a time-stamped parameter stream including visemes and optionally expression and gesture parameters with confidence scores. The stream is adapted in rate, precision, …
Data-Driven Surface-Targeted Enforcement For Content Integrity Violations On Social Media Platforms, Umar Bakhsh
Data-Driven Surface-Targeted Enforcement For Content Integrity Violations On Social Media Platforms, Umar Bakhsh
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are described for enforcing content integrity violations on a social media platform using engagement-driven, surface-targeted actions. Engagement telemetry for a violating entity is analyzed to determine a distribution of connected engagement versus unconnected engagement attributable to recommendation-based distribution. Unconnected engagement is further attributed across multiple platform surfaces (e.g., short-form video, news feed, stories). An enforcement strategy is selected based on the engagement distribution, including selection of a soft enforcement action that removes or reduces recommendation distribution on one or more surfaces prioritized by their contribution to unconnected engagement. Enforcement effectiveness is measured by comparing engagement before and after enforcement, …
