Cascading Proxy Drift Detection And Corrective Action System For Multi-Layer Optimization Pipelines, Anonymous
Cascading Proxy Drift Detection And Corrective Action System For Multi-Layer Optimization Pipelines, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Systems and methods are described for detecting and correcting cascading proxy drift in multi-layer optimization pipelines. A directed acyclic graph represents proxy metrics across layers, including a ground-truth metric and downstream proxies. For each adjacent layer pair, a drift state is computed using sliding-window Spearman correlation, a trend estimate, and volatility, with adaptive window sizing via change-point detection. Cascade onset is detected based on a product of per-layer correlations and/or concurrent negative drift across multiple layers. Upon cascade detection, a drift source is localized using intervention-based tests including sequential freeze, counterfactual correlation estimation, and Shapley-value attribution (optionally via permutation sampling). …
Feedback Loop Intensity Monitoring And Automatic Intervention For Recommendation Systems, Anonymous
Feedback Loop Intensity Monitoring And Automatic Intervention For Recommendation Systems, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Systems and methods are described for monitoring recommendation feedback loops and automatically intervening in live ranking. A feedback loop intensity (FLI) for a user and topic is computed as a ratio of a user-conditional topic serving proportion to a global topic serving proportion over a rolling window. An organic interest score is computed from non-recommendation-channel evidence including one or more of search, direct navigation, creator following, or external engagement. An adjusted FLI is generated by dampening the raw FLI as a function of organic interest. When adjusted FLI exceeds configurable thresholds, a controller applies topic-specific, tiered interventions in the ranking …

The Impact Of Fear Of Aging On Luxury Consumption Among Middle-Aged Women, Jiyeon Lee, Xiaofei Wu, Dongwoo Ko
Asia Marketing Journal
This study investigates the relationship between fear of aging and luxury consumption behaviors among middle-aged women, focusing on the psychological and social dimensions of aging anxiety. Utilizing frameworks such as Objectification Theory and the Double Standard of Aging, the research explores how aging anxiety impacts attitudes toward luxury goods, mediated by fear of negative evaluation and body esteem. A survey of 288 women aged 41 to 60 was conducted, revealing that fear of aging significantly influences luxury attitudes and purchasing intentions. Findings indicate that luxury goods are seen not only as tools for status maintenance but also as avenues for …
Social Exclusion Cues And Collective Action Motivation In Environmental Campaigns: The Buffering Role Of Social Support, Hwan-Ho Noh, Warren B. Chik
Social Exclusion Cues And Collective Action Motivation In Environmental Campaigns: The Buffering Role Of Social Support, Hwan-Ho Noh, Warren B. Chik
Asia Marketing Journal
This study examines the influence of social exclusion cues on public engagement with environmental campaigns on social media, focusing on how such cues affect advertising attitudes and collective action motivation. Across two experimental studies, we investigated whether low engagement metrics, such as a small number of likes, function as symbolic exclusion cues that reduce perceived public support. The results indicate that social exclusion cues negatively affect advertising attitudes and collective action motivation, ultimately decreasing the intention to engage with the campaign. However, the presence of social support cues, which signal sustained public interest and social endorsement, effectively mitigated these negative …
The Price Of Expectation: How Luxury Consumers React To Quality Crises, Jeong Ah Yoo, Daye Hong, Yoon Hi Sung
The Price Of Expectation: How Luxury Consumers React To Quality Crises, Jeong Ah Yoo, Daye Hong, Yoon Hi Sung
Asia Marketing Journal
This study investigated the mechanisms underlying consumer responses to quality crises in luxury brands and examined how these responses differ depending on consumers' prior luxury brand purchase experience. The findings indicated that stronger price-quality inferences led to elevated product quality expectations. Further, when consumers encountered information regarding quality controversies, their heightened expectations produced greater perceived discrepancies, which subsequently had a negative impact on brand attitudes. Additionally, this study found that the negative impacts of perceived discrepancies on brand attitudes, purchase intentions for other products of the brand, and forgiveness intentions were more pronounced among luxury than among non-luxury consumers. Finally, …
Uncovering App Activity Patterns Behind E-Commerce App Usage: An Explainable Ai Framework, Myounggu Lee, Hye-Jin Kim
Uncovering App Activity Patterns Behind E-Commerce App Usage: An Explainable Ai Framework, Myounggu Lee, Hye-Jin Kim
Asia Marketing Journal
In today's competitive mobile ecosystem, understanding how general app activity influences e-commerce app usage is crucial for marketers. This study introduces an explainable AI (XAI) framework using SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to identify non-e-commerce apps associated with e-commerce app usage. Drawing on mobile app launch data from 1,000 Android users in South Korea, we train a machine learning model to predict usage and apply SHAP to quantify the marginal contribution of each app. Results show that apps such as YouTube, Naver, and KakaoTalk are strongly linked to e-commerce activity at the user level. By visualizing user–app associations and clustering users …
Can Ai-Generated Ads With Future Predictions Drive Higher Donations Than Human-Created Ads?, Chaewon Song, Sujin Song
Can Ai-Generated Ads With Future Predictions Drive Higher Donations Than Human-Created Ads?, Chaewon Song, Sujin Song
Asia Marketing Journal
The use of AI in generating ads offers benefits for NPOs, such as enhanced cost efficiency and personalized content. However, consumers often exhibit algorithm aversion when AI performs subjective tasks, like ad creation. According to mind perception theory, AI is seen as high in agency but low in experience. Given this, we hypothesized that including future predictions in AI-generated ads would mitigate this aversion. Across four studies, we found that AI-generated donation ads were generally perceived as less credible and elicited lower donation intentions than human-created ones. Crucially, when future predictions were included, the credibility and donation gap between AI …

From Emotions To Impulse: A Serial Mediation Approach In Tiktok Live Commerce, Amrul Asraf Mohd-Any, Moniruzzaman Sarker, Shaoxuan Lu
Asia Marketing Journal
Based on social exchange theory, this study investigates how interactions between influencers and followers during live streaming impact impulse buying behaviour. It explores how perceived influencer traits, namely authenticity, expertise, attractiveness, and homophily, influence trust, emotional attachment, and para-social interaction, which in turn drive impulsive purchases. Using PLS-SEM technique, a survey of 303 Chinese TikTok users reveals that emotional factors, particularly para-social interaction and attachment, have a stronger effect on impulse buying than trust. Authenticity and homophily emerge as essential in fostering emotional engagement, emphasising the importance of relatability over authority. The findings suggest that successful influencer marketing in live …

Journal of English Learner Education
This article presents a community engaged learning experience and its instructional implications for TESOL. The instructional cultures established in policies and practices that dictate college students’ engagement with the “real world” are dependent upon the ways they respond to and translate existing territories in social, cultural, political, and linguistic interactions with multilingual learners and communities. From a Deleuzoguattarian perspective on territorialization and deterritorialization, this article problematizes how college students perceive, and question established norms and taken-for-granted ways of doing emphasizing the importance of reflective practices, ongoing supports for all participants involved, and partnerships with local communities, advocating for a nuanced …

Cross-curricular instruction is the process of combining information from two or more subjects within a single discipline in order to help students integrate the knowledge and skills they learn from separate courses. The purpose of this study was to examine how cross-curricular instruction impacted speech-language pathology (SLP) graduate students' knowledge, confidence, and clinical skills related to the assessment of patients with co-occurring diagnoses of dementia and dysphagia. Twenty-three SLP master's students completed a questionnaire before and after receiving cross-curricular instruction on how to assess dysphagia in persons with dementia. The questionnaire …

Artificial Intelligence In Document Review: Statistically Defending The Process And Results Of E-Discovery Workflows, Aron Ahmadia, Nathan Reff, Matthew Reiber, Chad Roberts, Cristin Traylor
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) for document review allows legal teams to process and produce electronic documents on a scale, speed, and cost that would have been unheard of only a few years ago.
But as legal teams become increasingly dependent on AI to locate and prioritize responsive documents, courts and opposing parties rightly demand heightened verification that the workflow is well designed and that the evidentiary output is sufficiently accurate to ensure a full and fair adjudication of the facts at trial. This Article explores the processes and statistical tools available to litigants to respond to related objections …

The Recovery Of Meaning In A Digital Age: E-Discovery And The Renewal Of Judgment, William F. Hamilton
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
Modern litigation unfolds within a dense and expanding digital environment. Nearly every human activity now leaves behind emails, documents, metadata, collaborative communications, and machine-generated records that together form the factual foundation of contemporary litigation. This Article argues that electronic discovery is not merely a technical, managerial, or compliance process, but a core litigation practice concerned with the recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of the factual world on which judgment depends.
Tracing the evolution of discovery from its twentieth-century roots to the present era of pervasive digital evidence, this Article shows how electronically stored information (ESI) continues to alter the dynamics of …
The Coming Use And Misuse Of Artificial Intelligence In The Courtroom: A Judicial Perspective And Proposal, William Matthewman
The Coming Use And Misuse Of Artificial Intelligence In The Courtroom: A Judicial Perspective And Proposal, William Matthewman
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
While attorneys, litigants, and judges have always had to be vigilant for the attempted introduction of improperly enhanced or fabricated evidence in court proceedings, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its subset, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), has substantially increased the stakes. The task of identifying and exposing such fake or improperly enhanced AI evidence has become significantly more challenging. The current Federal Rules of Evidence and the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure are insufficient to effectively address the coming advance of AI-generated or AI-enhanced evidence. The rules must be amended, in certain respects, to provide attorneys, litigants, …

Retrospective: The Burney Centre, Mcgill University, 1945-2024, Peter Sabor
ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830
The origins of McGill University’s Burney Centre go back to 1945, when Joyce Hemlow was appointed to McGill’s Department of English. After publishing a major biography of Frances Burney in 1958, Hemlow initiated what she termed the Burney Project: a research centre devoted to producing scholarly editions of the journals and letters of Burney and her father, the music historian Charles Burney. The Frances Burney edition was completed, in 25 volumes, in 2019; five volumes of the Charles Burney edition have appeared to date, with a sixth and final volume to follow. Joyce Hemlow was succeeded as Director of the …

Teaching Evelina With Digital Humanities, Hilary Havens
ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830
Digital humanities, an interdisciplinary field that applies digital methodologies and technologies to the humanities, is an excellent lens through which to approach the eighteenth century. I integrate digital humanities tools and workshops alongside primary source readings in all of my eighteenth-century British literature classes to help students better understand those texts and the world in which they were created. In my upper-level undergraduate class on late eighteenth-century literature, I teach four digital humanities tools to students, two of them (StoryMapJS and Voyant) in connection with Frances Burney’s Evelina (1778). These tools train students how to uncover historical and geographic contexts …

Lifelong Learning: Approaches To Teaching Frances Burney’S The Wanderer To Adults, Miriam Al Jamil
ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830
The construction of a course for adult learners who are not studying for a qualification or credits but rather for enjoyment and engagement with learning for its own sake, requires an approach centered on needs which may not be entirely academic. Drawing on students’ individual life experiences while avoiding assumptions based on familiarity with the material shapes the course and offers many benefits. The essay is based on teaching Workers Education Association (WEA) courses and proposes the structure of a literature course on Frances Burney’s 1814 novel The Wanderer. It selects thematic content which resonates with older learners, such …

"I Don’T Know That You Can Do That Anywhere Else": The Role Rural College Towns Play In The Formation Of Queer Identity, Amy Mcdowell, Ryan J. Parsons, Julia Kraus
Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education
Challenging dominant narratives suggesting that rural spaces are inhospitable to LGBTQ+ identities, this study examines how queer individuals navigate space, rurality, and queerness in Oxford, Mississippi, a historically conservative college town. Drawing on oral histories from the Queer Mississippi digital archive, we argue that rural institutions of higher learning (rural IHLs) and the college towns they are embedded in serve as critical sites of queer identity formation. The rural college town provides a unique space where LGBTQ+ individuals from both within and outside the South navigate self-discovery, social networks, and belonging. We highlight the transformative role of these spaces in …
On- And Off-Field Impacts Of Foreign Players On Peruvian Liga 1 Football Teams, Juan Victor Aranibar, Claudio Rocha
On- And Off-Field Impacts Of Foreign Players On Peruvian Liga 1 Football Teams, Juan Victor Aranibar, Claudio Rocha
Global Sport Business Journal
Despite the growing globalisation of football, little research has examined how foreign players create competitive advantage in non-traditional leagues. Using the Resource-Based View (RBV), this study explores the on- and off-field impact of foreign players in Peruvian Liga 1 clubs. Semi-structured interviews with 12 sporting directors, commercial managers, scouts, and coaches were analysed thematically, revealing five themes: physical characteristics, leadership and mental strength, cultural barriers, competitive salaries, and commercial blindness. Findings suggest that although foreign players provide valuable physical and psychological attributes, these are rarely sufficient to create sustained competitive advantage. More notably, clubs fail to capitalize on foreign players' …
Internet Ethics, American Law, And Jewish Law: A Comparative Overview, Gertrude N. Levine, Samuel J. Levine
Internet Ethics, American Law, And Jewish Law: A Comparative Overview, Gertrude N. Levine, Samuel J. Levine
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
Societies are governed by codes of ethics. In developed societies, parts of these codes form a set of laws, enforceable by legal authorities, with or without assistance from the populace. At times, laws are crafted for the benefit of the powerful members of the society, ensuring preservation of their positions and property, while other constituents may ignore, actively disobey, or challenge laws they believe do not support their ethics. Developing and maintaining appropriate social norms is thus particularly critical for sustaining rapidly changing heterogeneous populaces.
The Internet, devised for the purpose of interconnecting diverse computer networks of research and educational …

Fintech And Disruptive Business Models In Financial Products, Intermediation And Markets-Policy Implications For Financial Regulators, Iris H-Y Chiu
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
A recent Financial Times survey indicates that the financial services sector (in mainstream terms) is concerned about the disruptive potential of several digital-based technologies as applied to financial services, such as blockchain, big data and robo-advisers. Not to mention that we have already of late witnessed the emergence of high frequency algorithmic trading, novel consumer payment devices, online crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending. Financial technology, which seems to be ushering in an order for upheaval, is defined by Price Waterhouse Coopers as "a dynamic segment at the intersection of the financial services and technology sectors where technology-focused start-ups and new market …

You Can't Hack This: The Regulatory Future Of Cybersecurity In Automobiles, Liz Allison
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
This Note argues that any new legislation imposing new safety regulations on car manufacturers is unnecessary, and will ultimately create more problems than it solves. First, there are numerous established laws that either already require what some of these propose, or address the issues involved in car hacking. Secondly, as vehicular technology becomes more advanced, so too will the methods available to fix the vulnerabilities within their systems. Finally, the government's inefficiencies and inability to stave off its own cyberattacks makes any type of federal regulations requiring minimum safety protocols a cumbersome option. For these reasons, this Note argues private …
