Formalizing Judicial Accountability And Advancing Ecocide Law At Cop30, Ratania Edawi
Formalizing Judicial Accountability And Advancing Ecocide Law At Cop30, Ratania Edawi
COP30
The escalating climate crisis increasingly intersects with profound issues of justice, human rights, and planetary survival, bringing urgency to the concept of ecocide. Despite mounting ecological degradation, transnational corporate actors frequently evade accountability, often shielded by mechanisms like Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) systems that prioritize profit over people and the planet. This policy paper argues for the formalization of judicial accountability in global climate governance and the advancement of ecocide law under international frameworks. It highlights the critical role of the judiciary in safeguarding environmental and human rights, particularly in the face of political inertia. Building on the ethical imperative …
Addressing The Abuse Of Monopsony Power In Labor Markets: Examining Potential Public And Civil Law Remedies And Sanctions, Zofia M. Mazur
Addressing The Abuse Of Monopsony Power In Labor Markets: Examining Potential Public And Civil Law Remedies And Sanctions, Zofia M. Mazur
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
Although thousands of reported cases involve allegations of firms illegally forming cartels in product markets, relatively few deal with similar allegations in labor markets. Moreover, as observed in legal doctrine, labor markets tend to be more concentrated than product markets and, consequently, more susceptible to anticompetitive conducts by undertakings. The article, therefore, analyzes the so-called monopsony power in the labor market, which refers to any case where employers hold labor market power that allows them to unilaterally determine wages or to worsen working conditions by reducing employment.
It is argued that competition law should be used to effectively curb abuse …

The Inaccessibility Of Nonprofit Organizations Data In Sub-Saharan Africa, Barnabas Suva, Robert Bhero
The Inaccessibility Of Nonprofit Organizations Data In Sub-Saharan Africa, Barnabas Suva, Robert Bhero
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
This article presents initial findings from a research study on nonprofit data across countries, focusing on the accessibility of nonprofit organizations in 49 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, following thorough research of accessibility data from nonprofit organizations, regulatory bodies, and nonprofit websites. Only 12% of countries maintain a functional public nonprofit organization database, and even fewer provide detailed, searchable registries. While 94% of countries legally grant nonprofit organizations tax exemption, mandatory reporting obligations are often not paired with public access, thereby weakening accountability. These findings situate data inaccessibility as an agency problem where principals (donors, policymakers, communities) lack sufficient information to …

Understanding Covid-19 Message Fatigue And Reactance In A Post-Crisis Context, Lillian Hamilton Mantel
Understanding Covid-19 Message Fatigue And Reactance In A Post-Crisis Context, Lillian Hamilton Mantel
Dissertations and Theses
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted widespread public health messaging encouraging behaviors such as vaccination, mask-wearing, and staying home when sick. However, persistent exposure to these messages has sometimes produced unintended effects, including message fatigue and psychological reactance. Drawing on psychological reactance theory (PRT) and the integrative model of behavioral prediction (IMBP), this study examines the relationships between message fatigue, psychological reactance, and behavioral intentions toward three COVID-19 preventive behaviors: vaccination, masking, and staying home when sick. A survey of 348 U.S. adults assessed participants' levels of message fatigue, psychological reactance, attitudes, perceived norms, self-efficacy, response efficacy, collective efficacy, and behavioral intentions. …

Quality Improvement Project Addressing Healthcare Provider Adherence To Diabetic Foot Exams In A Primary Care Clinic, Olaide Akinyinka
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Healthcare providers performing foot examinations are a crucial component in assisting Type II diabetic patients to maintain their health. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to determine how the providers' implementation of Inlow’s 60-second Diabetic Foot screen, compared to current practice standards, impacts the number of foot exams among Type II diabetic patients at a primary care clinic over 12 weeks. Therefore, it was unknown if or to what degree the provider implementing Inlow’s 60-second Diabetic Foot Screen impacts the number of foot exams conducted compared to the current practice among Type II diabetic patients. Life Course And Cohort Patterns In Screen Time Among School-Aged Children In The United States, Ashley W. Kranjac, Dinko Kranjac
Sociology Faculty Articles and Research
Objective
To assess the independent effects of lifecycle (age), historical (period), and generational (cohort) differences that influence the trends in extreme (>3 hours/day) screen time (TV watching plus computer use) among school-aged children in the United States.Study design
We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and hierarchical age–period–cohort statistical techniques to decompose, describe, and explain the population-level, secular patterns in extreme daily screen viewing time among 5 to 15-year-olds between 1999 and 2018.Results
We found that 58% of school-aged children engaged in extreme daily screen time. The probability of extreme screen time is …Better Together: Including Students In High School English Language Arts Course And Curriculum Design, Katelin E. Held
Better Together: Including Students In High School English Language Arts Course And Curriculum Design, Katelin E. Held
Doctorate in Education
This qualitative action research study examined how having students cocreate secondary English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum alongside teachers influenced student engagement and ownership of learning and staff attitudes toward cocreation. Conducted in a Midwestern U.S. public high school ELA department, the study involved four student and four educator participants, all of whom engaged in restorative-style focus groups with a larger number of students and teachers to collaboratively generate ideas for new course offerings. The study students and adults then participated in small-group semi structured interviews. Data were collected through audio-recorded group discussions, individual interviews, and researcher memos and were analyzed …

Background: Currently available immunological tests for SARS-CoV-2 assess only antibody responses. Despite the growing evidence that T cells play a crucial role in protection, especially against emerging viral variants, no routine test is available to determine T cell immunity. The prognostic value of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies for determining whether individuals are immune and protected against disease remains uncertain. This is in part due to the following: (a) specificity and limitations such as the sensitivity of antibody tests, and (b) the lack of correlation between antibody titers (quantity) and the antiviral function of antibodies (quality). Approximately a quarter of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients with …

Bay Staters Believe Healey Deserves Re-Election, Oppose Immigration Crackdown In Boston 9/29/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Just over half of Massachusetts residents approve of the job Governor Maura Healey has done and say that she deserves to be re-elected. Many Republican primary voters are largely undecided about the candidate they want to face Healey. In the race for U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, less than half of Bay Staters believe incumbent Ed Markey deserves to be re-elected. Most Massachusetts residents feel safe in Boston, support Boston's immigration policies, and oppose the increased deployment of federal personnel to enforce immigration policies in the city. Majorities support a limit on annual rent increases and Massachusetts officials coordinating with other …

Former Senator John E. Sununu leads 2014 GOP nominee Scott Brown for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 2026, both of whom trail Congressman Chris Pappas for the general election. Granite Staters are divided on whether Governor Kelly Ayotte deserves another term in office but very few have an opinion on two prospective Democratic candidates for governor. In New Hampshire's First Congressional District, most likely Republican voters are undecided on whom they will support, while Democratic primary voters show a preference for Stefany Shaheen, though more than half remain undecided. In the Second District, incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander …

Just over half of adults in Connecticut approve of Governor Ned Lamont's job performance and are divided on whether he deserves to be re-elected. Less than half of state Democrats want potential Democratic candidates William Tong, Susan Bysiewicz, or Sean Scanlon to run for governor. On state issues, a majority oppose a proposal by Lamont to use state pension funds to purchase part of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun as part of a plan to keep the team in the state. Six in ten Connecticut residents support Connecticut working with other northeastern states on vaccine requirements.

This article presents the strategic vision and comprehensive action plan of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) Research for Practice (R4P) Affinity Group, established to address the persistent gap between academic research and nonprofit practice in the third sector. Recognizing that practitioners are primarily focused on action and problem-solving while academics concentrate on knowledge accumulation and theory building, the R4P initiative creates a systematic framework for enhanced collaboration to maximize societal impact and advance evidence-informed practice. The R4P model employs a multi-dimensional approach through seven specialized sub-committees—Advocacy, Education & Training, Practitioner Engagement & Matchmaking, Research Accessibility and Sharing, …

Psychiatry Of Intellectual Disability In The Uk: Looking Back, Moving Forward, Rohit Shankar, Richard Laugharne
Psychiatry Of Intellectual Disability In The Uk: Looking Back, Moving Forward, Rohit Shankar, Richard Laugharne
Peninsula Medical School
In this century, psychiatry for people with intellectual disability in the United Kingdom has undergone profound shifts, shaped by deinstitutionalization, legislative reform, a focus on psychotropic reduction, an increasing recognition of the premature mortality, and a growing recognition of rights-based, person-centred approaches. Despite progress, entrenched challenges remain, including fragmented services, inconsistent outcome measures, inappropriate psychotropic prescribing, and health inequalities. The coming decades promise transformative opportunities through genomics, digital health, and personalized interventions, through integrated management of co-occurring conditions, but risk deepening inequities if inclusion is not intentional. This paper synthesizes past developments, including the impact of abuse scandals, legal reforms, …
