Prediction Of Mine Water Inflow Along Mining Faces Using The Ssa-Cg-Attention Multifactor Model, Ding Yingying, Yin Shangxian, Lian Huiqing, Liu Wei, Li Qixing, Qi Rongrong, Bu Changsen, Xia Xiangxue, Li Shuqian
Coal Geology & Exploration
Predicting mine water inflow plays an important role in ensuring mine safety, optimizing resource allocation, and improving work efficiency. This study aims to improve the accuracy and stability of the predicted mine water inflow. Given their strong correlations with water inflow, borehole water level and microseismic energy were chosen as multifactor characteristic variables. Using these variables, this study developed the SSA-CG-Attention multifactor prediction model for mine water inflow along mining faces. The new model extracted effective nonlinear local features of data utilizing a new network structure, which was formed by integrating a convolutional neural network (CNN) based on the time …
Heteroatom Effects In Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Emily Pavasars
Heteroatom Effects In Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Emily Pavasars
Symposium on Research and Creative Expression (SORCE)
There are several peaks in the infrared (IR) spectrum of planetary nebulae (PNe) like NGC 7027 whose origins are unknown. This has been a long-standing puzzle in the study of PNe. This project explores heteroatom substitution in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as a possible origin for these unidentified infrared emission (UIE) peaks. The heteroatom elements explored in this study are nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, silicon, and sulfur. Previous work has demonstrated that 3- and 4- ring PAHs emit a spectrum close to current spectrum data for UIE and a previous group tested nitrogen substitution in similar structures with varied results. I …
Modeling Close Binary Systems Within Planetary Nebulae, Lilly Blanton
Modeling Close Binary Systems Within Planetary Nebulae, Lilly Blanton
Symposium on Research and Creative Expression (SORCE)
Many fascinating and important processes in space occur in binary systems consisting of a white dwarf and a companion star in a very close orbit. Because of this, understanding this type of system is important to our overall understanding of our universe. These binary systems are born within planetary nebulae. However, only 26 such systems within planetary nebulae have been fully modeled, which isn't a large enough number to result in meaningful statistical data. In order to work towards increasing this number, I used the PHOEBE modeling software to obtain ranges for the secondary temperature, primary and secondary radii, secondary …

Did My Professor Waste Money?: Computational Cluster Configuration Variations And Cost-Efficiency, Christian Garcia, Nicholas Rosasco
Symposium on Research and Creative Expression (SORCE)
Parallel and distributed computing (PDC) and high performance computing (HPC) tools and techniques are becoming increasingly common and even necessary in many disciplines, particularly as large data sets and high computational loads become commonly encountered challenges. Experimentation in this space is somewhat constrained by the cost and availability of the assets that handle even small and midsize tasks in this space; initial tests and bench-marking may be the only chance to put systems through their paces. Therefore, it has become important to provide information on optimizing these smaller but still impactful systems. This requires experiments focused on delivering more capability …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Cannabidiol (CBD), nonpsychotropic cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa, is a very promising drug candidate offering many differential effects such as sedative, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. Nevertheless, the therapeutic use of CBD is hindered by its lack of water solubility and relatively low bioavailability. Various carriers have been used to address the solubility issues of CBD and other highly lipophilic drugs so far. However, self-assembled peptide nanostructures as carrier have not been used to improve the water solubility of CBD yet. In this study, a self-assembling peptide micelle was demonstrated to be an effective vehicle for encapsulation of CBD and …

Mechanism And Application Of Cross-Interface Fracturing For Permeability Enhancement Through The Roof Blasting Of Tectonic Coal Seams, Gao Kui, Wang Youwei, Qiao Guodong, Tian Yu, Fu Shigui
Coal Geology & Exploration
Deep coal mining is challenging due to deteriorating geological conditions. After undergoing multiphase tectonic movements, primary coals have evolved into soft tectonic coal seams with low permeability and high gas content, complicating drilling in coal seams. In this case, the blasting-induced fractures are not well-developed and are prone to be re-compacted. So far, no fundamental breakthrough has been achieved in the key technology of fracturing for permeability enhancement technology through the roof blasting of tectonic coal seams. Given this, this study established test models for similar simulation tests and numerical analysis on the roof blasting of coal seams. By monitoring …

All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
Disease intervention using CoralCure with amoxicillin is effective at stopping stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD) lesion progression, however, it does not provide protection against reinfection. Prolonging colony survival may require regular visits to treat new lesions should they appear. Intervention activities in southeast Florida were allocated between regular treatment and monitoring of selected priority colonies and broadscale disease interventions. The latter involved strike team divers, who worked in small groups to cover large areas of reef treating all SCTLD lesions observed, tagging the colonies, and recording their locations via a floating GPS. Broadscale disease intervention efforts aimed to maximize …

Trip - Transformer Interatomic Potential Predicts Realistic Energy Surface Using Physical Bias, Bryce Eric Hedelius
Theses and Dissertations
Accurate interatomic energies and forces enable high-quality molecular dynamics simulations, torsion scans, potential energy surface mapping, and geometry optimization. Machine learning algorithms have enabled rapid estimates of energies and forces with high accuracy. Further development of machine learning algorithms holds promise for producing general potentials that support dozens of atomic species. I present my own Transformer Interatomic Potential (TrIP): a chemically sound potential based on the SE(3)-Transformer. TrIP's species-agnostic architecture--using continuous atomic representation and homogenous graph convolutions--encourages parameter sharing between atomic species for more general representations of chemical environments, keeps a reasonable number of parameters, serves as a form of …
