Use Matters: How Different Ways Of Using Chatgpt Drive Ai Acceptance And Solutionism, Florian Golo Flaßhoff, Fabian Anicker, Frank Marcinkowski

Human-Machine Communication

Artificial intelligence is central to solutionism—the vision of a world where all major problems are solved through technology. This study theorizes about how human–AI communication shapes attitudes toward AI and influences the formation of public opinion, sparking solutionist imaginaries. We empirically examine the attitude formation resulting from the non-simulated use of an unmanipulated conversational model in a controlled laboratory experiment. Using a between-subjects design, participants engaged in three semi-structured 20-minute sessions with ChatGPT, providing a novel perspective on the effects of its use. The findings reveal that mere use of ChatGPT causally increases AI acceptance; however, its impact significantly depends …

Retracted: Adaptive Crossover And Mutation Mechanisms For Enhanced Lpb Algorithm Performance, Abbas M. Ahmed, Tarik A. Rashid

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

This study proposes a more effective concept of Learner Performance-based Behavior (LPB). It is a new metaheuristic algorithm based on how the university admission process is done for high school students in various departments. The adaptive crossover and mutation methods were incorporated into the LPB algorithm as part of an investigation. The goal is to enhance convergence and significantly improve the quality of the solutions. The aLPB (adaptive-learner performance-based Behaviour) method stands out because it sets the crossover and mutation parameters based on the performance of the parent solutions. Thus, the proposed technique achieves a balance between exploration and exploitation …

Iot-Enabled Machine Learning Framework For Prediction Of Eutrophication, Hocine Dai, Akli Abbas, Houssam Eddine-Othman Lachemat, Aicha Aid

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

This study presents an innovative predictive monitoring framework that integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) with advanced machine learning (ML) techniques to model the relationship between oxidized nitrate (NOX)—employed as the sole predictor—and chlorophyll a (CHLA), a key proxy for algal biomass. By utilising a single optimally selected parameter, the approach significantly reduces sensor deployment complexity and instrumentation costs, while minimising data acquisition and computational requirements. Logarithmic and Yeo-Johnson transformations were applied to the predictor and target variables, respectively, to address distributional skewness and enhance variance homogeneity. An optimised Random Forest model demonstrated strong predictive performance, achieving a coefficient of …

Multi Features Data Clustering Using Novel Statistical Method With Application To Color Images, Husham Y. A. Alameen, Ali Karah Bash

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

The efficiency and performance of the color image clustering algorithms are determined by various factors, including accuracy, data size, speed, and reliability (the absence of randomness in the results). Some applications, like microscopes analyzing images of biological objects or telescopes observing planetary motion prioritize accuracy over execution time. In contrast, surveillance cameras and moving object tracking prioritize speed and reliability over accuracy. This study introduces a novel algorithm that balances these four factors by clustering data with multiple features linked through specific relationships. The proposed algorithm has been practically applied to RGB color images. Traditional clustering methods, such as K-means, …

The flow shop scheduling problem in Multiprocessor-System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architectures presents challenges for traditional optimization algorithms, especially when addressing multiple conflicting objectives. Hence, advanced optimization approaches are required to tackle these objectives simultaneously. Therefore, this research aims to propose and evaluate a new optimization approach based on the integration of the Fire Hawk Optimizer with the Smart Battery Scheduling Algorithm (FHO-SBSA) to address the multi-objective (make span, CPU time, global average delay, network throughput, and total energy consumption) flow shop scheduling problem in MPSoC systems. To evaluate the performance of the FHO-SBSA optimization approach, two benchmark applications were selected, with ten …

Investigating Processes For Pattern Creation Using Coupled Bulk-Surface Pdes When Linear Reactions Occur, Muflih Alhazmi Sep 2025

Investigating Processes For Pattern Creation Using Coupled Bulk-Surface Pdes When Linear Reactions Occur, Muflih Alhazmi

University of Bisha Journal for Basic and Applied Sciences

In this paper, the reaction-diffusion partial differential equations governing the coupled bulk surface in the presence of linear reactions are investigated. Suitable boundary conditions of linear Robin-type are imposed for the aforementioned system in both the bulk and on the surface on stationary volumes. The current situation is simulated using four PDE’s, namely, two equations for the bulk, and other two different equations are introduced for the surface bounding. The analyses methodology is depending on converting the system into dimensionless forms then rigorous linear stability analysis is performed to determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for pattern formation. Various cases …

Memoir On A General Property Of A Very Extensive Class Of Transcendental Functions, Niels Henrik Abel 1802--1829, John Little

Mathematics and Computer Science Department Faculty Scholarship

We present this new commentary and translation anticipating the 200th anniversary of the work, commonly known as Abel's ``Paris memoir.'' This is recognized today as one of Abel's most original and influential works. It is significant mostly because it marked the first appearance of a form of a result in the theory of algebraic curves and Riemann surfaces that has come to be known as ``Abel's theorem.'' However, Abel's original understanding of the meaning and context of his result was quite different from the typical modern formulation and the development of the modern understanding has been a long and tortuous …

Amicus Brief In Support Of Ross Intelligence In Ross Intelligence V. Thomson Reuters, Jess Miers, Bryan L. Frye, Mateusz Blaszczyk

Akron Law Faculty Publications

This amici curiae brief, filed in Thomson Reuters Enterprise Centre GmbH and West Publishing Corp. v. ROSS Intelligence Inc. before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, argues that Thomson Reuters failed to state a viable claim for copyright infringement against ROSS Intelligence. The amici—law professors specializing in copyright and technology—contend that Westlaw’s headnotes are uncopyrightable factual summaries of judicial opinions and that the West Key Number System has long been in the public domain. The brief distinguishes between AI “pretraining” and “fine-tuning,” emphasizing that ROSS’s fine-tuning process relied on expert-created materials rather than wholesale copying. It cautions …

Glucodensity Functional Profiles Outperform Traditional Continuous Glucose Monitoring Metrics, Marcos Matabuena, Rahul Ghosal Ph.D., Javier Enrique Aguilar, Ayya Keshet, Robert Wagner, Carmen Fernández Merino, Juan Sánchez Castro, Vadim Zipunnikov, Jukka-Pekka Onnela, Francisco Gude

Faculty Publications

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data have revolutionized the management of type 1 diabetes, particularly when integrated with insulin pumps to mitigate clinical events such as hypoglycemia. Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing CGM devices in clinical studies involving healthy and diabetic populations. However, efficiently exploiting the high temporal resolution of CGM profiles remains a significant challenge. Numerous indices—such as time–in–range metrics and glucose variability measures–have been proposed, but evidence suggests these metrics overlook critical aspects of dynamic glucose homeostasis. As an alternative method, this paper explores the clinical value of glucodensity metrics in capturing glucose dynamics—specifically the speed …

Refining The Geochronologic Framework Of The Early Cretaceous Nonmarine Western Interior Basin, Usa, Jack Fekete Sep 2025

Refining The Geochronologic Framework Of The Early Cretaceous Nonmarine Western Interior Basin, Usa, Jack Fekete

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The Early to mid-Cretaceous marks a period of dynamic shifts in tectonism, depositional environments, climate, and biota across the mid-North American continent. However, despite their importance for understanding crucial biotic and geologic transitions during this period, nonmarine Early Cretaceous strata of the Western Interior Basin (WIB) remain poorly constrained geochronologically. Radiometric dating of syndepositional detrital minerals, such as ash-fall zircon, offers a solution to refining geochronologic frameworks. However, a magmatic lull in the Cordilleran magmatic arc during the Early Cretaceous limited the delivery of syndepositional zircon to the WIB, impeding such refinement. In this dissertation, I developed and tested new …
