La Traduction Audiovisuelle Freelance Aujourd’Hui – Réalités Professionnelles Et Écarts Avec La Théorie, Sylvain Caschelin, Julie Gravier

Al-Kīmiyā

This article examines the realities of working as a freelance audiovisual translator through the lens of the EMT (European Master’s in Translation) framework. By tracing the workflow – from client requests to the recognition of subtitled works – it highlights the gap between theory and practice, including issues such as economic insecurity, delayed payments, fragile contracts, and the general invisibility of translators. The study argues that professionalization requires more than linguistic expertise alone; it also demands a wider range of skills, including administrative, legal, and interpersonal competencies. Finally, it calls for stronger regulation and greater symbolic and economic recognition of …

Becoming Tricky In Measure For Measure: Isabella's Silences Revisited, Laura Kolb Jan 2026

Becoming Tricky In Measure For Measure: Isabella's Silences Revisited, Laura Kolb

Publications and Research

At Measure for Measure’s start, Isabella is presented as radically self-same, possessed of “no tongue but one.” By its end, she has helped orchestrate a bed trick and publicly lied about her sexual history. Measure for Measure presents trickery as a vehicle for truth-telling in the face of injustice that is both situationally specific—created by Angelo’s hypocrisy—and utterly mundane: a feature of being a woman in the world. Ultimately, the play suggests that trickery is woven into the fabric of femininity itself: into the repertoire of linguistic, embodied, and behavioral strategies women like Isabella develop in navigating masculinist systems, …

Sustainability In Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Simulation: A Mixed Methods Study Exploring Attitudes, Knowledge And Practices, Bangyun Wang, Louise Sheehy, Astrid Frotjold, Tamara Power, Gemma Saravanos

Individual Articles

Climate change is among the greatest of threats to human health. Paradoxically the health system is a contributor to planetary degradation through emissions and waste. Climate change and sustainability are important issues for the nursing profession. We explored the impact of an education module with embedded sustainability principles in the context of clinical simulation. This mixed methods study used pre- and post-intervention waste audits and student surveys to explore attitudes, knowledge and practices relating to climate change and sustainability. The intervention, a digital clinical simulation education module, included three themes: 1) professional conduct, 2) work health and safety, 3) resource …

Analysis Of A Few Quantum Algorithms And Circuits Related To Boolean Functions, Suman Dutta Jan 2026

Analysis Of A Few Quantum Algorithms And Circuits Related To Boolean Functions, Suman Dutta

Doctoral Theses

Boolean functions are fundamental to computation and presently play a crucial role in quantum information processing. This thesis presents two facets of Boolean functions in the context of quantum computing: (I) extending and applying the theoretical framework of Forrelation to cryptographic analysis, and (II) designing efficient quantum circuits for multi-controlled Toffoli gates and Boolean circuit implementations. Given two Boolean functions $f$ and $g$, Forrelation, introduced by Aaronson (2010), measures the correlation between the truth table of $f$ and the Walsh-Hadamard transform of $g$ at the corresponding points. Here, we revisit the Forrelation framework to study several cryptographically significant spectra of …

The Impacts Of Age-Related Peripheral Hearing Loss, Central Auditory Processing, And Cognition On Quality Of Life In Older Adults: A Scoping Review, Brian M. Kreisman, Samantha E. Vasquez, Anna J. Bierma

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

This scoping review aims to synthesize peer-reviewed literature exploring quality of life (QoL) for individuals with age-related hearing loss (ARHL), age-related central auditory processing (ARCAP) deficits, and age-related cognitive decline. A growing body of research has identified ARHL as a risk factor for the development of dementia, highlighting the connection between the sensory and cognitive systems. As the aging population continues to grow, examining comorbid age-related hearing and cognitive decline is especially relevant. These conditions may have potential negative consequences on the daily functioning, social participation, mental health, and overall wellbeing of older adults. A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature …

Pythagorean Neutrosophic Mathematical Modelling, M. Kavitha, R. Irene Hepzibah Jan 2026

Pythagorean Neutrosophic Mathematical Modelling, M. Kavitha, R. Irene Hepzibah

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Survey-based assessments often suffer from ambiguity, inconsistency, and uncertainty, which weaken the reliability of decision-making outcomes. To address these challenges, this study proposes a novel decision-support framework for data fuzzification, ranking, and agility measurement using Pythagorean Neutrosophic Fuzzy Sets (PNFS). The proposed method offers three major advantages: (i) enhanced ability to capture high levels of indeterminacy compared with classical fuzzy and intuitionistic models, (ii) improved ranking accuracy through a newly developed score function and ranking algorithm, and (iii) greater robustness in scenarios involving conflicting, incomplete, or imprecise expert judgments. The framework includes a refined Pythagorean Neutrosophic fuzzification technique, mathematically supported …

The Corinthian Twins: The Mystery Behind Naming King Lune’S Sons, Jono Darville Jan 2026

The Corinthian Twins: The Mystery Behind Naming King Lune’S Sons, Jono Darville

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Michael Ward’s landmark discovery, as outlined in Planet Narnia, unlocked the hidden structure of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia. Ward persuasively demonstrated that Lewis used the seven planets of medieval cosmology as an organizing principle for the Narnia series. With his discovery firmly in place, Ward has encouraged others to investigate the Narniad for new planetary connections and influences. To that end, in this article, I argue that C.S. Lewis named Cor and Corin after the books of 1 and 2 Corinthians in The Horse and His Boy, as these names are a perfect fit …

Human Sciences And The Truth Of Literature: Issues Of Theory And Method, Mohammed Fanane Jan 2026

Human Sciences And The Truth Of Literature: Issues Of Theory And Method, Mohammed Fanane

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

The article examines the question of the nature of literature within the broader field of the humanities, showing how literary discourse—since Plato—has remained an epistemically ambiguous domain because of its imaginative power and its capacity to unsettle rational notions of truth. From this standpoint, the text traces the epistemological shifts that have shaped the history of literary theory, from Aristotle’s concept of mimesis to contemporary approaches that expose the instability of fixed meaning and the openness of the text to multiplicity and semantic fragmentation. The article also addresses the issue of interpretation, recalling the emblematic confrontation between old and new …

Scientific Foundations And Their Manifestations In Literary Criticism, Hamid Lahmidani Jan 2026

Scientific Foundations And Their Manifestations In Literary Criticism, Hamid Lahmidani

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

The present study seeks to demonstrate the strong relationship between the various sciences and the practice of literary criticism, and to contribute to the shaping and development of critical programs. This occurs in parallel with the treatment of literary texts, the assimilation of their structural nature, and the subsequent uncovering of their allegorical and symbolic connotations. It has therefore been necessary to attend to the ways in which scientific disciplines contribute to the development of the mechanisms of literary criticism. Among these fertile sciences are mathematics, logic, and empirical forms of knowledge, followed by the human sciences such as history, …

Semantic Research Within Generative And Cognitive Linguistics In Morocco: Achievements And Prospects, Mohamed Aghlimou

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This article examines the current state of semantic research within generative and cognitive linguistics in Morocco. Since the 1970s, semantics, as an integral component of grammar, has undergone significant advancements. This evolution can be attributed to the incorporation of linguistics into Moroccan university curricula and the increasing interest of researchers in semantic issues through contemporary approaches. This trend has fostered a scientific initiative that not only engages with semantic production in classical literature but also critically interrogates and seeks to enhance it in line with emerging modern theoretical frameworks. We will specifically analyze two significant semantic projects in Moroccan and …

On The Arabic Language And Its Horizons: Visions And Conceptions, Abdelali Al Ouadghiri Jan 2026

On The Arabic Language And Its Horizons: Visions And Conceptions, Abdelali Al Ouadghiri

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This article examines the status of Arabic and its prospects by probing what “protection”, “development”, and “advancement” mean in Arab constitutions and how such provisions can be converted into workable policies. It adopts an analytical approach that differentiates between standard Arabic and local vernaculars, sets out five prevalent conceptions, and subjects them to critical examination. The study argues that quantitative optimism about speaker numbers and official spread conceals qualitative risks: a widening diglossic gap, pressures of linguistic globalization, colonial afterlives, weak scientific and digital presence, and absent enforcement in key sectors. It counters the view that safeguarding the Qur’an alone …

Specialized Translation And Language Teaching In Moroccan Higher Education: Bridging Theory And Practice Through Research In The Human Sciences, Abdelaali Kharmoum

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

In higher education, which has been profoundly transformed by the globalization of knowledge and linguistic diversity, specialized translation has emerged as a key tool for language learning. It goes far beyond the scope of a simple lexical transfer exercise and has established itself as a space for mediation where theory, practice, cognitive reflection, and cultural sensitivity intersect. The rise of digital technologies machine translation, CAT software, and interactive platforms now offers students easy access to specialized corpora, which are essential in highly technical fields such as medicine, law, and applied sciences, where terminological accuracy remains a fundamental requirement. In the …
