Overseas Military Transition And Post-Military Job Retention, Chea Hale-Hernandez Jan 2026

Overseas Military Transition And Post-Military Job Retention, Chea Hale-Hernandez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Adjustment from military life to the corporate or civilian world can be challenging for some individuals who have served in the armed forces. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of U.S. military veterans transitioning from overseas service to civilian employment and to identify the factors contributing to long-term job retention. The military transition theory and turnover contagion theory grounded this study. The participants consisted of 20 male veterans representing the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Army National Guard in Dayton, Ohio. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and public documents. Two themes …

From Rivalry To Ritual: Sungkeman As A Strategic Political Communication Tool In Indonesian Politics, Fitra Hadi Khaz, Erinaldi Erinaldi, Refdi Refdi, Dede Mirza

Jurnal Wacana Politik

This study explores the overlooked phenomenon of “political sungkeman “ as a culturally rooted yet politically strategic gesture performed by Prabowo Subianto toward Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during Indonesia’s 2019 and 2024 presidential elections. While symbolic gestures have been widely studied in global political communication, limited attention has been paid to how localized traditions like sungkeman are adapted to mitigate polarization and influence public perception in highly mediated electoral contexts. Utilizing a qualitative literature review combined with political discourse and media framing analysis, this study investigates the role of sungkeman through five analytical dimensions: political reconciliation, cultural symbolism, image strategy, public …

System For Autonomous Behavioral Verification And Remediation Of Migrated Database Code, Khushmeet Rekhi Jan 2026

System For Autonomous Behavioral Verification And Remediation Of Migrated Database Code, Khushmeet Rekhi

Defensive Publications Series

The migration of database code may result in data corruption when static translation tools do not fully account for behavioral differences between source and target platforms, for example, in rounding or null value handling. A dynamic verification approach can address this. A system may passively observe a legacy database to capture truth vectors, which can be records linking transaction inputs to their verified outputs. Translated code can then be executed in an isolated sandbox environment using these inputs. A semantic comparator may analyze the new output against the legacy output from the truth vector. If a material discrepancy is found, …

Assessing The Student Awareness To Age Friendly Design: The Case Of Ain Shams University- Architecture Students, Shorouk Saleh Ali Kabel, Samah Mohamed Elsayed Atteia Elkhateb, Rowaida M. O. Mohamed Rashed, Wesam M. El-Bardisy

HBRC Journal

With Egypt’s rapid urbanization and projected demographic shift, where individuals aged 60 and above are expected to constitute more than 15% of the population by 2050, addressing the needs of older adults in urban design has become increasingly urgent. Despite global recognition of the importance of age-friendly design, its integration into Egyptian architectural education remains limited, particularly concerning accessibility, safety, and inclusivity.

This study evaluates the level of awareness of Age-Friendly Design (AFD) principles among architecture students at Ain Shams University using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through an online questionnaire assessing students’ familiarity with the concept, while …

A place’s personality extends beyond its physical attributes—it reflects how people emotionally perceive and connect with it. This study investigates the relationship between the perceived personality of urban streets and users’ behaviour to enhance the quality of urban life in Cairo. Focusing on Downtown Cairo and New Cairo, it addresses a gap in destination personality …

RME-1: A Formal Specification for Geometric Semantic Refinement

Document ID: RME-1-2026-PRIOR-ART-01

Status: Public Disclosure for Defensive Publication

Core Methodology: Non-Euclidean Mapping of Abstract Logic to Sensory-Grounded Vectors

I. Mathematical Framework: The RME Hilbert Space

The RME-1 engine operates by projecting linguistic units into a multi-axial Hilbert Space. Unlike standard token-probability models, RME-1 enforces a Geometric Constraint (GC) on the output, defined by the relationship between four primary variables:

  1. Symbolic Density ($SD$): The concentration of domain-specific semantic tokens per unit of syntax.

  2. Sensory Gravity ($SG$): The coefficient of tactile or physical-structural grounding in the output string.

  3. Intent …

Exploitation Prioritization And Residual Risk Assessment Based On Hybrid Mcdm Model, Zibo Wang, Yaofang Zhang, Sicai Lv, Yingzhou Wang, Hongri Liu, Bailing Wang Jan 2026

Exploitation Prioritization And Residual Risk Assessment Based On Hybrid Mcdm Model, Zibo Wang, Yaofang Zhang, Sicai Lv, Yingzhou Wang, Hongri Liu, Bailing Wang

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Exploitation is one of the most significant ways to launch attacks using vulnerabilities. The increasing number of vulnerabilities and limited allocation of security resources make it impossible to eliminate all exploitations. Because not every vulnerability can be fixed, it is necessary to rank exploitations and subsequently assess the residual risk, which is defined as the remaining threat potential after each elimination. In this paper, a structured and flexible decision support framework based on a hybrid multicriteria decision-making model is proposed for prioritizing exploitations and assessing residual risk. Metrics are treated as criteria in the model. The hybrid model is developed …

Peninsula Medical School

ObjectivesDeep learning models developed for the classification of radiological reports have lacked explainability. We aimed to validate and explain a pretrained classification model by applying it to the removal of confounding data from a radiological dataset.MethodsTwo radiologists categorized 2038 anonymized MRI head free-text radiology reports for abnormality and for small vessel disease presence. Of these reports, 80% (n = 1630) were used to fine-tune pretrained transformer models to classify scans. Five-fold cross-validation was used in model development. The models were tested on the remaining 20% of the reports (n = 408). SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were used to explain the …

Discourse Markers In Conflict Management: A Literature Review, Erica W. Martin, Krystle L. Hunter Jan 2026

Discourse Markers In Conflict Management: A Literature Review, Erica W. Martin, Krystle L. Hunter

Peace and Conflict Studies Journal Conference

Discourse Markers in Conflict Management: A Literature Review

Discourse markers, often seen as fillers in conversation, are important for managing interpersonal conflicts. This literature review aims to show how these markers influence conflict dynamics, with implications for promoting peace and strengthening community relationships. By combining research from linguistics, communication studies, and conflict resolution, the review looks at how discourse markers function during three phases of conflict: initiation, escalation, and de-escalation. The authors aim to improve both theoretical understanding and practical approaches to engaging constructively in conflicts, enhancing cohesion within global and local communities through better communication.

Using a qualitative synthesis …

Absolutizing The Particular, Robert J. Antonio

From the late-1960s to the mid-1980s, Telos brought the Frankfurt School, Western Marxism, and other critical Continental thought to North America and the English speaking world; it was the critical theory organ of that era and best ever English language journal on the topic. Its left lean did not compromise its critical view of communist regimes and left-wing parties and thinkers. Its contribution with regard to critical theories, with Hegelian-Marxist roots, was so substantial and widely acknowledged that many former readers and, I expect, even some journal editors, who have advertised in Telos, during the last 25 years, did not …

The Characteristics Of A University And Urban Elementary School Partnership Project: Interventions That Impact Teacher Self-Efficacy And Their Emerging Social Network, Susan R. Cusack Jan 2026

The Characteristics Of A University And Urban Elementary School Partnership Project: Interventions That Impact Teacher Self-Efficacy And Their Emerging Social Network, Susan R. Cusack

Educational Studies Dissertations

The purpose of this research was to re-analyze and extend findings established by the 2011 – 2015 evaluation of a university partnership with an urban elementary school in the northeast region of the United States. While the original evaluation examined multiple domains related to the impact of the partnership’s effects on these elementary school teachers, my research will narrow and deepen the study of two domains: Teacher Self-Efficacy and Social Networks, both socio-affective variables that change over time. This research is grounded in theories related to teacher self-efficacy, social networks in education, and the emergence of a robust community of …

Traduire La Créativité Lexicale En Littérature De Jeunesse : Enjeux, Stratégies Et Proposition D’Un Nouveau Cadre Méthodologique, Inès Zorgati

Al-Kīmiyā

Language plays are often considered untranslatable, but is this assumption justified? Lexical creativity presents numerous challenges for translators and raises compelling questions, particularly in children’s literature, where linguistic experimentation is especially abundant. However, the presumed untranslatability of language play stems largely from linguistic and cultural preconceptions. This article argues that lexical creativity is indeed translatable through a variety of strategies. It introduces a new methodological framework that outlines the strategies available to translators. This framework draws on the works of Jacqueline Henry (2003) and
B. J. Epstein (2012), which are combined and further developed to support this approach.

La Traduction Des Décisions De Justice Comme Acte De Communication : Étude Des Juridictions Constitutionnelles Sud-Américaines, Mathilde Kamal

Al-Kīmiyā

In unilingual states, translating constitutional court decisions is a voluntary, non-binding practice. Such disseminative translations aim to communicate jurisprudence beyond national borders. In South America, only Brazil’s Supremo Tribunal Federal and Colombia’s Corte Constitucional have adopted this approach. This article analyzes their respective translation practices at three levels: within the South American legal space, within their national contexts, and through the specific modalities by which their decisions are translated.

Dialect As Shibboleth Across Generations In Post-Civil War Beirut, Tamara Sleiman, Rosine Zgheib, Nadine Riachi Haddad Jan 2026

Dialect As Shibboleth Across Generations In Post-Civil War Beirut, Tamara Sleiman, Rosine Zgheib, Nadine Riachi Haddad

Al-Kīmiyā

This article examines the enduring role of dialect in Beirut shaped by the legacies of the Lebanese Civil War. Drawing on interviews with two generational cohorts, 30 participants over 50 who lived through the war and 30 participants aged 18-25 who were born after it, this study investigates how lexical and phonological variation is perceived and experienced across time. Findings demonstrate that dialect remains a salient marker of belonging and difference, but its consequences have shifted from life-or-death stakes to patterns of mockery, adaptation, and negotiation in the post-war era. By integrating Arabic sociolinguistics with theories of indexicality and accommodation, …

L’Extraction Terminologique Outillée À L’Épreuve De L’Expérimentation : Proposition D’Exercice Avec Des Étudiants En Traduction, Rudy Loock

Al-Kīmiyā

This article reports on a terminology extraction project conducted with second-year master’s students enrolled in a specialized translation program. Students engaged in terminological extraction tasks based on a specialized linguistic corpus, with four different tools: a computer-assisted translation (CAT) software, a concordancer, an online terminology extraction platform, and a large language model (LLM). Students were subsequently required to perform a comparative analysis of the outputs generated by each tool, with the ultimate objective of compiling a monolingual glossary. The article offers a reflective evaluation of the project, which aimed to develop students’ evaluative judgment on the results generated by the …

L’Intégration De L’Ia Dans La Formation Des Traducteur·Ices : Évolution Sous Double Contrainte ? Le Cas De L’Université De Liège (Belgique), Valérie Bada, Perrine Schumacher

Al-Kīmiyā

This article focuses on integrating AI into the translation curriculum at the University of Liège, a challenge that must accommodate academic, legal and market-driven demands. Given that the ULiège translation programme has both academic and vocational grounding, the institutional politics has aimed at developing a critical awareness of the market demands (focusing on targeted, technical skills) and of scientific methods (based on a rigorous, metareflexive approach). It also fits into the changing landscape of translation education, shaped by pressures from three distinct spheres: academia, the professional market, and the legislative framework. After outlining our department’s history and presenting four courses …

روميو وجولييت: تعدّد النهايات – دراسة مقارنة لأربع ترجمات وفقًا لمقاربة لانس هيوسن, Nour Nasrani Snaifer, May Hobeika Haddad

Al-Kīmiyā

This article presents a comparative study of four translations of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet produced during three major phases in the history of Arab theatre in general, and of Lebanese theatre in Lebanon and Egypt in particular. It focuses on the diversity of the endings chosen by the translators, which vary according to the sociocultural context of each period as well as the way both audiences and theatre practitioners have perceived the role of theatre. The article reports the results of a comprehensive analysis that is not limited to the endings and that follows Hewson’s approach to translation criticism. The …

La Créativité Et Ses Fonctions Sociales Face À L’Usage De L’Ia Générative, Caroline Rossi, Perrine Schumacher

Al-Kīmiyā

This article asks whether creativity will still be a key skill for translators in the future, as we move towards ubiquitous and more diversified uses of generative AI. The focus is primarily on creativity in translation. Instead, creativity is here conceptualised as a soft skill, crucially linked with a number of social functions. We hypothesise that if the development of creative skills is linked to technical skills and accompanied by critical reflection on the latter, it could be one of the cornerstones of training programmes aimed at future proofing translators faced with rapidly changing professional environments.
The research presented here …
