Analysis Of Indigenous And Intercultural Public Education In Mexico, Felipe González Jan 2026

Analysis Of Indigenous And Intercultural Public Education In Mexico, Felipe González

Tanzania Journal of Sociology

This article analyzes the processes of indigenous and intercultural education in Mexico as components for the ideological construction of national identity. An important question arises: why do we Mexicans have so much trouble identifying with our cultural differences? From a historical and contemporary perspective, it is analyzed the articulation between two historical moments: a) The basic level indigenous education, implemented throughout the 20th century and b) The intercultural higher education, which began at the beginning of the 21st century. Although each one has its nuances, they are analyzed as part of a historical continuum that stands as a project that, …

The Mono Basin Project: Remedying Environmental Injustice Through Tribal Beneficial Use Designations, Molly Greene Jan 2026

The Mono Basin Project: Remedying Environmental Injustice Through Tribal Beneficial Use Designations, Molly Greene

UC Law Environmental Journal

Due to a history of violence, dispossession, and racism, Native American tribes in California face structural disadvantages and inequities with respect to water rights. At the same time, tribes lack meaningful legal remedies to gain access to the water resources necessary to maintain their ways of life. One key issue is that California water agencies traditionally did not consider tribal water uses when implementing water quality control laws, leaving such uses unprotected. For years, tribes have urged the State to fill in these gaps in the law by adopting tribal beneficial uses (“TBUs”), which would protect tribal water uses, such …

Workers’ Compensation Codes In American Indian* Tribal Nations, Autumn N. Siegel

American Indian Law Journal

This Article examines various Tribal Nations’ experiences in developing their own workers’ compensation systems using a comparative law and legal development approach, including direct interviews with a diverse range of tribal members. Tribal Nations’ self-created workers’ compensation codes predominantly rely on local models and expertise to establish and operate their systems. However, Tribal Nations also infuse their own cultural values into their codes, incorporating tribal perspectives and priorities such as valuing traditional medicine and peace-making alternative dispute resolution, providing more generously to volunteers, and incorporating return-to-work programs into their workers’ compensation systems. Some Tribal Nations also find it necessary to …

Improving Mathematical Problem-Solving Performance Through The Use Of Reading Comprehension Strategies, Rebecca Yonan Jan 2026

Improving Mathematical Problem-Solving Performance Through The Use Of Reading Comprehension Strategies, Rebecca Yonan

Masters Projects

Research shows that math problem solving relies on more than arithmetic computation. Word problem solving is a combination of text comprehension and word memory. Being able to successfully solve word problems at the elementary level helps prepare students for algebra, and higher academics. Learning to solve word problems teaches students problem solving techniques that can be applied in their adult lives. This project creates an instructional routine where lessons are built around teaching primarily through word problem solving. Students will receive instruction on text comprehension, math vocabulary building, word memory, and arithmetic computation in order to simultaneously increase their math …

Vietnam Music Education For Professional Careers In The Music Industry, Dylan Bao Nguyen

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Vietnam, a country in Southeast Asia, holds a rich cultural heritage and diverse musical traditions that span more than four thousand years. The country began commercializing its music industry around 1997 and expanded it into a significant national sector by 2015. Even with this expansion, Vietnamese music remains largely unfamiliar to global listeners, creating an urgent need for strong music education programs that support the industry’s development. To understand why Vietnamese music struggles to achieve global visibility in the age of globalization, researchers must examine the current conditions of music education and identify the specific factors that limit its international …

Social Support In The College Classroom And The Impact Supportive Communication Has On Student Academic Success And Quality Of Life, Rachael Tiede

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

College students often encounter academic and personal challenges that lead to stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. These challenges can feel burdensome, making it difficult for them to determine the best course of action for the issues they face. They frequently experience difficulties in managing the demands of college. Given these challenges, a potential solution for their anxiety and stress is social support through supportive communication from friends, instructors, and others at the college or university. Guided by social support theory and social penetration theory and employing a quantitative methodology, the research examined the impact of supportive communication on college …

Indian Journal of Law and Technology

This paper presents the first comprehensive empirical evaluation of Large Language Models’ (‘LLMs’) performance in Indian legal education. We compare six Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) chatbots with law students at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, across four subjects: Contract Law, Corporate Law, Criminal Procedure, and Jurisprudence. Our findings show that LLMs achieve performance comparable to human students (B+ grade), with newer commercial models consistently outperforming older and open-source alternatives. We also find that while LLMs excel in theoretical subjects and structured legal analysis, they show limitations in handling jurisdiction-specific knowledge and complex scenario-based reasoning. These findings have important …

Tiktok Containment Meets "The Threat Of A Good Example": Inversion Gets More Than 15 Seconds Of Fame, Marcus Breen

Fast Capitalism

When President Donald Trump proposed to ban the Chinese social media platform TikTok on national security grounds on August 6, 2020, it marked a pivotal moment in the interaction between many contending layers of political life. Cojoined in a register of nationalist rhetoric, US national policies cross-referenced geopolitics, and the history of international competition and cooperation in global trade flows with and against China. As such, the proposed ban gave credit to the ancient popular Chinese saying: “Things that oppose each other also complement each other” (Ban Gu nd: 84). More precisely, when seen through the lens of digital networking, …

“Rise Of The Resistance” And The Demise Of Social Being: The Autolysis Of Subjectivity In The Twenty-First Century, Reha Kadakal Jan 2026

“Rise Of The Resistance” And The Demise Of Social Being: The Autolysis Of Subjectivity In The Twenty-First Century, Reha Kadakal

Fast Capitalism

Structural transformations in the 21st century necessitate radical rethinking of the category of subject that underlie the notions of autonomy, agency and individuality. This paper depicts an onto-genetic transformation of the subject— its autolysis—in the historical present by building on representations and the mediation of categories of social life. The paper first delineates the notion of representation as a central element of critical ontology as a form of social theory by building on Hegel and Durkheim. It then draws on a recent product from the culture industry, namely The Disneyland theme-park ride called “Rise of the Resistance,” which involves a …

The child’s orientation towards connection is …

The Corpus Juris Of (Alaska Native) Inherent Tribal Sovereignty, Nazune Menka Jan 2026

The Corpus Juris Of (Alaska Native) Inherent Tribal Sovereignty, Nazune Menka

Alaska Law Review

The inherent Tribal sovereignty of Native nations predates the formation of the United States and is reflected in the constitutional vision of tripartite sovereignty. Yet their sovereignty is oft diminished explicitly by federal law or implicitly by federal courts. This implicit divestiture is often the result of the federal judiciary’s inconsistent interpretations of Indigenous Peoples law. This Article argues that a more principled and coherent approach for federal judges would be to consistently make use of the corpus juris, or whole body of law, including the in pari materia or affiliated statutes canon. The Article posits that the corpus juris …

A Model For Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Literacy Education: Reflections On Teaching Graduate-Level Teacher Education Courses, Hyunjin Jinna Kim

International Journal of Transformative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This practice-oriented self-study examines the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) literacy education model grounded in my reflective teaching practices and journey in graduate-level teacher education courses. As AI tools become increasingly embedded in educational and everyday technologies, both teachers and learners often remain unaware of the algorithms, data ethics, and biases that shape AI-driven systems (Ghallab, 2019; Ng et al., 2022). Recognizing that many teachers and teacher candidates responsible for educating the next generation have a minimal understanding of AI tools’ limitations and the ethical risks involved in AI use, I drew on my own experiences and knowledge as …

Las Filipinas: The Persistence Of Spain In Jessica Hagedorn's Dogeaters, Blake Seana Locklin Jan 2026

Las Filipinas: The Persistence Of Spain In Jessica Hagedorn's Dogeaters, Blake Seana Locklin

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

This essay argues for the significance of the legacy of Spain in Jessica Hagedorn's Dogeaters. Critical analyses have explored many aspects of the novel's portrayal of relations between the Philippines and the United States, a more recent colonizer whose influence on politics and culture is prominent in Dogeaters. The effects of Spanish colonization are more subtle in the novel, but pervade its representation of characters, language, and society. While highlighting the fragmentation of individual and national identities, Dogeaters depicts a Philippines in which many social and political problems have roots in the Spanish colonial era. Building on the …

System For Epistemologically-Informed Text Generation With Language Models, Kenneth Steimel, Aman Sardana, Scott Dozier Jan 2026

System For Epistemologically-Informed Text Generation With Language Models, Kenneth Steimel, Aman Sardana, Scott Dozier

Defensive Publications Series

Proposed herein is a system that enables Large Language Models (LLMs) to automatically generate linguistically appropriate hedging language that accurately reflects the reliability of underlying information sources. By extracting multi-dimensional epistemological metadata (source authority, temporal relevance, evidential support) from knowledge base documents and integrating this metadata directly into LLM generation processes through augmented attention mechanisms, the system produces responses where confidence expressions match actual source reliability. The approach addresses the "confidently incorrect" problem in high-stakes applications (medical, legal, financial) by ensuring LLMs communicate uncertainty appropriately, using domain-specific hedging conventions and continuous feedback-driven refinement.

Positionality And Reflexive Epistemology In The Study Of Women's Circles Of Quranic Exegesis In Casablanca, Amina Aboulasse Jan 2026

Positionality And Reflexive Epistemology In The Study Of Women's Circles Of Quranic Exegesis In Casablanca, Amina Aboulasse

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

In this article, I examine the gendered transmission of religious knowledge in Morocco based on my ethnographic fieldwork among women's Koranic exegesis circles in Casablanca. Since the 2004 reform, female preachers have been operating within an institutional framework where their legitimacy is recognised but constrained by the norms of ‘moderate Islam’, while parallel spaces – domestic and digital – are developing that are more open to discursive innovation and multilingual registers. Using an auto-ethnographic approach, I use my body, engaged in ritual and social practices, as an instrument of analysis to understand how religious normativity is incorporated and also gives …

“She Was My Egg Donor, Not My Mom”: Using Attribution Theory To Understand How Adult Daughters Manage Their Low-Quality Daughter-Mother Relationship, Denise Alonso-Pecora, Crystal Nguyen, Jennifer L. Bevan, Michelle Miller-Day, Allison Alford

Communication Faculty Articles and Research

This study employs attribution theory to examine how adult daughters from low-income backgrounds perceive and manage low-quality daughter-mother relationships. Using in-depth interviews and flexible coding, we analyzed how daughters (n = 42) attribute locus, responsibility, specificity, and stability. Daughters often located control internally within their mothers, citing enduring traits as sources of conflict while noting external influences such as trauma or substance abuse. Responsibility was frequently self-assumed despite blaming mothers, positioning attribution as a means of asserting agency. Many saw their relationships as uniquely difficult and consistent, reinforcing perceptions of stability and specificity. Our study extends attribution theory to …

Report On A Self-Directed Pilot Study (For Researchers), Yoshihiko Ariizumi Jan 2026

Report On A Self-Directed Pilot Study (For Researchers), Yoshihiko Ariizumi

Spiritual Proficiency

Strategic Self-Regulation for Spiritual and Cognitive Enhancement

This pilot study investigates the impact of structured spiritual interventions on cognitive processing and emotional regulation. By integrating meta-cognitive tools—such as narrative accountability, systematic scripture application, and "mental toggles" via hymns—the research demonstrates a significant acceleration in learning efficiency and a reduction in emotional recovery time. The findings suggest that spiritual experiences are not merely random occurrences but "probability-controllable phenomena" that can be systematically cultivated through intentional environmental settings and habitual reflection.
