Light And Dark, Quinn Marshall
Light And Dark, Quinn Marshall
The Agora
Some of my recent poems. They are melancholy, and many play on ideas about what is light and darkness and how they manifest themselves. Most of these poems are written based on my thoughts about some of life’s challenges and how they make me feel. “The days” is an example of this. Others, particularly “Lights” and “Dark”, are more idealogical in nature and I use them to explore what I think are prevailing cultural assumptions.

Does Culture Translate? A Case Study On Artificial Intelligencegenerated Text Concerning Japanese-Style Employment, Kanji Kitamura
Does Culture Translate? A Case Study On Artificial Intelligencegenerated Text Concerning Japanese-Style Employment, Kanji Kitamura
Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Faculty Publications
Translation matters to international business when it has a discernible impact on firm performance or critical business processes. Current developments include machine translation, which is evolving in tandem with generative artificial intelligence (AI). On one hand, useful translation apps have become available to help the public communicate internationally. On the other hand, recent research concludes that even machine translation's best output still requires post-editing by a human. This argument implies that a machine-translated, grammatically accurate text may not always make sense to a human audience, possibly because of a semantic-pragmatic issue beyond the lexical level. This paper regards it as …

Through a qualitative thematic analysis utilizing a literature review of fifty sources that explore education, linguistics, and psychology, the research identifies intersections between bilingual education, culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP), and literacy development in at-risk youth populations. Six themes were revealed by the analysis. From these themes, the results conclude that African American students experience greater academic success when classroom instruction integrates their cultural identities, …
Mister President & May It Please The Executive: Causal Barriers To Court-Packing, Mason Smith
Mister President & May It Please The Executive: Causal Barriers To Court-Packing, Mason Smith
Seaver College Research And Scholarly Achievement Symposium
As attacks on democracy have become increasingly ubiquitous, scholarship has begun to shed light on a common, effective, and inimical means of subverting governments accountable to the masses: court-packing. So, how can democracies prevent court-packing? Among many implicit causal theories taken from the extant research, which hasn’t directly tackled this problem, two seem the most plausible and ripe for analysis, suggesting that court-packing’s success turns on either the strength (i) of institutional constraints or (ii) of domestic judicial norms. To see which theory works better in practice, I use a narrowly tailored iteration of comparative process tracing, as it best …

Drawing on emerging research in special education, biliteracy, translanguaging, and AI-supported instruction, the session situates AI within a human-centered, justice-oriented framework rather than as a replacement for teacher expertise. The ideas shared are grounded in scholarship on translanguaging, Universal Design for Learning, and linguistic justice, providing a research-informed foundation for practice. Using the Translanguaging Universal Design for Learning (TrUDL) framework, the session will explore how AI tools can be used intentionally to …
Assessing Chatgpt As A Health Information Tool: Clinical Accuracy And Readability Of Responses To Stroke-Related Questions Queried In Spanish And English, Joanna Logue
Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Doctorate - Doctoral Capstone Symposium
Objective
Latino populations have some of the highest rates of stroke (Simonetto et al., 2023) yet are utilizing in-person healthcare less frequently due to heightened fears and existing barriers to access (Vargas et al., 2019) (Silberberg, M., et al., 2018). Therefore, Latino stroke survivors may be turning to AI for stroke-related healthcare advice. However, current AI chatbots are primarily trained on English-language data (Park, 2024), which may introduce language bias when queried in other languages. The purpose of this project was to evaluate whether ChatGPT can serve as a reliable health information tool for Spanish-speaking individuals by comparing the accuracy …

Security Risks Of Ai-Generated Code In Software Development, Maame Agyekum
Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase
Artificial Intelligence(AI) has recently forced change globally, public Institutions and as well as national security. Advancement in machine learning, mixed datasets have enabled significantly powerful systems while being capable of operating at a large scale. As innovation and technological advancement increases at rapid pace, issues like a regulation gap where scientific development far exceeds the government’s ability to regulate and establish an effective oversight. As a result, Artificial Intelligence has been controlled by private companies, leading to an industry where speed and profit often outweigh safety and ethical responsibility.
The Core-Modulation Architecture (Cma): A Structural Overview Of Hallucination As Structural Mismatch, Griselda Poe
The Core-Modulation Architecture (Cma): A Structural Overview Of Hallucination As Structural Mismatch, Griselda Poe
Publications and Research
Hallucination is defined not as factual error but as a structural failure of alignment across target, layer, and constraint.
Within the Core-Modulation Architecture (CMA), cognition proceeds through layered processing and requires layer-specific termination conditions. Hallucination arises when Modulation-level termination is registered as completion while Core-level resolution has not occurred, producing structurally ungrounded but locally coherent outputs.
Detection is therefore structural rather than content-based, focusing on layer mismatch and termination failure.
This document presents a minimal structural account of hallucination within the CMA framework.

From Assessment To Action: Evaluating Support Components In Accelerated Induction To Teaching Programs For Enhanced Candidate Satisfaction And Program Improvement, Traci Catto, Kelli Moransais
Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios
The transition from preservice teacher preparation to full-time teaching represents one of the most critical and vulnerable periods in an educator's career, with research consistently demonstrating that nearly half of all teachers leave the profession within their first five years. Alternative certification pathways have emerged nationwide to address persistent teacher shortages, yet the quality and intensity of support embedded within these pathways, rather than the pathway type itself, most strongly predicts teacher retention and effectiveness. The Accelerated Induction to Teaching (AIT) program at an R1 University in Florida places teacher preparation candidates into unfilled teaching positions as teachers of record …

Cripping The Border – Acompañamiento As Access: An Ethnographic Case Study Of Transborder Youth With Disabilities, Marco O. Amaral
Cripping The Border – Acompañamiento As Access: An Ethnographic Case Study Of Transborder Youth With Disabilities, Marco O. Amaral
Dissertations
The U.S.-Mexico border is a historical, geopolitical site of intense militarization where colonial logics of "othering" converge to marginalize disabled transborder youth. While transborder studies have expanded, students with disabilities remain relegated to the "void" and contained by educational systems that prioritize surveillance over access. Grounded in Sepúlveda’s (2011) acompañamiento and Transborder DisCrit, this ethnographic case study examines the lived experiences of both students and their families who cross the border daily to attend school in the U.S. It frames these journeys not as mere commutes, but as acts of defiance within the broader disability rights movement.

Research Practice Partnerships (RPPs) are a key strategy for educational improvement, yet little is known about the interactional mechanisms that drive their success. This study analyzes a three-year RPP co-designing integrated math and computer science lessons. We identify "boundary infrastructure moves”, actions partners use to navigate differences. Our findings reveal that productive tension, often sparked by a "potential overstep," was highly generative. A case study shows how a teacher challenging a lesson's terminology initiated a negotiation that transformed the artifact and created a new, shared vocabulary tool. We argue that productive tension is an essential mechanism for growth in RPPs …

Exploring How Long-Term Residents Influence Environmental Policy Decisions In The Takushara Settlement In Abuja, Nigeria, Agbanusi Uchechukwu Jonathan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Rapid urbanization of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has increasingly marginalized indigenous communities, creating a significant disconnect between top-down environmental governance and how it affects residents. Previous research has found that this land swap displaces indigenous stewards and erodes their traditional ecological knowledge, endangering local livelihoods, food security, and sustainable management of natural resources. The purpose of this narrative qualitative study was to explore how long-term residents perceive and experience their influence in environmental policy decisions through the lens of the social-ecological systems framework and the theory of resilience. This study examined the systematic exclusion of long-term residents of the …

An Equity Analysis Of Battery Electric Vehicles During Evacuation Considering Social And Financial Disadvantage, Divyamitra Mishra
An Equity Analysis Of Battery Electric Vehicles During Evacuation Considering Social And Financial Disadvantage, Divyamitra Mishra
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The increasing share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the transportation system is introducing new challenges to the emergency evacuation planning and management. During Hurricane Milton (2024), incidents involving BEVs, including battery fires, attributed to saltwater exposure risk, and advisories recommending relocation to higher ground, highlighted operational vulnerabilities unique to this technology. These emerging risks are likely to be experienced heterogeneously, as access to charging infrastructure, available resources, and evacuation flexibility varies across the population. This raises critical questions about how BEV-specific constraints interact with existing inequalities during evacuation. Motivated by this context, the dissertation investigated inequity in BEV evacuation …
