Treatment Initiations And Opioid Overdoses Among Recently Incarcerated People After Adoption Of The Take-Home Methadone Policy, Benjamin Barsky, Shapei Yan, Meredith B. Rosenthal
Faculty Scholarship
Opioid overdose is the leading cause of death among recently incarcerated people. Take-home methadone flexibilities adopted at the COVID-19 pandemic’s outset may have facilitated opioid use disorder treatment initiations and prevented opioid overdoses for this population. These flexibilities may have particularly enhanced treatment initiations for rural residents, given relaxed in-person methadone treatment requirements. Leveraging the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Public Health Data Warehouse, we assessed whether the Massachusetts take-home methadone policy was associated with changes in post-release initiations of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) (i.e., methadone, buprenorphine, and extended-release naltrexone) and opioid overdoses among recently released people, including …

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Odontoid fractures are often managed surgically. The most common approaches are anterior dens screw (ADS) and posterior arthrodesis (PA), with the latter being associated with significantly higher fusion rates. PA techniques can include wiring, C1-C2 transarticular (TA) screws, and C1 lateral mass (LM)-C2 pars/pedicle screws. Most comparative studies group multiple PA techniques together when comparing PA versus ADS. Our objective was to systematically review the literature and identify studies that separately provide fusion rates of each different posterior C1-C2 arthrodesis (PA) technique utilized compared to ADS.
METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted according to the Preferred …

Pain is a multidimensional phenomenon, encompassing affective-motivational, cognitive-evaluative, and sensory-discriminative domains. Understanding these components is crucial for effective diagnosis and management, particularly in conditions like fibromyalgia (FM), where pain is of unknown etiology. However, attempts to replicate FM through preclinical models often fail to replicate the disorder’s multidimensionality. These studies evaluated the multidimensionality of two primary preclinical FM models—biogenic amine depletion(reserpine) and subchronic swim stress—across all three pain dimensions, and these models assessed predictive validity using the FDA-approved pharmacologic duloxetine (Cymbalta®). Additionally, the combinations of these models assessed whether their integration better mirrors clinical manifestations. The biogenic amine depletion model …
