Synthesis Of Mixed Metal High Entropy Oxyhalide For Photocatalytic Degradation Of Tetracycline, Chakgrid Noomak Jan 2023

Synthesis Of Mixed Metal High Entropy Oxyhalide For Photocatalytic Degradation Of Tetracycline, Chakgrid Noomak

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

High entropy materials (HEMs) are new types of materials that contain five or more elements. HEMs have been applied in various applications. It has been proven that HEMs with multielement can provide good structural stability. However, the application of HEMs in the field of photocatalytic has rarely been reported. Therefore, it is interesting to construct HEMs to be used as photocatalysts. In this work, we designed and fabricated a mixed metal high entropy halide (SrxBa1-xBiO2Br), a novel photocatalyst that contains five elements in the structure, by incorporating metals (Sr and Ba) into bismuth oxybromide material (BiOBr) to enhance their stability …

As a result of the increased risk of mass school shootings many states have implemented laws to assist in implementing more rigid safety measures within …

Training A Public Accommodations Lens On Vaccine Passports, Paul Diller Jan 2023

Training A Public Accommodations Lens On Vaccine Passports, Paul Diller

Lewis & Clark Law Review

The Covid pandemic and the rise of smartphone technology enabled the use of “vaccine passports”—that is, a requirement to show proof of vaccination against Covid—on a scale unmatched before in human history. In the United States, many public accommodations such as restaurants, coffee shops, stadiums, and movie theaters required patrons to show proof of vaccination in order to enter or consume food and drink on the premises. In approximately two dozen local jurisdictions as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, government mandated that public accommodations do this, with varied carveouts for religious objections and medical or age-based …

Pandemic Communication: International Communication, Anthony Spencer

Other Scholarly Publications

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed our world as we previously knew it. One of those major changes is how we communicate with one another across national borders. The pandemic forced us to find ways to improve the way we utilize social media outlets to communicate with others around the world. Research into global communication has long been too focused on the West, and particularly the United States. This shift in our communication usage also provides a moment of pause to reflect on ways to make the field of international communication more inclusive and focus on key issues which influence transnational …

The Covid-19 Pandemic And Its Influence On The Human Immune System, Nicole L. Riha

Undergraduate Honors Theses

COVID-19 rapidly infected the world, and scientists continue to research how the disease spread and killed as many as it did by analyzing how it affects the human immune system and referring to past pandemics. Since the pandemic is ongoing, scientists do not fully understand how the virus works and if lockdowns were effective. Nevertheless, a discussion on what is known about COVID-19's influence on the human immune system is needed. With an understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists can make more effective treatments for COVID-19 and learn how to manage future pandemics.

Interagency Dynamics In Matters Of Health And Immigration, Medha D. Makhlouf

Faculty Scholarly Works

When Congress delegates authority to an executive agency, it tells us something important about the expertise that Congress wishes to harness in policymaking on an issue. In the legal literature on interagency dynamics and cooperation, issues at the nexus of health and immigration are largely understudied. This Article extends this literature by examining how delegations of authority on issues at the intersection of health and immigration influence policymaking. In an analysis of how administrative law models apply to three topics in the shared regulatory space of the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) and the Department of Homeland Security …

Novel Formulation Strategies For Oral And Ocular Drug Delivery, Samir Senapati

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Nanoformulations such as nanoemulsions (NE), solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN), and nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) are colloidal particulate systems in the submicron size range and act as carriers of drug molecules. Their size varies from 10 to 1,000 nm (1). The capacity of these nanoparticles to permeate through many anatomical barriers, the prolonged release of their contents, and their stability on the nanometer scale have widely contributed to their efficacy in drug delivery. Owing to the advantages of nanoformulations, they were further explored in our studies to target different diseases like Dry eye disease (DED), glaucoma, and malaria.

Chapter 2 discusses …

The Democratic Problems With Washington As The Capital, David Fontana Jan 2023

The Democratic Problems With Washington As The Capital, David Fontana

GW Law Faculty Publications & Other Works

Democracy demands a capital city that represents a country and is not removed from it. If the government is to be of the people and for the people, then the capital must be able to relate to the people—and the people to the capital. In the United States, democracy struggles not just because of what happens outside of and comes to Washington, but because of what happens inside Washington. The federal government, in other words, faces democratic problems because of the type of place that Washington is. There are many factors to consider in deciding where a country should be …

The Prepare Mobile Program For Hiv Prevention In Washington D.C., Gabrielle Cochran Jan 2023

The Prepare Mobile Program For Hiv Prevention In Washington D.C., Gabrielle Cochran

Theses and Dissertations--Public Health (M.P.H. & Dr.P.H.)

Incidence rates of HIV have decreased in the United States in the past decade, but the southern United States has higher rates of HIV than other regions, and cities in the south, like Washington D.C., have some of the highest rates of HIV incidence in the nation. Risky sexual behavior, needle sharing, and substance use increase the risk of transmitting or acquiring HIV, and these behaviors are more common among unhoused people (CDC, 2021; CPPH, 2022).

Expansion of community resources in cities with high levels of HIV have allowed for many people at high risk for HIV to comply with …

Pfas Clinical Guidance, John Bingham Jan 2023

Pfas Clinical Guidance, John Bingham

Theses and Dissertations--Public Health (M.P.H. & Dr.P.H.)

Introduction

A broad category of synthetic organic compounds, per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), forms the impetus for this project. Known compounds in this category are numerous and diverse, with over 4700 identified molecular entities (Panieri, Baralic, Djukic-Cosic, Buha Djordjevic, & Saso, 2022). Their only commonality is the presence of at least one carbon atom that is saturated with fluoride groups. These chemical bonds are exceptionally difficult to break (Tansel, 2022), which incepts both the utility of PFAS compounds and the concerns they raise for human health (Cousins et al., 2020). While PFAS are …

Mental Health Professionals’ Perception Of Medications For Opioid Use Disorder, Patrick M. Mullen

PCOM Psychology Dissertations

Despite the widespread attention and resources allocated to the current opioid crisis, the public health problem persists. A major target in the efforts to combat the opioid crisis is increased accessibility and utilization of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). A robust body of evidence supports the effectiveness of medications to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) in reducing overdose deaths and improving overall outcomes. Yet, MOUD continues to be underutilized at alarming rates. Studies have discovered that only one-third of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment sites offer any form of MOUD and approximately 30% of individuals with OUD receive any …

Public Health And The Politics Of Haussmannization In Nineteenth-Century Paris, 1830-1870, Mikaela Malsy

CGU Theses & Dissertations

Throughout the Second Empire, Napoléon III and his Prefect of the Seine, Georges Haussmann, engaged in a series of urban reform projects that transformed Paris. These projects, often collectively referred to as Haussmannization, entailed the construction of boulevards, expansion of the sewer system, and clearance of what the state considered insalubrious housing. This term was largely prescribed to worker-class housing and used as a medical justification to target and destroy working-class communities. However, as this paper discusses, the understanding of insalubrity was shaped by hygienists' pathologization of poverty, crime, and working-class militancy in response to the arrival of cholera and …
