Research & Publications
Predicting crop prices is a complex challenge that farmers must navigate each year, but machine learning algorithms can provide valuable insights to support more informed decision making. In recent years, agricultural price prediction models have made significant advances, with architectures achieving varying degrees of success. However, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of these models remains an ongoing challenge. This research explores the use of stacking, an ensemble learning technique, to enhance the performance of base models in predicting corn prices in many regions of the state of South Dakota in the USA. We propose a hybrid architecture that combines Long …

Assessment Method Of Smart Electricity Meter Running State Based On Mft Model, Yuman Xie, Cong Tan, Hongq Iao Huang, Bingxiang Luo, Zhiwei Jia, Chenhao Sun
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
The smart electricity meter,as the terminal device for smart grid marketing, electricity information, and energy distribution, provides strong data support in various aspects such as distribution network operation and maintenance management and customer experience optimization. However, due to the complex and variable operating environment,it is difficult to accurately assess its running state. Therefore, the modified association rules mining (MARM) method is employed, which improves upon two key importance evaluation criteria in the traditional ARM model. This enhancement not only increases the accuracy of state assessment but also improves the ability to identify potential operational risks.Additionally,to reduce uncertainty when dealing with continuous features, the traditional fuzzy inference system (FIS) is enhanced …

Evaluation Of L- And S-Band Polarimetric Data For Monitoring Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Health In Preparation For Nisar, Michael Battaglia, Laura Bourgeau-Chavez
Michigan Tech Publications
Highlights: What are the main findings? Inundation extent mapping demonstrated high accuracy (79–83%) at C-, S- and L-band areas with limitations related to stand structure and frequency, while du-al-frequency SAR was found to have high accuracy (~92%) for wetland type mapping. Misattribution of dominant double-bounce scatter (characteristic of wetlands) to single-bounce scatter occurs at certain vegetation moisture and SAR geometries for C-, S- and L-band areas. What are the implications of the main findings? Multi-frequency polarimetric SAR provides high-accuracy wetland mapping capabilities, regardless of cloud cover. The misattribution of double-bounce to single-bounce scattering results in errors in wetland extent mapping, …

Art Inquiries
Research on women who have worked in the field of photography in Spain is recent and has developed mostly in the 21st century. Still in 2025, we don’t have a book that includes them all. Outside Spain, they are completely unknown.
Here we present, as a case of study, a French woman who doesn’t fit into the rules of her time: Marie-Agnèse-Anastasie Clemandot (Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, 1807 – Paris, 1876). She was a bookseller in Zurich, a ribbon merchant in Paris, a travelling daguerreotypist in France, Spain and Portugal and seller of leather for surgical instruments. She also had a …

Articles
Tianeptine, an atypical antidepressant prescribed in several countries, is not approved for medical use in the United States. Despite this, it is widely available as an unregulated supplement, popularly known as "gas station heroin," contributing to a growing public health crisis characterized by dependence, severe withdrawal, and overdose. We present the case of a 22-year-old male with major depressive disorder who developed severe tianeptine use disorder. He presented with worsening depression and suicidal ideation, with his psychiatric symptoms substantially exacerbated by cycles of intoxication and withdrawal. The patient declined referral to medication-assisted treatment, highlighting ongoing barriers to care. This case …

In this qualitative phenomenological study, the perceived barriers to services among Hispanic immigrant community members in Southern Connecticut were explored. The study was grounded in social disorganization theory and cultural conflict theory to identify the specific obstacles these communities face, understand the underlying causes, and examine the broader societal and criminal justice implications. Data were collected through open-ended anonymous questionnaires with participants from Hispanic immigrant communities. The findings revealed that fear of deportation, language barriers, and limited education about available services and resources were the most perceived barriers. These challenges were found to significantly affect the integration and well-being of …

The present study examined how identity styles and romantic attachment dimensions predict internalizing problems among 456 college students. Results indicated that the diffuse-avoidant identity style was positively associated with depressive symptoms, whereas the normative identity style was negatively related to generalized anxiety. Anxious attachment was positively related to both internalizing problems, and avoidant attachment was related positively only to depressive symptoms. Interaction results revealed that a stronger diffuse-avoidant identity style strengthened the relationship between anxious attachment and depressive symptoms. A stronger informational identity style led to a significant association between the avoidant dimension and both internalizing behaviors. Lastly, for those …

Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers
Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) remains a debilitating disease in premature infants. The chronic pathogenesis of BPD with complex prenatal and postnatal programming challenges attempts at precisely defining or treating disease. While existing BPD definitions categorize disease severity, a lack of consideration of disease heterogeneity and endotypes has contributed to the failure of clinical trials to improve BPD outcomes. Recent studies have used advanced lung imaging techniques, echocardiography, and lung function tests to identify airway, parenchymal, and vascular BPD endotypes. These endotypes carry different prognoses and require endotype-specific treatment strategies to optimize infant outcomes. In this Review, we focus on the pathogenic …
Just Cause Protection Under Manager Discrimination, Joseph Pickens, Aaron Sojourner
Just Cause Protection Under Manager Discrimination, Joseph Pickens, Aaron Sojourner
Upjohn Institute Working Papers
“Just cause” policies aim to discourage the arbitrary firing of employees. Recent efforts at passing such laws in the U.S. have been motivated by deterring discrimination. This paper presents a framework to study the effects of just cause when managers engage in taste-based discrimination. The framework generates predictions on whether just cause will ease achievement and retention of stable employment by exploiting the timing of separations around a probationary period. Since probationary periods are a typical feature of protections, the approach is generalizable. We test predictions using New York City’s 2021 just cause law for fast-food employees. Using a synthetic …
