Image Captioning Through The Lens Of The Gricean Maxims: Generating Meaningful And Relevant Image Descriptions, Annika Lindh
Image Captioning Through The Lens Of The Gricean Maxims: Generating Meaningful And Relevant Image Descriptions, Annika Lindh
Doctoral
Image captioning models enable us to automatically generate natural language image descriptions for previously unseen images. It combines the two fields of computer vision and natural language generation, allowing models to interpret the con tent of an image and communicate that knowledge through natural language text.
Research into image captioning has the potential benefit of reducing the gap in digital information availability between fully sighted individuals and those who are visually impaired. However, automatically generated captions often fail to provide the required level of detail and specificity to achieve this goal. Furthermore, current standard evaluation methods are insufficient at measuring …

Challenges And Opportunities With Providing Genetic Testing And Counseling For Mucopolysaccharidosis Type Ii In Kenya, Lucy Mungai, Charles Njeru, Allan Njoroge, Michuki Maina, Syokau Ilovi, Dalton Wamalwa, Ruth Nduati, Beatrice Odongkara, Danny Miller
Pathology, East Africa
Background Limited or absent genetic counseling and testing resources in low- and medium-income countries lead to missed or late diagnoses for treatable metabolic conditions with irreversible complications. In some communities, misunderstanding about the etiology of a genetic condition may lead women whose children are affected to be viewed as a bad omen and become stigmatized or ostracized from their community. Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II), or Hunter syndrome, is a lysosomal storage disorder in which deficiency or inactivity of the enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase leads to accumulation of glycosaminoglycans throughout the body. The diagnosis can be made through clinical assessment, enzyme activity …

Cecropins are a class of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) expressed by insects that have broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and low cytotoxicity. However, cecropins are also long (40–45 amino acids) peptides, making their adaptation for therapeutic use challenging. Here, we present a series of 16 amino acid-long peptides derived from cecropin B from Drosophila melanogaster. The native truncated peptide is cationic and expected to form an amphipathic α-helix, but does not have antimicrobial activity. The incorporation of two Trp residues, depending on the position in the peptide backbone, results in antibacterial activity compa-rable to that of full-length cecropin B against the gram-negative bacteria …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This paper introduces an innovative control chart customized for the gamma distribution, specifically crafted to handle uncertain conditions through repetitive sampling. The control chart's coefficients, along with the probabilities of remaining in control or detecting a shift, and the average run lengths, were derived by assuming the symmetrical behavior typical of the normal distribution, using the neutrosophic interval method. The performance of this chart was evaluated by assessing average run lengths under various uncertain process conditions. The chart's efficacy in identifying both minor and major process shifts was investigated. This study also provides a comparison between the newly proposed chart …

Inventory Control Of Single Perishable Item In Neutrosophic Environment: With Stock-Based Demand, Preservation Technology, Shortage And Two-Stage Price Discount For Imperfect Items, Geremew Assefa Gudeta, Natesan Thillaigovindan, Getinet Alemayehu Wole
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In this article, we study an inventory model for a single perishable item which can contribute to economic growth, organizational benefit as well as individual life. Both supplier and retailer consider price discount for defective items up to a specified percentage, in a situation where the parameters involved are vague and imprecise. Such consideration has not been reported in the literature. By recognizing the power of neutrosophic environment to handle uncertainty and impreciseness inherited or existing in the problem, we use single-valued triangular neutrosophic numbers (SVNs) for representing stock-based demand, retail price, order ing cost, holding cost, wastage cost, imperfect …

Neutrosophic Topological Spaces For Lung Cancer Detection In Chest X-Rays: A Novel Approach To Uncertainty Management, A. A. Salama, Doaa E. Mossa, Mahmoud Y. Shams, Huda E. Khalid, Ahmed K. Essa
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Decision-making in medical diagnosis is often hampered by uncertainties due to incomplete, ambiguous, and evolving information. In reviewing the traditional methods for lung cancer detection, we found that crisp and logic values have more difficulties and challenges. These challenges related to the big data analytics, uncertainty values, and the different circumstances that make it harder for prediction. In this work, we propose a novel approach that use a Neutrosophic Topological Spaces (NTS) for the lung cancer detection in the chest X-ray images. Furthermore, the proposed NTS leverage the strengths points of Neutrosophic Sets (NS) which include the degrees of truth …
