The Rationale Behind And Impact Of One Hospital’S Provision Of Secondary School Athletic Training Services: A Five-Year Case Study, Caroline E. Faure Edd; Atc

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Sports-related injuries are common and often require physician or hospital care. Since the advent of concussion laws in fifty states, hospitals across the country have come forward to partner with secondary schools in the provision of sports medicine healthcare. The outreach agreements are consistent: Hospitals hire athletic trainers (ATs) and then outsource them to schools. ATs help mitigate risk in sports programs. Onsite at the schools daily, ATs provide immediate evaluation and treatment for injuries that occur and render decisions regarding the appropriateness of an injured athlete’s return to participation. The goal of this case study was to describe …

Purpose: Research shows the benefits of whey isolate protein powder and casein protein powder supplementation in regard to body composition and resting metabolic rate; however, minimal research exists comparing the effectiveness of whey to casein supplementation. Methods: Eighteen (18) physically trained, healthy individuals (23±3.1 yrs.; 171.7cm; 12 males; 6 females) completed a randomized two condition [Combat 100% Isolate (Whey) versus Combat 100% (Casein)] by two time point [Pre-, Post-] intervention. The intervention consisted of subjects supplementing on either whey or casein in conjunction with resistance training over an 8-week period. Pre and post testing included % body fat …

Comparison Of Survival Rates Between Two Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Protocols And The Association Of Crew Consistency, Stacey L. Parrish, Lori Kupczynski, Pradeep Vanguri

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Background: Cardiac arrest is a life-altering event that requires swift, coordinated actions from numerous individuals for patient survival. Although return of spontaneous circulation is the goal of every emergency medical service agency, survival rates continue to be low due to many factors. Many variables are out of direct control of emergency medical service agencies, but some, such as protocol development and personnel training, are well within their power. Purpose: The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to examine the new HP-CPR protocol implemented by a large southeastern urban fire rescue department to see if changes to existing protocol assisted, in …

Allied Health Student Engagement In Telehealth Clinical Placements: A Rapid Review, Kate Bridgman, Shane Erickson, Lisa Furlong, Adam Bird

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: The engagement of allied health students in telehealth consultations whilst on clinical placement has rapidly increased due to the disruption caused by COVID-19. While this is understandable given the circumstances, it has occurred on the largely unfounded assumption that utilising telehealth is pedagogically appropriate to supplement or replace assessed placements. Method: This rapid review used the Cochrane rapid review methodology to synthesise the literature relating to the perspectives of allied health students whilst on clinical placements utilising telehealth. Results: A systematic search and selection process found three studies. In summary, the combined findings of the research suggest that student …

Parent-of-origin effects are unexpectedly common in complex traits, including metabolic and neurological traits. Parent-of-origin effects can be modified by the environment, but the architecture of these gene-by-environmental effects on phenotypes remains to be unraveled. Previously, quantitative trait loci (QTL) showing context-specific parent-of-origin effects on metabolic traits were mapped in the F

The Organisation For Economic Cooperation And Development (2nd Edition) (Introduction), Richard Woodward Mar 2022

The Organisation For Economic Cooperation And Development (2nd Edition) (Introduction), Richard Woodward

Books/Book Chapters

Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2021, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is routinely heralded as one of the leading organs of global governance, yet it remains one of the least written about and least well understood of our major global institutions.

This fully revised and updated second edition builds a well-rounded understanding of this crucial, though often neglected, institution. A range of clearly written chapters chart the origins and evolution of the organization, comprehend its influence, examine its current agenda, and evaluate its future prospects. Rather than the simplified characterizations of the OECD as a “rich-country’s club” …

Financing Low-Carbon Transport Transition In The Philippines: Mapping Financing Sources, Gaps And Directionality Of Innovation, Varsolo Sunio, Jaime Mendejar

Finance and Accounting Faculty Publications

Successfully achieving a low-carbon transition in the transport sector requires an understanding of the lending logics of the financial institutions in order to identify the financing directionality and gaps. However, in the transportation literature, there is a lack of attention on the relationship between financing sources and the direction of innovation. The present study seeks to address this by mapping the flow of finance from financial institutions to transport projects. Our dataset consists of 9 transport projects included in the Philippines’ Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). We consider different types of projects (rail development, bus rapid transit implementation, jeepney modernization) and …

Material World: The Effects Of Meditation Content On Materialistic Values, Azalia White, Katie Young, Hannah Wright, Nicole Walheim, Samantha Urban

[Archive] Belmont University Research Symposium (BURS)

In the twenty-first century, Western cultures are highly materialistic and defined by consumeristic goals to garner as much “stuff” as possible (Berger, 2015). This constant pursuit has demonstrable adverse effects on personal and social well being (Bahl et al., 2016; Wang, et al., 2017), while overconsumption also has devastating impacts on the global environment. Previous studies found a negative relationship between levels of mindfulness and levels of materialism (Nagpaul & Pang, 2015; Watson, 2019), indicating the potential for mindfulness to combat otherwise materialistic behaviors. Furthermore, previous research demonstrated gratitude interventions led to lower scores on materialism (Chaplin, et al., 2018), …
