Mental Health Disorders Among The Adolescent Population In Nigeria: An Integrative Review, Njideka Nkemjika Emenyi
Mental Health Disorders Among The Adolescent Population In Nigeria: An Integrative Review, Njideka Nkemjika Emenyi
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Mental illness is a public health crisis with extensive stigma that has been substantially neglected in Nigeria. The general belief in Nigeria is that mental illness originates from supernatural causes such as possession of evil spirits; hence, individuals with mental illness are left in the hands of “the gods” or traditional healers for help. The prevalence of mental health disorders is high amongst adolescents in Nigeria due to rapid biological, social, and psychological changes that increase their susceptibility to mental health complications. Despite the high prevalence of mental illness among Nigerian adolescents, mental health care access and utilization in this …

The Effects Of Social Support On The Sport Motivation Of Ncaa Division Iii Athletes Through The Lens Of Self-Determination Theory: A Correlational Study, Stephanie Dawn Roby
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this quantitative, non-experimental correlational survey study was to evaluate the relationship between sport motivation and the types of support received from coaches, parents, and peers for NCAA Division III athletes. NCAA Division III athletes (n= 74) who participated in baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women's soccer during the 2021-2022 school year completed a demographic survey, the Sport Motivation Scale-II (SMS-II), and the Athlete Received Support Questionnaire (ARSQ). Scores for the SMS-II and the ARSQ were calculated, and a multiple linear regression was used to analyze the data. Athlete’s scores for the SMS-II averaged …
Predicting Student Pragmatic Social Skills Development By Student Age And Behavior Classification, Christopher Justin Pope
Predicting Student Pragmatic Social Skills Development By Student Age And Behavior Classification, Christopher Justin Pope
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Over the course of a decade, schools have experienced an increase in inappropriate student behaviors and suspensions with a decrease in teacher retention. Students are demonstrating intensive externalizing and internalizing behaviors that are producing a negative effect on their success in the classroom, with low teacher efficacy in knowing how to properly address those behaviors and concerns. Students receiving special education services in behavior tend to experience challenges with more than just behavior but tend to only experience addressing of behavior. Studies have shown that an increased number of students with a behavioral disorder are more likely to have an …

Therapy resistance is imposing a daunting challenge on effective clinical management of breast cancer. Although the development of resistance to drugs is multifaceted, reprogramming of energy metabolism pathways is emerging as a central but heterogenous regulator of this therapeutic challenge. Metabolic heterogeneity in cancer cells is intricately associated with alterations of different signaling networks and activation of DNA damage response pathways. Here we consider how the dynamic metabolic milieu of cancer cells regulates their DNA damage repair ability to ultimately contribute to development of therapy resistance. Diverse epigenetic regulators are crucial in remodeling the metabolic landscape of cancer. This epigenetic-metabolic …

Nurses' Experiences Of The Traditional Clinical Learning Environment For Nursing Students, April Rowe Neal
Nurses' Experiences Of The Traditional Clinical Learning Environment For Nursing Students, April Rowe Neal
Dissertations
Nursing education is unique in its integration of theoretical and experiential learning and yet this integrated approach presents a number of challenges. One nuanced challenge in nursing education is the overlap of the students' clinical learning environment (CLE) with the clinical nurses' work environment. It is believed that the clinical nurse plays an important role in clinical learning, but it is not well understood how the clinical nurse understands and contributes to the CLE. The framework for this study was based on Benner's (1982) Novice to Expert model, transformative learning theory, and the AACN (2005) Healthy Work Environment framework. The …
Rehabilitation Technologies To Abate Infiltration In Sanitary Sewers, Steve Youssef
Rehabilitation Technologies To Abate Infiltration In Sanitary Sewers, Steve Youssef
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In urban coastal environments, sewer infrastructure is plagued by infiltration which seeps into aging and compromised pipes. Infiltration increases pumping costs, reduces treatment efficiency, and may trigger release of partially treated wastewater at water reclamation facilities. To restore pipes and abate infiltration, local utilities rely on structural and non-structural trenchless rehabilitation technologies. These methods are commonly used throughout the United States and the world due to their numerous benefits compared to traditional open-cut construction. However, limited data is available regarding their efficacy in reducing infiltration in sewer systems. In this study, we analysed infiltration in a small urban sewershed in …

Appeal Of Tobacco Quitline Services Among Low-Income Smokers, Lauren M Grimes, Rachel Garg, Olivia Weng, Jennifer M Wolff, Amy Mcqueen, Kelly M Carpenter, Matthew W Kreuter
2020-Current year OA Pubs
INTRODUCTION: State tobacco quitlines are delivering cessation assistance through an increasingly diverse range of channels. However, offerings vary from state to state, many smokers are unaware of what is available, and it is not yet clear how much demand exists for different types of assistance. In particular, the demand for online and digital cessation interventions among low-income smokers, who bear a disproportionate burden of tobacco-related disease, is not well understood.
METHODS: We examined interest in using 13 tobacco quitline services in a racially diverse sample of 1,605 low-income smokers in 9 states who had called a 2-1-1 helpline and participated …

Laparoscopic Vs. Robotic Gastrectomy In Patients With Situs Inversus Totalis: A Systematic Review, Anmol Multani, Simran Parmar, Elijah Dixon
Student Publications
Background: Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare genetic anomaly involving the mirror-image transposition of organs. This transposition can potentially make surgical treatments difficult because of the reversed anatomy and intraoperative confusion. The aim of this systematic review is to compare the perioperative outcomes and safety of robotic and laparoscopic gastrectomy in patients with SIT.
Methods: We included full-text case reports with brief reviews and standalone case studies on SIT patients age ≥21, undergoing laparoscopic or robotic gastrectomy. We excluded case studies focusing on procedures other than laparoscopic and robotic gastrectomy, namely, open gastrectomy, gastric banding, and gastric bypass. English …

Editorial: Clinical Cancer Research In Vulnerable Populations, Laura Tack, Patricia Schofield, Tom Boterberg, Christopher N. Parris, Philip R. Debruyne
School of Nursing and Midwifery
Vulnerable populations in cancer care include a wide array of possible conditions (see Table 1). Their vulnerabilities, whether medical, sociocultural, age- or socioeconomic-related, cause these cancer populations to be excluded from clinical trials. This introduces bias and a Matheus effect as clinical trial results are often not fully representative of the whole target population. This underrepresentation of the majority of cancer patients in clinical trials is a major drawback. The treatment of cancer patients with surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic anticancer drugs has reached an increasingly high level of effectiveness, sometimes shifting a cancer diagnosis towards the possibility of living a …

Developing A Community Chaplaincy Ministry: Through A Need Satisfaction Care Model For A Native Language Church, Shanti Samuel
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Believers in Jesus Christ are mandated to "go" into the world, and caring for people is part of the seeking. God has provided models and processes of His care in the scriptures. A chaplain holds spiritual care functions outside the church's four walls on the field. Unfortunately, many Asian Indian Americans in the booming immigrant population have not received care. Therefore, this action research thesis assumes need-based church training to build a culture-sensitive model of care to provide care. This research project explored the causes and impediments to care through participative sessions with the spiritual care provider volunteers of the …

Many health care centers have reported an association between Staphylococcus aureus isolates bearing efflux pump genes and an elevated MIC/minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) to chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) and other antiseptics. The significance of these organisms is uncertain, given that their MIC/MBC is typically far lower than the CHG concentration in most commercial preparations. We sought to evaluate the relationship between carriage of the efflux pump genes qacA/B and smr in S. aureus and the efficacy of CHG-based antisepsis in a venous catheter disinfection model. S. aureus isolates with and without smr and/or qacA/B were utilized. The CHG MICs were determined. …
