Intelligent Competition Platform And Mode Driven By Cloud-Native Simulation, Long Qin, Hesong Huang, Lujia Yin, Chuan Ai, Qi Zhang, Xinmeng Li
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To solve the problems faced by the adversarial competition mode of agents, including difficult development and deployment, low resource utilization, poor reusability, and difficulty in accessing reinforcement learning algorithms, a new agent simulation training platform was designed. The software components of the competition platform were decoupled based on cloud-native technology; a high-performance simulation engine for the competition environment was proposed; a new method of an embedded reinforcement learning model for an intelligent control terminal was designed, with multiple online and offline policy-based reinforcement learning algorithms set. The experiment demonstrates that the development and deployment of the system is efficient, …

Shame On You! The Socialization Of Self-Conscious Emotions In Early Childhood, Ashton K. Allen
Shame On You! The Socialization Of Self-Conscious Emotions In Early Childhood, Ashton K. Allen
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined how parents and children discuss self-conscious emotions across early childhood. Self-conscious emotions such as shame, guilt, embarrassment, awe, and pride play a critical role in children's social and emotional development. Although prior research has demonstrated links between parent and child emotion talk about basic emotions such as happiness, anger, disgust, fear, sadness, less is known about how parents and children talk about self-conscious emotions. Participants for the current study were 247 parent-child dyads. The dyads completed a wordless storybook task designed to elicit discussion of five self-conscious emotions (shame, guilt, embarrassment, awe, and pride) annually across three …
Analysis For Predicting Surface Temperature And Combustion Of Heavy-Duty, Pre-Chamber-Enabled, Hydrogen Engines, Tony Spezia
Analysis For Predicting Surface Temperature And Combustion Of Heavy-Duty, Pre-Chamber-Enabled, Hydrogen Engines, Tony Spezia
Master's Theses (2009 -)
Hydrogen as an alternative fuel shows great promise to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heavy duty engines. However, the challenge for hydrogen engines is that hydrogen has very different combustion properties compared to conventional hydrocarbon fuels. Hydrogen has very high flame speeds, very low ignition energy, and very wide flammability limit. These properties result in hydrogen engines being prone to abnormal combustion. Abnormal combustion makes hydrogen engines difficult to control or can cause catastrophic damage to the engine, so it is important to avoid conditions where abnormal combustion occurs. Hot spots along the combustion chamber walls are often the …
Impact Of Provider Self-Efficacy On Caring For Patients With Prediabetes, David R. Knight
Impact Of Provider Self-Efficacy On Caring For Patients With Prediabetes, David R. Knight
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Prediabetes affects millions of adults in the United States, yet inconsistent provider knowledge and confidence limit evidence-based screening and management in primary care, a gap well-documented in the literature. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate whether a structured educational intervention improved provider self-efficacy related to prediabetes identification and management. Guided by Social Cognitive Theory and the Transtheoretical Model, with implementation guided by the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle, this project asked: among family practice providers, how does prediabetes education affect provider self-efficacy over four weeks? A quasi-experimental pre/post design was used. Four asynchronous educational modules focused on evidence-based screening, …

Albumin Use In Cardiopulmonary Bypass Pump Prime And Its Association With Postoperative Renal Function And Acute Kidney Injury: A Scoping Review, Hannah Talbot
Student Works
ABSTRACT
1.Structured summary:
Background: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with significant hemodilution, inflammatory activation, and alterations in renal perfusion, all of which may contribute to postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). Albumin is frequently used as a component of CPB pump prime due to its oncotic properties and potential to mitigate fluid shifts and support intravascular volume. However, the extent to which albumin-containing priming solutions influence postoperative renal outcomes remains unclear.
Objective: This scoping review aimed to map the available literature examining the use of albumin in CPB pump prime and its reported effects on renal function and the incidence …

Too Small To See: Microplastics, Nanoplastics, And Their Growing Reach, Andrew Rowan Dphil, Kathleen Rowan
Too Small To See: Microplastics, Nanoplastics, And Their Growing Reach, Andrew Rowan Dphil, Kathleen Rowan
WellBeing News
Microplastics and nanoplastics are increasingly recognized as pervasive environmental contaminants formed through the breakdown of larger plastic materials or produced at microscopic scales. These particles are now widely distributed across air, water, and soil, entering food systems and living organisms, including humans and animals. Their small size allows them to travel easily through ecosystems and potentially cross biological barriers, raising concerns about accumulation and long-term exposure. While scientific understanding of their full impacts is still developing, the article emphasizes their growing reach and the potential risks they pose to environmental integrity and health. This emerging issue highlights the need for …
Bird Declines As Indicators Of Environmental Well-Being, Andrew Rowan Dphil
Bird Declines As Indicators Of Environmental Well-Being, Andrew Rowan Dphil
WellBeing News
Bird population declines serve as critical indicators of environmental well-being, reflecting the cumulative impacts of human activities such as habitat destruction, agricultural expansion, pollution, and climate change. Because birds play essential ecological roles—including pollination, seed dispersal, pest control, and nutrient cycling—their loss signals not only biodiversity decline but also the weakening of ecosystem functions that support human societies. Global evidence shows that land-use changes are reducing the diversity of bird species and the redundancy of ecological roles, making ecosystems more vulnerable to disturbance and less resilient overall. As bird populations continue to fall worldwide, they provide an urgent warning that …

Wearable and bedside sensors continuously generate electrocardiograms (ECG), photoplethysmograms (PPG), and related physiological waveforms that could enable earlier detection of deterioration and more personalized care. However, current deep learning pipelines in biomedical signal processing often remain taskand device-specific, degrade under domain shift (new hospitals, sensors, skin tones, motion), and provide limited uncertainty information for safety-critical decisions. We propose PhysioBridge, a foundation-model approach that learns a shared representation space for ECG and PPG via self-supervised pretraining and explicit physiology constraints, then supports downstream adaptation with distribution-free risk control. PhysioBridge introduces (i) multi-rate patch tokenization that preserves clinically meaningful morphology across heterogeneous …
Supporting First-Generation Students By Bridging The Social Capital Gap, Bailey A. Pudlowski
Supporting First-Generation Students By Bridging The Social Capital Gap, Bailey A. Pudlowski
Masters Projects
First-generation students are an increasing presence on college campuses. First-generation students are coming to school, with a gap in social capital in comparison to their continuing- generation peers. First-generation students need support and resources to counteract this capital gap. Using self-determination theory (1985) and Astin’s theory of involvement (1984) as drivers to gauge best practices to support first year students. Using those theories, as well as taking first- generation student demographics into account, I created a workshop that has a goal of bridging the social capital gap between first-generation students and their peers. This workshop focuses on having students reflect …
