Individual Ability On High-Stakes Test: Choosing Cumulative Score Or Rasch For Scoring Model, Muhammad Dhiyaul Khair, Sukaesi Marianti
Jurnal Penelitian dan Evaluasi Pendidikan
In a test, a method is required to estimate an individual's ability based on their responses. Typically, this is done by summing the correct responses or calculating a cumulative score. An alternative method is the Rasch model. This study aims to determine whether an individual's position, based on cumulative score estimates, remains unchanged or changes when compared with ability estimates using Rasch on dichotomous responses. The study uses open-source data from the 2018 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and involves 317 Indonesian students. Ability analysis will be conducted on Math …

The performance teachers in the preliminary study still use teacher-centred methods, both teachers who have received certification and those who have not. On the other hand, the evaluation in schools is still on teacher performance related to learning design and the learning process in the class. Therefore, social, personality and professional competencies are still less reviewed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate teachers' performance based on their gender and work experience in public senior high schools in Maluku Barat Daya (MBD) district. Four main components were used to assess teacher performance: lesson planning and preparation, class management, lesson …

Integrity, Flexibility, And Balance: How Change Works In Psychotherapy, David Pincus
Integrity, Flexibility, And Balance: How Change Works In Psychotherapy, David Pincus
Psychology Faculty Books and Book Chapters
Psychotherapy may be the most tested form of health intervention and also one of the most mysterious. Clinical trials, and meta-analyses of these trials, have repeatedly demonstrated the effectiveness of psychotherapy, while also failing to uncover any clear-cut and consistent understanding of how psychotherapy works. This lack of understanding has driven the field to develop 500 supposedly distinct, yet equivalently effective “theories.” The field suffers from barriers to scientific discovery, barriers to therapist training, and barriers to people seeking help for their psychosocial problems. This chapter tackles the mystery of how therapy works by examining the shortcomings of modern medical …

Nonlinear Biopsychosocial Resilience: Self-Organization As The Basis For A Common Framework, Adam W. Kiefer, David Pincus
Psychology Faculty Books and Book Chapters
Recently, calls have been made for a common framework to understand human resilience through the lens of dynamical systems theory. This chapter provides a comprehensive introduction to the concepts and tools necessary for such an approach. It builds on an existing theoretical framework of biopsychosocial resilience grounded in self-organization theory. This theoretical framework is applied to the formalization of four types of resilience – robustness, resilience, antifragility and grit. Next, important features of stability, structural integrity, and flexibility are discussed as empirically measurable characteristics of a systems-based approach to resilience, which provide a foundation for further applications, including metastability and, …

Nevada Supreme Court Summaries
NRS 41A dictates Nevada’s statutory scheme for professional negligence, or “medical malpractice” claims. Over the past decade, the Nevada Supreme Court’s professional negligence jurisprudence has maintained a generally textualist approach to NRS 41A’s mechanical workings. That changed four years ago with the Court’s decision in Estate of Curtis v. S. Las Vegas Medical Investors, LLC, 136 Nev. 350, 466 P.3d 1263 (2020) and the creation of a “common knowledge” exception negating the need for medical affidavits under NRS 41A.071. Absent common knowledge, or the statute’s other exceptions found in NRS 41A.100, a professional negligence complaint must be paired with …

Horticulture Research Articles
Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is a globally significant economic pest for which lure based trapping can be used to monitor established populations and for surveillance. Either female- or male-targeted traps can be used; however, recommendations on which to apply are inconsistent and many programs rely on male-targeted traps. Here, we compare the performance of male-targeted traps (Lynfield Trap with Trimedlure) and female-targeted traps (Biotrap Globe trap with the 3-component lure—TMA Plus) in apple orchards in south-west Western Australia over 2 years (September 2019 to September 2021). Male-targeted traps caught more Medflies overall than female-targeted traps, …
