Shared Leadership And Its Influence On Millennials' Performance In A Work Group, Beverlyn Denise Trimble Jul 2024

Shared Leadership And Its Influence On Millennials' Performance In A Work Group, Beverlyn Denise Trimble

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Millennials have been constructed in the popular imagination as self-centered, bratty, and difficult to manage. Finding ways to relate to this generation has taken on more urgency now that it is the largest in the workforce. Company leaders realize as well that they can no longer rely on traditional forms of leadership amid the proliferation of complex adaptive systems and digital technologies; one leader does not possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to handle the complexities faced by contemporary organizations. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the behaviors and experiences of millennials who work in a shared …

Effective Strategies For Building Traditional Church Membership, Carlos Blake Jul 2024

Effective Strategies For Building Traditional Church Membership, Carlos Blake

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A dwindling number of congregational members poses a significant risk to the continuity of U.S. churches. Leaders in traditional congregations need effective tactics for membership expansion. Drawing upon Bolman and Deal’s four-frame theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore effective strategies leaders of traditional churches use to build membership. The participants were six leaders from traditional churches situated in the Southern and Eastern parts of the United States. Data were collected by conducting semistructured interviews and archival documents. Thematic analysis of the data revealed four prominent themes: influential leadership, community involvement, use of technology and social …

Ion-Mediated Structural Discontinuities In Phospholipid Vesicles, Judith U. De Mel, Stefanie Klisch, Sudipta Gupta, Gerald J. Schneider

Faculty Publications

Despite intense research, methods for controlling soft matter’s spontaneous self-assembly into well-defined layers remain a significant challenge. We observed ion-induced structural discontinuities of phospholipid vesicles that can be exploited for controlled self-assembly of soft materials, using DOPC and NaCl as a model system. The observations were made for the 0.25 wt % lipid concentration. We used dynamic light scattering, zeta-potential measurement, cryo-electron microscopy, small-angle X-ray, and small-angle neutron scattering to understand the reason for the discontinuities. For salt concentrations below 8 mM, we observed a decrease in the liposome diameter with increased NaCl concentration. Above 8 mM, we measured a …

The qualitative approach used in this research is the social constructivism framework, often described as interpretivism. The results indicate that fishermen and boat owners have differing views on profit and sustainability concerning Blue Accounting implementation in Palabuhanratu’s fishing industry. The …

Democracy's Ruling Hand, Steven L. Winter Walter S. Gibbs Distinguished Professor Of Constitutional Law Jul 2024

Democracy's Ruling Hand, Steven L. Winter Walter S. Gibbs Distinguished Professor Of Constitutional Law

Law Faculty Research Publications

The claim of liberal constitutionalism is that a text-like object or a ‘diplomatically abstract’ set of principles can work a deflection of disagreements within a pluralist polity. But this project assumes both that pluralism remains amenable to reason and that reason is a capacity independent of the profound differences of meaning, value, and forms of life that shape those disagreements. Neither assumption is correct. Differences in norms, values, and forms of life inevitably undergird and structure differences in meaning, perception, and interpretation. Consequently, a constitution (even when written and accompanied by judicial review) will necessarily unfold in an ongoing process …

A Scalable Parallel Processing Design For The Data Washing Machine: An Unsupervised Entity Resolution System, Nicholas Kofi Akortia Hagan Jul 2024

A Scalable Parallel Processing Design For The Data Washing Machine: An Unsupervised Entity Resolution System, Nicholas Kofi Akortia Hagan

Theses and Dissertations

Entity Resolution (ER) has been one of the bedrocks in the creation of information systems by ensuring ambiguous entities are identified and resolved by linking. One common design approach of traditional ER systems is to run in single-threaded mode, which makes the system prone to out-of-memory error when processing larger datasets. The Data Washing Machine (DWM) as a proof-of-concept of an unsupervised cluster ER system is indifferent from this common design bottleneck. The original prototype design of the DWM requires shared memory tables and dictionaries of tokens, and its single-threaded nature makes it not scalable, hence not viable for real-world …

Addressing The Importance Of Counseling For Adolescents Experiencing Homelessness Participating In Homeless Assistance Programs, Justin Corey Singleton Jul 2024

Addressing The Importance Of Counseling For Adolescents Experiencing Homelessness Participating In Homeless Assistance Programs, Justin Corey Singleton

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The number of youths experiencing homelessness has increased significantly over the years. The mental health of youth experiencing homelessness is of great concern due to the high disparity rates of depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders in comparison to their peers that have a home. A positive support factor can help youth by interceding during a time of need. Identifying that support can be challenging for youth as their cognitive functioning is often deregulated due to untreated mental illnesses. Concepts from the Ecobiodevelopmental Theory address the importance of counseling services assisting youth with establishing healthy and supportive outcomes by identifying …

INTRODUCTION: Age is often used as a predictor in determining outcomes in large vessel occlusions treated with mechanical thrombectomy. However, limited data exist for octo/nonagenarian outcomes compared to younger individuals in acute basilar artery occlusions treated with thrombectomy.

METHODS: Patient data were obtained from the PC-SEARCH Thrombectomy Registry which consists of 444 acute basilar artery occlusions treated with mechanical thrombectomy. Individuals were dichotomized based on age (>80 and ≤80 years old). Primary outcome was defined as modified Rankin Scale of 0-3 at 90 days. Logistic and multivariate regression, as well as control-matched analysis, were performed.

RESULTS: There were 373 …

Barriers To Implementation Of Practice Guidelines In Heart Failure, Mary Geisenhof Jul 2024

Barriers To Implementation Of Practice Guidelines In Heart Failure, Mary Geisenhof

DNP Projects

In 2022, the most recent guidelines for care of the patient with heart failure (HF) were released by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), and the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). In summary, this group did not recommend fluid restriction for patients with heart failure, unless they are in the end stages of heart failure, and only if fluid restriction may be beneficial (Heidenreich et al., 2022). Despite this recommendation, some providers and nurses continue to restrict fluids. The aim of this DNP project, therefore, was to analyze barriers to implementation of best practices …

The Role Of Biological Plasticity In Model-Based Translational Research, Jessica A. Bolker Jul 2024

The Role Of Biological Plasticity In Model-Based Translational Research, Jessica A. Bolker

Faculty Publications

Reports of low replicability and translatability of biomedical research have called the value of animal models into question. The problems are real, but abandoning animal research is not the solution. Rather, improving the translatability of model-based research requires attention to relevant differences between humans and models, and to attributes of the models themselves that are essential to both robust science and effective translation. One is biological plasticity, the responsiveness of individual organisms to complex and variable environments. Though under-represented in model systems (for both historical and practical reasons), plasticity is central to human biology. While there are good reasons to …
