Applying The Conditions Required For The Complementary Role Of The International Criminal Court On The Case Of Sudan, Almoatuz A. Mansoor

Sultan Qaboos University Legal Studies Journal

This paper delves into the necessary conditions for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to serve a complementary role in cases where a state is unable or unwilling to prosecute. It assesses the criteria for determining the applicability of these cases to the situation in Sudan before the International Criminal Court. The paper examines the evolution of international criminal law and its connection to individuals under public international law. It also evaluates the issue of inability by analysing Sudan's legal system in terms of legislative competence, the professional competence of legal professionals, and the impartiality of the judiciary. In addition, the …

Understanding The Drivers Of Industry 4.0 Technologies To Enhance Supply Chain Sustainability: Insights From The Agri-Food Industry, Guoqing Zhao, Xiaoning Chen, Paul Jones, Shaofeng Liu, Carmen Lopez, Leonardo Leoni, Denis Dennehy Sep 2024

Understanding The Drivers Of Industry 4.0 Technologies To Enhance Supply Chain Sustainability: Insights From The Agri-Food Industry, Guoqing Zhao, Xiaoning Chen, Paul Jones, Shaofeng Liu, Carmen Lopez, Leonardo Leoni, Denis Dennehy

Plymouth Business School

The sustainability of agri-food supply chains (AFSCs) is severely threatened by regional and global events (e.g., conflicts, natural and human-made disasters, climate crises). In response, the AFSC industry is seeking digital solutions using Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies to enhance resilience and efficiency. However, why I4.0 adoption remains stubbornly low in the agri-food industry remains poorly understood. To address this gap, this study draws on middle-range theory (MRT) and uses thematic analysis, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process, total interpretive structural modelling, and fuzzy cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification to produce insights from nine case studies in China that have invested …

Graduate School of Social Work: Faculty Scholarship

Environmental justice is essential for improved quality of life and sustainable wellbeing. This study examines how environmental issues and related injustices are surfacing in U.S. social work practice and social work readiness to respond, and what resources social workers are most interested in. Data are from an online survey of U.S. social workers (N = 337) in Colorado, Ohio, and Tennessee. Participants answered questions about their social work background, current job, environmental issues in practice, resources, and demographics. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. For nine issues, at least 30% of participants reported these as surfacing sometimes or often, with …

Changes in land use and land cover (LULC) are critical for evaluating global spatiotemporal trends, especially regarding climate change and urbanization. This study investigates the dynamics of Landsat surface temperature (LST) in response to LULC changes and their effects on the seasonal microclimate in Kasur District, Pakistan. Using the Google Earth Engine platform, we employed a random forest algorithm to detect LULC changes (cropland, forest, built-up, fallow, barren, and water) and analyze seasonal spectral indices from Landsat imagery for 1988, 2002, and 2022. Significant LULC changes were observed, including a 9.8% increase in built-up areas, a 4.2% decrease in cropland, …

Automation & Ai In Southern Nevada: A High Stake Game For Hospitality Workers, An Pham

Student Research

After a year filled with excitement around artificial intelligence, it’s easy to overlook that both AI and automation have already been present in various capacities. Thankfully, fanfare in AI and automation has come at a critical time as it shifts the focus from questioning whether machines will replace human workers to understanding when that will happen. In my paper, titled “Automation & AI in Southern Nevada: A High-Stakes Game for Hospitality Workers,” I aim to highlight both the disruptive consequences of automation and AI on the hospitality workforce in Southern Nevada and the importance of addressing these issues without delay. …

Student Scholarship

Objective: Otolaryngologists play an increasing role in managing cough, but little data exists examining the demographics of this patient population and the referral patterns that influence their access to care. This study sought to elucidate these factors using a longitudinal, nationwide database to minimize sampling bias and identify trends representative of the national population. Study Design: Nationally representative survey. Setting: National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS). Methods: Visits with a diagnosis and chief complaint of cough between 2005 and 2019 in NAMCS were examined. Univariable and multivariable analyses were performed to compare patient demographics between visits to surgical specialists, medical …

Experiences Of Incivility And Ageism In Currently Enrolled Rn To Bs Nursing Students And Their Intent To Quit, Kimberly A. Balko

Dissertations

Student registered nurses face barriers to successful completion of a bachelor's of science degree program when faced with memories of incivility within their basic nursing program and their current experiences of incivility and ageism in the classroom, as well as in the workplace. This incivility, along with generational differences, adds to the growing concerns of nurses' intent to quit their employers or the profession, which adds to the current and future nursing shortage. The incorporation of multigenerational education for nurses could enhance generational awareness including ageism, communication skills, conflict resolution, coaching, and mentoring to guide employed RNs and nursing students …

BACKGROUND: This study uses a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test the health benefits of expressive writing that is culturally adapted for Chinese immigrant breast cancer survivors (BCSs) and to characterize how acculturation moderates the effects of expressive writing interventions.

METHODS: We will recruit Chinese immigrant BCSs (N = 240) diagnosed with stage 0-III breast cancer and within 5 years of completion of primary treatment. Recruitment will occur primarily through community-based organizations and cancer registries. Participants will be randomly assigned either to a control condition to write about neutral topics or to one of two intervention conditions, self-regulation or self-cultivation, …

A Narrative Study Of Intersectionality And The Lived Experiences Of Black Woman Superintendents, Nadia Bennett Sep 2024

A Narrative Study Of Intersectionality And The Lived Experiences Of Black Woman Superintendents, Nadia Bennett

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

According to The American Superintendent 2020 Decennial Study, only 1.4% of respondents who hold the superintendent position identify as Black women (Tienken & Domenech, 2021). This percentage has remained under 2.2% for 20 years, though the percentage of white women and non-Black women of color has increased. Current research indicates that Black women have historically been exploited and undervalued at work, with exploitation extending as far back as American slavery, and being undervalued stemming from manufactured stereotypes of Black women for the purpose of sustaining white supremacy. Present-day research indicates that Black woman superintendents perceive their path and role as …

Background: In-home palivizumab administration programs (PH) have shown promise in reducing RSV-associated infections. These programs may be particularly beneficial for children with medical complexity (CMC) by limiting their exposure to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) from non-RSV-related pathogens during transportation and visits to medical facilities.

Methods: In this prospective study, 41 children with CMC less than 2 years of age were randomized by their health insurance to receive PH or in the clinic (PC) during the RSV season (October 2018-April 2019). Patients were stratified by home ventilation. The primary outcome was the total number of face-to-face encounters. Secondary outcomes were unscheduled clinic …

An Exploration Of The Influence Of Nursing Education Culture On The Integration Of Nursing Informatics Competencies Into A Collaborative Nursing Program Curriculum, Stephanie Atthill Sep 2024

An Exploration Of The Influence Of Nursing Education Culture On The Integration Of Nursing Informatics Competencies Into A Collaborative Nursing Program Curriculum, Stephanie Atthill

Dissertations

Information communication technologies are becoming a customary part of the way in which nurses provide care. Consequently, it makes good sense to ensure that nursing informatics competencies are integrated into nursing curricula to prepare graduates for practice. However, few schools of nursing within Canada have fully integrated nursing informatics competencies into their curricula. Nursing education culture appears to influence decision-making, and the development of organizational priorities. Nonetheless, there are no known studies examining how nursing education culture impacts nursing informatics curriculum development endeavours. Therefore, this study aimed to address the following research questions: 1) In what ways does a nursing …

Assessment Design And Practices Toward Holistic Learning Of Higher Education Students: Empirical Evidence Via Path Analysis Modelling Approach, Ebenezer Arifa-Yamoah, Esther Adama, Amanda Graf, Kwadwo Adusei-Asante

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

COVID-19 has revolutionised assessment design and practices in higher education; however, there has not been a shift in the overall objective of enhancing that the association between assessments and learning promotes the holistic development of students. In this study, we provide an empirical evaluation of the perceived effects of assessment practices (invigilated examination and alternative assessments) on students’ mental wellbeing, learning processes and academic misconduct. A cross-sectional study design was employed for this study in which a self-reported survey instrument was administered to 380 social science and nursing undergraduate and postgraduate students in a public university in Australia. We explored …
