A recent report on the detection of very-high-energy gamma rays from V4641 Sagittarii (V4641 Sgr) up to ≈0.8 PeV has made it the second confirmed "PeVatron" microquasar. Here we report on the observation of V4641 Sgr with X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM) in 2024 September. Thanks to the large field of view and low background, the CCD imager Xtend successfully detected for the first time X-ray extended emission around V4641 Sgr with a significance of ≳4.5σ and >10σ based on our imaging and spectral analysis, respectively. The spatial extent is estimated to have a radius of 7′ ± 3′ …
Perceptions Of Law Enforcement Spouses Regarding Officer Safety And Danger, Heidi Marie Rose
Perceptions Of Law Enforcement Spouses Regarding Officer Safety And Danger, Heidi Marie Rose
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Policing is a stressful and dangerous occupation that is imperative to a functioning society, and stress should be limited to ensure a healthy mind and body. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of law enforcement spouses regarding officer safety and danger, which was lacking in the research. Law enforcement spouses have a significant impact over the stress levels of their loved ones. The work–life balance and work–family conflict theories were the theoretical framework used to relate to the study and support the research. The generic qualitative design was used with semistructured interviews to gather research data …

Barbados Students’ Perceptions Regarding Pursuing Tertiary Education, Khaleid Holder
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite the government of Barbados’ 2018 resumption of full payment of undergraduate tuition, enrollment at the lone indigenous tertiary education institution has not fully rebounded to prior levels. Understanding potential students’ decision-making processes regarding their intention to pursue tertiary education may help local tertiary education administrators and policymakers enact interventions to maintain and increase enrollment. Guided by the reasoned action approach, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore Barbadian students’ perceptions about influences on their decision-making regarding their pursuit of tertiary education at the only local university in Barbados. Data were collected using one-on-one, semi-structured interviews from …

Individuals with chronic inflammatory and immune disorders are at an increased risk of atherosclerotic events and premature cardiovascular (CV) disease. Despite extensive literature exploring the relationship between "non-traditional" atherosclerotic conditions and CV risk, many aspects remain unresolved, including the underlying mechanisms promoting the "non-traditional CV risk", the development of an innovative and comprehensive CV risk assessment tool, and recommendations for tailored interventions. This review aims to evaluate the available evidence on key "non-traditional" CV risk-enhancer conditions, with a focus on assessing and managing CV risk factors. We conducted a comprehensive review of 412 original articles, narrative and systematic reviews, and …
The Transfiguration Of Jesus In Tertullian’S Marc. Iv, 22,1-6, Emmanuel C. Marfori
The Transfiguration Of Jesus In Tertullian’S Marc. Iv, 22,1-6, Emmanuel C. Marfori
Landas
This paper offers a nuanced patristic reflection on the theological significance of the Transfiguration narrative, particularly as understood by Tertullian in response to the heretical claims of Marcion. The author explains that for Tertullian, the presence of Moses and Elijah beside Jesus is “superfluous” because the heavenly voice itself made clear whom they were to listen to: the Son. By identifying the voice as the Father’s and the one revealed as the Filius, Tertullian affirms the divine identity of Christ. The paper shows how Tertullian interprets the Transfiguration event as a powerful sign of the continuity between the Old and …

This paper plays within the moments felt as subject(ivity) formed within actual events, moments Whitehead describes as actual occasions. Moments pulled away from creative becoming, the Deleuze/Guattari conceptualisation of affect, their immanently relational nonbeing, to attune, or retune, into conformations acceptable to what Moten and Harney speak into as logistical capitalism and its assemblage of the ‘proper way to do things’.It is a thinking within the comprehensibility of logistical capitalism aiming “...to straighten us out, untangle [unravel] us...in the constant measure and regulation of flesh and earth,” conversing with Manning’s concept of the clear – the violent colonial destruction of …

Migrant domestic workers (MDWs) are highly vulnerable to labor abuse. Using a survey and randomized controlled trial conducted in Hong Kong, this study investigates MDWs’ labor experiences and the potential of rights-awareness campaigns in mitigating labor abuse. The campaigns increased public awareness of MDWs’ rights and reduced the social acceptability of MDWs’ mistreatment. To the extent that improving knowledge about MDWs’ rights and decreasing acceptance of mistreatment affects the behaviors of employers and others who may have leverage to help MDWs, rights-awareness campaigns can help reduce labor abuse. However, the campaigns had limited impact on MDWs themselves, who demonstrated high …

Background/Objectives: Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer-related deaths. Most patients are typically diagnosed at advanced stages. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been proven to reduce lung cancer mortality, but screening programs using LDCT are associated with a high number of false positives and unnecessary thoracotomies. It is therefore imperative that a certain diagnosis is refined, especially in cases of solitary pulmonary nodules that are difficult to technically access for an accurate preoperative diagnosis. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) involved in intercellular communication may be an innovative biomarker for diagnosis and therapeutic strategies in lung cancer, regarding their ability to carry …

Chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CART) targeting CD19 through CD28.ζ signaling induce rapid lysis of leukemic blasts, contrasting with persistent tumor control exhibited by 4-1BB.ζ-CART. We reasoned that molecular dynamics at the CART immune synapse (CARIS) could explain differences in their tumor rejection kinetics. We observed that CD28.ζ-CART engaged in brief highly lethal CARIS and mastered serial killing, whereas 4-1BB.ζ-CART formed lengthy CARIS and relied on robust expansion and cooperative killing. We analyzed CARIS membrane lipid rafts (mLRs) and found that, upon tumor engagement, CD28.ζ-CAR molecules rapidly but transiently translocated into mLRs, mobilizing the microtubular organizing center and lytic granules …

Literacy Skills And Practices In Cambodian-American Families: A Portraiture Of Ten Women, Sothy Tep
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
Abstract:This research article describes the literacy skills and practices in ten Cambodian-American (CA) families within their home environment. It also investigates such contextual problems as CA students not being a part of the Asian model minority and the invisibility that some experience at school. Its literature review addresses the evolving concept of family literacy scholarship, specifically diversity scholarship, with a conceptual framework focusing on Dewey’s (1916) ideas linking family literacy ultimately to human empowerment, hope, progress, growth, and meaning within society. A narrative inquiry technique called portraiture is employed to collect the data of its ten participants’ …

(Some responses have been very lightly edited for typos or clarity.)
After the questions and answers, we present overviews of two notable resources, adapted from responses to our Spring 2024 call for information about conference presentations pertinent to graduate librarianship. While we did …
Unbundling Social Security From The Payroll Tax, Henry Ordower
Unbundling Social Security From The Payroll Tax, Henry Ordower
Florida Tax Review
This Article emphasizes that social security funding has contributed significantly to the shift in tax burdens from high income and wealth to low and moderate income and wealth individuals. To preserve social security as a welfare program primarily for older individuals and to ameliorate the distributional inequity of funding social security across income and wealth levels, the Article proposes unbundling of the benefit side of social security from its longstanding payroll tax funding mechanism. The Article recommends substituting a budget allocation from general revenues for current payroll tax revenue. The substitution would be accompanied by revenue replacement through limitations on …
The Passthrough Entity Tax Scandal, Daniel J. Hemel
The Passthrough Entity Tax Scandal, Daniel J. Hemel
Florida Tax Review
Three dozen states have enacted laws since 2018 that are designed to provide passthrough entity owners with an unlimited federal tax deduction for state and local business income taxes. These “passthrough entity tax” regimes respond to the December 2017 federal tax law, which imposed a $10,000 cap on the state and local tax deduction. The new state laws generally allow passthrough entities to opt into paying an entity-level state income tax in exchange for a dollar-for-dollar benefit on their owners’ state personal income tax returns. The optional tax has proven to be immensely popular among passthrough entity owners across the …

The Common Sense Of A Wealth Tax: Thomas Paine And Taxation As Freedom From Aristocracy, Jeremy Bearer-Friend, Vanessa Williamson
The Common Sense Of A Wealth Tax: Thomas Paine And Taxation As Freedom From Aristocracy, Jeremy Bearer-Friend, Vanessa Williamson
Florida Tax Review
Thomas Paine’s writing helped spur the American colonies to independence and ensure that the new nation would be a republic, not a monarchy. In light of the renewed interest in wealth taxes, this article provides a close examination of Thomas Paine’s wealth tax proposal in the second volume of The Rights of Man. Unlike Paine’s proposal to tax inheritances, his 1792 proposal to tax wealth on an annual basis is often overlooked. The article identifies Paine’s various design specifications, provides original estimates of the impact of Paine’s wealth tax proposal within his own time period and as applied to billionaires …

Taking A Stand For Quality: Demonstrating Pqs Effectiveness By Operationalizing Qrm And Km, Kevin O'Donnell, Martin J. Lipa, Anne Greene (Editor)
Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science
While the authors have published widely on the need to unite the twin enablers of ICH Q10 [1], quality risk management (QRM) and knowledge management (KM), how to integrate QRM and KM in practice has proven to be quite challenging. QRM and KM are wide-ranging activities that impact many elements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and their regulators work to apply risk-based approaches to their work and strive to use knowledge in a smart and efficient way, but so far, in the experience of the authors, it has proven difficult to get these things right.

Mosaicos De La Comunidad (Mosaics Of The Community): Community-Engaged Participatory Muraling With Madres Emprendedoras, Jesica S. Fernandez, Laura A. Nichols
Ethnic Studies
In this paper, we describe a collaborative community-based research project that centered on community members’ lived experiences, which led to the identification of key community issues that resulted in a representative art project in the form of a public mural. Eleven mothers who were long-time residents of the community were the drivers of the issue identification and mural creation. The issues identified, and subsequently depicted in the mural, revealed the importance of the environment in neighborhoods, with residents dealing with encampments, illegal dumping, prostitution, eviction, and gentrification. In the mural Mosaicos de la Comunidad (Mosaics of the Community), a group …

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the timely diagnosis and treatment of many cancers, including melanoma, the fifth most common cancer in the U.S. This study aimed to quantify the disruption and recovery of melanoma detection, treatment, survival, and mortality during the pandemic by analyzing data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program from 2000 to 2021. Our epidemiological analysis found that melanoma incidence initially dropped by 14.8% (95% CI: − 17.2 to − 12.4) in 2020 compared to pre-pandemic projections. Although incidence rates substantially recovered by 2021, an estimated 10,274 patients (95% CI: − 12,824 to − 7,724) remained …

Department of Occupational Therapy Posters and Presentations
Background & Purpose
- Upwards of 15% of individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 may develop “Long COVID” with persistent physical, cognitive, and/or mental symptoms potentially amendable to occupational therapy.
- Variability exists in the rehabilitation approach for individuals receiving occupational therapy for this novel condition.
- Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and other evidence-based resources exist to help standardized rehabilitation; however, it is unknown if occupational therapists (OTs) are aware of these resources and applying them in the management of individuals with Long COVID.
- We surveyed OTs in the contiguous United States (U.S.) to explore their awareness and application of Long COVID CPGs along with …
