Executive Summary: Staff Education Project Reducing Burnout Through Mindfulness Education, Shateria Michelle Boone

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Summary This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project focused on addressing burnout for staff nurses working in a psychiatric hospital. Evidence indicated that burnout among nurses, caused by emotional stress and heightened responsibilities, may result in increased medical errors, diminished patient satisfaction, and significant dangers to patient safety and care. The practice-focused question for this project addressed whether a mindfulness-based educational intervention program would increase staff knowledge and decrease burnout among nurses working in a psychiatric hospital. The program incorporated a pretest/posttest format, educational content delivered via a PowerPoint presentation that included an interactive mindfulness meditation training session, and a …

Development Of A Conditional Plasmid For Gene Deletion In Non-Model Fusobacterium Nucleatum Strains, Peng Zhou, Bibek G C, Chenggang Wu Feb 2025

Development Of A Conditional Plasmid For Gene Deletion In Non-Model Fusobacterium Nucleatum Strains, Peng Zhou, Bibek G C, Chenggang Wu

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Fusobacterium nucleatum is an opportunistic pathogen with four subspecies: nucleatum (FNN), vincentii (FNV), polymorphum (FNP), and animalis (FNA), each with distinct disease potentials. Research on fusobacterial pathogenesis has mainly focused on the model strain ATCC 23726 from FNN. However, this narrow focus may overlook significant behaviors of other FNN strains and those from other subspecies, given the genetic and phenotypic diversity within F. nucleatum. While ATCC 23726 is highly transformable, most other Fusobacterium strains exhibit low transformation efficiency, complicating traditional gene deletion methods that rely on non-replicating plasmids. To address this, we developed a conditional plasmid system in which …

Elementary School Educators’ Perceptions Of Social Emotional Learning (Sel) Implementation In The Classroom, Danielle Poirier Feb 2025

Elementary School Educators’ Perceptions Of Social Emotional Learning (Sel) Implementation In The Classroom, Danielle Poirier

JWU Dissertations & Theses

The increased attention to social emotional learning (SEL) and instruction provided to students has prompted districts and states to implement SEL curriculum, pedagogical practices, and strategies to support educators in SEL implementation (Dermody & Dusenbury, 2022; Paolini, 2020). Teachers’ perceptions of SEL have been found to influence their willingness to adopt SEL initiatives (Zolkoski et al., 2022). In this research, Durlak and DuPre’s (2008) model of effective implementation practices was used as a lens to explore and investigate implementation practices when addressing SEL in elementary schools. The purpose of this mixed methods sequential explanatory study was to identify and explore …

To assess the contribution of rare coding germline genetic variants to prostate cancer risk and severity, we perform here a meta-analysis of 37,184 prostate cancer cases and 331,329 male controls from five cohorts with germline whole exome or genome sequencing data, and one cohort with imputed array data. At the gene level, our case-control collapsing analysis confirms associations between rare damaging variants in four genes and increased prostate cancer risk: SAMHD1, BRCA2 and ATM at the study-wide significance level (P <  1×10−8), and CHEK2 at the suggestive threshold (P <  2.6×10−6). Our case-only analysis, reveals that rare damaging variants in AOX1 are associated with more aggressive disease (OR = 2.60 [1.75–3.83], …

Nh Bitterly Divided In Early Days Of Second Trump Term, Republicans Extremely Optimistic On Country's Future 2/19/2025, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

New Hampshire residents are divided about President Donald Trump in the early days of his second term, with higher approval for Trump's handling of the economy than his handling of foreign affairs. Granite Staters are deadlocked over Trump's executive order pausing foreign aid and pausing a ban on TikTok, but oppose eliminating birthright citizenship, withdrawing from the World Health Organization, and renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Granite State Republicans largely support these recent executive orders and are more optimistic about the direction of the country than at any time since 2003.

Sustaining Private Higher Education Institutions’ Quality With Expandability And Inclusivity, Amal Salah Feb 2025

Sustaining Private Higher Education Institutions’ Quality With Expandability And Inclusivity, Amal Salah

Theses and Dissertations

Abstract The private higher education sector in Egypt is rapidly expanding. The Government of Egypt (GOE) supports its growth by providing legislation and incentives with the main objective of offering high-quality higher education to the growing youth bulge. Private universities react to the successive economic crises by raising their fees in order to maintain the quality of education. In the absence of supporting financial schemes for individual students, the surge in fees perpetuates inequity in access to private higher education for the lower socio-economic strata of the Egyptian society. This paper aims to address a gap in research concerning the …

Recent studies have highlighted the crucial role of microglia (MG) and their interactions with the gut microbiome in post-stroke neuroinflammation. The activation of immunoregulatory pathways, including the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) pathway, is influenced by a dynamic balance of ligands derived from both the host and microbiota. This study aimed to investigate the association between stroke-induced dysbiosis and the resultant imbalance in AHR ligand sources (loss of microbiota-derived [indole-based] and increase of host-derived [kynurenine-based]) after stroke. Microbiota-derived AHR ligands decreased in human plasma and remained low for days following an ischemic stroke highlighting the translational significance. Transient-middle-cerebral-artery-occlusion was performed in …

Antiphons Of Iron And Blood: The Inspirations Of Tolkien's Poetry, Patrick J. Lyon Feb 2025

Antiphons Of Iron And Blood: The Inspirations Of Tolkien's Poetry, Patrick J. Lyon

Journal of Tolkien Research

The new book, The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Christina Scull and Wayne Hammond, is a fascinating new look into a trove of previously unpublished Tolkien poetry. One of these new poems, “Ferrum et Sanguis,” includes an interesting series of addenda and subtitles written by Tolkien that give insight into the origins and inspirations for the poem. Furthermore, the interpretation given by the editors in their commentary on the poem misses the specific reference and applies it to a different source. The real source for the poem is very likely found in the Advent Vespers of the …

Flag Fever: Adoption Of New State Flags, Brian Craig Feb 2025

Flag Fever: Adoption Of New State Flags, Brian Craig

The Guardianship Journal

Several states are experiencing flag fever, and it just might be contagious. Minnesota and Utah adopted new state flags that took effect in the first half of 2024. After years of debate, the new Utah state flag officially took effect on March 9, 2024. The Minnesota state flag officially became law on May 11, 2024, replacing a controversial flag that some people called racist and ugly. Other states are also considering new flag designs. Many states still incorporate their “seal on a bedsheet” designs that are difficult to distinguish from other states and lack good attributes for flag design. The …
