Forecasting Cryptocurrency Price Movements With Tweet Volume And Sentiment Analysis, Ahmed Alblooshi
Forecasting Cryptocurrency Price Movements With Tweet Volume And Sentiment Analysis, Ahmed Alblooshi
Theses
Cryptocurrency markets are highly volatile and driven by rapidly shifting public sentiment and attention. Traditional financial models, reliant on historical pricing data, often fall short in capturingthereal-time,sentiment-basedbehaviourofcryptoinvestors. Among social platforms, X(formerly Twitter) stands out as a key influencer in crypto discussions, offering a rich source of public sentiment. The thesis presents a machine learning-powered tool that leverages tweet volume and sentiment to analyse short-term cryptocurrency trends. The primary aim is to design a practical analysis system that detects and interprets social media ”hype” around specific cryptocurrencies. By allowing users to choose a cryptocurrency name from a list, the tool provides …
Does A Star Player’S Jewelry Matter? An Analysis Of Nba Real Team Value, Brandon C. Penticoff
Does A Star Player’S Jewelry Matter? An Analysis Of Nba Real Team Value, Brandon C. Penticoff
Undergraduate Economics Working Paper Series
This study dives into the financial and sport factors that impact team market value and revenue. This study's results confirm that star players significantly enhance team value, with NBA Superstars adding nearly $500 million annually. This study discovered the prominence of a Principal-Agent Problem between star players and NBA front offices over the issue of championship pursuit. The analysis also identifies an optimal style of play for revenue generation, but that could oppose longer-term team value. These findings have critical implications for NBA front offices, owners, and coaching staffs.

Optimizing The Sustainability Of Asphalt Pavements Through Incorporating Crumb Rubber In High-Modulus Asphalt Concrete (Hmac) Mixtures In Louisiana, Heena Dhasmana, Marwa Hassan, Mohamed Abdelmageed
Publications
Asphalt mixtures are traditionally produced using the Superpave mix design method, which emphasizes volumetric properties; however, current research is shifting toward performance-based and sustainable approaches. Within this context, the French High Modulus Asphalt Concrete (HMAC) design focuses on achieving specific performance criteria for workability, stiffness, rutting resistance, and fatigue behavior, employing a hard binder with higher asphalt content and fewer air voids than Superpave mixes. In this study, HMAC mixtures were developed using crumb rubber and locally sourced Louisiana materials. Five HMAC mixes using PG 76-22 and PG 67-22 binders with 10% and 20% crumb rubber were prepared, along with …

The Hecks Angels: A Look At The City Of New York's Electric Motorcycle Community, Mckenzie A. Corey
Capstones
Motorcycles are a common mode of transportation globally, but within the U.S., they tend to imply a certain demeanor—maybe someone who's brash or a risk taker. I mean, it makes sense. You've got to be a bit daring to ride off into the sunset on something that screams when it shifts gears and begs to be revved at a red light. But in New York City electric motorcycle enthusiasts appear to have slapped a fresh coat of paint on the old concept of what it means to live a life on two wheels.

Protein Composition Of The Foam Nest Of Rhacophorus Reinwardtii (Schlegel, 1840) (Anura: Rhacophoridae), With Notes On Breeding Sites Characteristics And Biomedical Applications, Muhammad Asyraf Rijalullah, Nia Kurniawan, Nia Kurnianingsih
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Rhacophorus reinwardtii is endemic to Java Island and is currently experiencing a population decline. Therefore, the sustainability of its offspring is important to prevent species extinction. Foam nest as a biosurfactant structure plays a crucial role as egg protection through major protein components function. However, studies on the functional proteins of rhacophoridae foam nests are limited. Thus, this study aims to uncover the protein-specific components and functions of the R. reinwardtii foam nest. Additionally, the characteristics of breeding sites, including abiotic factors, were also assessed. Total protein concentration of the R. reinwardtii foam nest was determined to be 747.7 μg/mL …

Functionalizing Polyethersulfone Membranes: Using Nmr To Avoid Pitfalls When Using Uv-Induced Polymerization To 'Graft From' Surfaces, Priyanka Suresh, Megan M. Sibley, Amy C. Che, Christine E. Duval
Faculty Scholarship
For nearly 30 years, UV-induced free radical polymerization has been used to modify the surface chemistry of polyethersulfone (PES) membranes, films, and coatings. The initial mechanism for the grafting process was introduced in the 1990s and supported without direct evidence of covalent bond formation. Since then, claims of ‘grafting from’ membranes in the literature rely on similar evidence using a combination of gravimetry, attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy, contact angle goniometry, water sorption, and/or water permeance. While these techniques provide evidence of the presence of a polymer coating, they do not provide direct evidence of covalent bond formation between the …

The vagus nerve, serving as a pivotal link between the brain and vital organs, regulates crucial physiological functions. It plays a central role in maintaining homeostasis within the body and must dynamically adapt to changing conditions such as anesthesia or sleep. While vagal tone, typically estimated indirectly from heart rate variability, has been extensively studied, direct measurement of vagal activity during sleep and anesthesia remains unreported to date. Recent technological advancements have facilitated the recording of vagus nerve activity in freely moving rodents using small, highly flexible carbon nanotube yarns. Consequently, it is now feasible to directly investigate vagal activity …

A Qualitative Study Of The Impact Of Racial Segregation On The Schooling Of One African American Family, Leatre Y. Cooper
Masters Theses (Archived)
This qualitative case study examines the impact of social, economic, and racial biases, that Black students experienced in the United States public school system, focusing on the author's three generational journey. The author's experience highlights the challenges of racialized residential segregation stemming from city-wide redlining practices in New Orleans, which kept Black people geographically isolated from employment opportunities and exposed them to risks to their well-being, crime, and violence (Bloom, 2014; Englund, 2022; Platt, 2019; Seicshnaydre et al.,2018). Despite the tremendous progress made by the Civil Rights Movement and federal and state policies aimed at addressing these inequalities, housing segregation …

Calcium zirconate and magnesium oxide have both been found to have useful dielectric properties at high temperatures. Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) were made with these dielectrics and platinum electrodes. The relationship between the lifespan (mean-time to failure) and applied voltage was determined using Weibull statistics. CaZrO3 capacitors were tested between 550◦C and600◦C while MgO capacitors were tested between 600◦C and 650◦C. The temperature coefficient Ea and the voltage coefficient n of the Prokopowicz Vaskas equation were determined under various test conditions. Activation energiesforcalciumzirconateandmagnesiumoxidewere3.25eVand3.48eV, respectively. Resistance degradation of CaZrO3 and MgO capacitors, tested at 600◦Cand250V, were compared.

Surrogate Trust In The Intensive Care Unit: What Can We Do Better?, Abdul W. Kazi, Phoebe Chun, David Oxman, Erika J. Yoo
Department of Medicine Faculty Papers
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Previous investigation into patients' trust in medical providers is largely limited to the outpatient setting, where increased trust is associated with improved adherence, satisfaction, and self-reported quality of life. Contrastingly, in the intensive care unit (ICU), patients are frequently incapacitated, and it is surrogates that engage with clinicians for decision making. This pilot study aims to measure and compare surrogate trust in the healthcare system and ICU physicians.
METHODS: We measured surrogate trust in both the healthcare system and providers by administering two domain-specific trust-measuring surveys (the Healthcare System Distrust Scale and a modified Trust in Physicians Scale) to …

With age, hematopoietic stem cells can acquire somatic mutations in leukemogenic genes that confer a proliferative advantage in a phenomenon termed CHIP. How these mutations result in increased risk for numerous age-related diseases remains poorly understood. We conduct a multiracial meta-analysis of EWAS of CHIP in the Framingham Heart Study, Jackson Heart Study, Cardiovascular Health Study, and Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities cohorts (N = 8196) to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying CHIP and illuminate how these changes influence cardiovascular disease risk. We functionally validate the EWAS findings using human hematopoietic stem cell models of CHIP. We then use expression quantitative …

Detecting And Analyzing Frequency Events In Power Systems Using Tunable Parameters-Based Algorithms: Development, Optimization, And Analysis, Hussain A. Alghamdi
Dissertations and Theses
This dissertation addresses the challenge of detecting frequency events in diverse power systems by enhancing existing frequency event detection methods through detection process modifications and developing unique tunable parameters. Since system characteristics differ across regions, frequency event detection algorithms must be customized by domain experts for each balancing area using tunable parameters. By optimizing these parameters for specific power system, the algorithms can accurately detect frequency events and can also be used for further analysis to determine trends in frequency events over time, ensuring system stability.
This dissertation focuses on the enhancement and optimization of frequency event detection algorithms. These …

The Chinese American Experience, Katherine Chan Sorensen
The Chinese American Experience, Katherine Chan Sorensen
2025 Symposium
This paper examines and identifies conflicts of second-generation Chinese Americans, focusing on the interplay of cultural values, gender roles, and societal stereotypes. Through an interview with Connor Chan, a 23-year-old Chinese American, the study illuminates the tension between traditional Chinese patriarchy and evolving American norms. Intergenerational conflicts arising from differing acculturation experiences are explored, highlighting the emotional strain of navigating two distinct cultural landscapes.
The research addresses the persistence of traditional gender roles, where male breadwinners are emphasized, contrasting with Americas idea of female empowerment. This dissonance creates internal and external pressures for second-generation individuals. Furthermore, the paper confronts the …
The Influence Of (Post-) Colonial Language Policies On Local Languages In Cameroon: An Acquisition Planning Perspective, Alain Flaubert Takam
The Influence Of (Post-) Colonial Language Policies On Local Languages In Cameroon: An Acquisition Planning Perspective, Alain Flaubert Takam
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper examines language policy and planning in favour of minority languages during the colonial era and immediately after. It is based on the observation that local languages in Cameroon do not seem to have the ethnolinguistic vitality necessary for their long-term survival. The situation of these languages begs the following question: Did the promotion strategies of national languages in colonial Cameroon pave the way for language attrition that is observable today or is it the language policy choice of the political authorities in independent Cameroon that has caused this language issue? This paper, which falls within the general framework …
The Political Economy Of Pension Reforms: An Analysis Of Policy Design And Practice In Ghana, Michael Kpessa-Whyte
The Political Economy Of Pension Reforms: An Analysis Of Policy Design And Practice In Ghana, Michael Kpessa-Whyte
Journal of African Policy Studies
There is a gradual move away in African pension policy from the hitherto predominantly pay-as-you-go social insurance schemes to new social security policies that prioritize private pension. But in African economies where capital market is underdeveloped and private sector is generally fragile, the shift to private pensions has implications for income security of the elderly. This study examines the design and practice of three-tier pension scheme with dual private pillars introduced a little over a decade ago. While discussing the various categories of private pension schemes that operate under the three-tier pension plan, it echoes the view that, the design …

Holding Up A Mirror To Hostile Gender Legislation: The Impact Of Drag Bans On The Theater Industry, Claire B. Epstein
Holding Up A Mirror To Hostile Gender Legislation: The Impact Of Drag Bans On The Theater Industry, Claire B. Epstein
Pace Law Review
States, particularly infringing upon the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. Certain states have sought to introduce “drag ban” laws under the guise of protecting children from viewing obscene content. These laws, in effect, are harmful to people, children especially, and have a chilling effect on expression, leaving critical harm in their wake. Laws such as these cast a wide net of regulation, opening up otherwise innocent citizens to criminal and civil liability. The theater industry is particularly affected by these regulations, even if lawmakers do not acknowledge this potential harm. This article will focus on three laws seeking to regulate …
Law Schools As Anti-Dialogic Spaces, Jennifer M. Cooper
Law Schools As Anti-Dialogic Spaces, Jennifer M. Cooper
Pace Law Review
Talk is learning’s secret weapon. Yet, talk is chronically undervalued as a learning tool. Dialogic talk, a rigorous, student-centered discursive approach, extends classroom dialogue beyond information exchange to stimulate critical thinking. Talk bolsters thought, generates ideas, expands knowledge, and crystalizes concepts to solidify understanding. Talk powers classroom dialogue through questions, discussion, argument, and interthinking, facilitating the exchange of ideas and information leading to deep learning.
Law school classrooms are paradoxically immersed in talk yet simultaneously anti-dialogic spaces. Despite the Socratic method’s reliance on dialogue, talk in law school is teacher-controlled and interrogative, muting student voices through hierarchical power dynamics.

Fulfilling Purpose, Calling, And Commissioning Through Boundary Spanning, Stephanie Sheehan Phd
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Increased efforts to normalize calling within diverse professions have been successful at generating more mainstream acceptance of its premises and purpose, especially in the context of career. Though recognition that calling extends to vocations other than ministers and missionaries bring wider acceptance of the construct, it is often misconstrued as one’s best temporal job fit, rather than a divine purpose through which God intends to accomplish His purposes. From the very acts of creation, God demonstrates that it is only through Him that divine purposes are accomplished. Only God spans the boundary between emptiness and fulness, sinfulness and holiness, humanity …

Biblical Themes In Spanish Instruction, Adrienne J. Royo
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
This paper seeks to answer the question, when teaching Spanish, does one have to be in a certain venue to be able to share God and the Bible? Through exploration of legends, myths, traditions, Spanish proverbs, and names of geographical locations, as well as personal experiences, the question is answered, elucidating the fact that the sharing of God’s Word is not dependent upon the venue, it is centered in a sense of intentionality in seeking opportunities appropriate to the setting and the occasion. In a spiritual and physical sense, Psalm 19:1 (KJV) defines the world around us when David declares: …
The Business Of Business: A Biblical Approach To The Purpose Of The Firm, Abraham Johannes Oberholster
The Business Of Business: A Biblical Approach To The Purpose Of The Firm, Abraham Johannes Oberholster
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The debate on the purpose of the business corporation has been raging for more than a century. Inspired by capitalistic thinking, economists, corporate managers and investors have mostly maintained that the predominant goal for corporations is to maximize shareholder wealth. In contrast, society has argued that the corporation also has a social responsibility as a legal entity and community member.
The legal precedent set in 1919 with Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. is that “a business corporation is organized and carried on primarily for the profit of the stockholders”. The oft quoted argument of Milton Friedman (1970) that the social …

A Relational God And Why Worldview Self-Examination Is A Crucial Component Of Christian Education, David R. Nelsen Ph.D
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Christian education seeks to transform the lives of its students, preparing them to serve both in their present life and in the life to come. At the center of this process are the students and how they currently think, act, and make sense of the world around them i.e., their worldview. Thus, preparing students for service both here and in the hereafter requires that students become aware of and take control of their worldview systematically and deliberately. Ultimately, this facilitates their ability to form a lasting and transformative relationship with God. Here I present a biblical foundation for why students …
