Teaching, Building, Learning: Ai In Nursing Education, Jennifer Vanderlaan, Lisa Nicholas, Necole Leland Oct 2025

Teaching, Building, Learning: Ai In Nursing Education, Jennifer Vanderlaan, Lisa Nicholas, Necole Leland

AI in the Classroom: A Virtual Summit

The session is grounded in two guiding frameworks. The ADDIE instructional design model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) structures how AI can be systematically integrated into teaching practice, from identifying learning needs to evaluating outcomes. The RISEN framework (Role, Input, Steps, Evaluation, Next) provides faculty with a structured method for developing effective AI prompts and maintaining academic rigor. Together, these frameworks highlight how AI can be embedded purposefully rather than opportunistically.

Participants will leave with strategies for incorporating AI into their own courses, including techniques for building equitable group work, creating adaptable case studies, and designing assignments that encourage students …

Reflections Through Ai: Visualizing Learning, Emotion, And Mindset, Diana L. Moss, Anna Schwarz Oct 2025

Reflections Through Ai: Visualizing Learning, Emotion, And Mindset, Diana L. Moss, Anna Schwarz

AI in the Classroom: A Virtual Summit

Attendees will learn about narrative identity, using AI as a reflective tool, and create a reflective artifact using AI. Narrative identities are stories that can help students make sense of their prior learning experiences. Negative experiences in math classrooms can influence students’ perceptions of the subject and sometimes cause negative feelings or anxiety towards learning math. For years, I have used drawing in conjunction with written explanation to observe my students’ thoughts and emotions towards learning mathematics. In my most recent iteration of using this activity in an undergraduate math class, one student described their feelings of learning math to …

Process Over Product: Rethinking Assignments In The Age Of Ai, Jodie Barker, Lyndsay Munro, Sandun Perera, Sarah Cummings, Wenzhen Li

AI in the Classroom: A Virtual Summit

How do we design assignments that invite students to engage deeply with ideas rather than simply complete and submit finished products? Featuring faculty from across the University of Nevada, Reno alongside facilitators from Advancements in Teaching Excellence, this panel explores assignment design across disciplines, focusing on strategies that foreground thinking as a learning process. Panelists from across disciplines will discuss how they are rethinking assignments to emphasize process over product, using an AI-aware approach to build guardrails on the ways in which students use (or do not use) these tools while also designing assignments and activities to engage students in …

Christian Realism And The Sins Of Mass Incarceration, Jeffrey R. Baker Oct 2025

Christian Realism And The Sins Of Mass Incarceration, Jeffrey R. Baker

Georgia Criminal Law Review

This article is a study of Reinhold Niebuhr’s Christian Realism, a progressive school of social ethics rooted in Christian theology, and its critical evaluation of American mass incarceration. Christian Realism seeks justice in society under law, formed by love as its fundamental organizing principle. It acknowledges a world with endemic structural injustices and social immorality, but it finds temperate hope in the human potential for love, redemption, and generosity. Christian Realism reckons that any institution committed to justice must inevitably compromise to achieve incremental progress toward good. But it projects steady, hopeful progress toward justice, even as systems calibrate …

A Lawless Judiciary: The Gilded Age And Today, Michael D. Cicchini Oct 2025

A Lawless Judiciary: The Gilded Age And Today, Michael D. Cicchini

Georgia Criminal Law Review

The American journalist Ambrose Bierce, who wrote in the late 1800s, was a fierce critic of the judiciary. He lampooned judges for their defective reasoning, arbitrary decisions, and ignorance of the law; he criticized their practice of legislating from the bench and even exposed their outright corruption. Bierce’s work was highly entertaining—in a satirical, cynical way. Yet, as law professor J. Gordon Hylton explained, “beneath the humor and the bitterness of his work lay a sophisticated understanding of the shortcomings of the late nineteenth-century bench and bar.”

This Essay examines Bierce’s criticisms of the judiciary and asks this question: After …

Overwhelming Unfairness: Pervasive Intentional Prosecutorial Misconduct, Structural Error, And State V. Arias, Christopher Boorse Oct 2025

Overwhelming Unfairness: Pervasive Intentional Prosecutorial Misconduct, Structural Error, And State V. Arias, Christopher Boorse

Georgia Criminal Law Review

This article argues that in federal constitutional law, pervasive intentional prosecutorial misconduct always requires reversal of a criminal conviction. That is so for three reasons. First, since a trial pervaded by unfairness is an unfair trial, such a conviction violates the Donnelly fundamental-fairness rule. Second, such a due-process violation can never be found harmless under either the Kotteakos or the Chapman harmless-error test, properly interpreted. Third, pervasive intentional misconduct always or usually fits all but one of the Supreme Court’s seven descriptions of structural error. In particular, it always fits all three rationales on the Court’s most recent list.

How Ai Really Works, Dr. Peter Dong Oct 2025

How Ai Really Works, Dr. Peter Dong

Professional Learning Day

This session will discuss, in as simple a way as possible, how generative artificial intelligence works, using simple demonstrations to show the basic principles of large language models. The hope is that this will help dispel the tendency to view AI as some sort of black magic and allow people to consider carefully how it can be useful as a tool—and when it can’t.

Intercultural Communicative Competence In Saudi University Efl (2015-2025): A Scoping Review, Rehan Almegren Oct 2025

Intercultural Communicative Competence In Saudi University Efl (2015-2025): A Scoping Review, Rehan Almegren

UB Journal for Humanities

This review synthesizes findings of empirical research on Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) from 2015 to 2025 in Saudi university EFL contexts. It included research that covered mixed-method, quantitative, qualitative, and investigations that use ICC frameworks, such as Byram’s model and Bennett’s DMIS which are international, to apply to local educational contexts. Findings show a gap between teachers’ theoretical support for integrating culture and how it is implemented in classrooms, compelled by curriculum demands, sensitivities around cultural content, and limited teacher training. Learners often struggle with pragmatics in aspects like politeness strategies and appropriate speech acts which highlights the necessity for …

Pragmatic Competence Of Saudi Female Efl Learners: A Modality-Based Study Of Conversational Implicatures, Afnan Almegren Oct 2025

Pragmatic Competence Of Saudi Female Efl Learners: A Modality-Based Study Of Conversational Implicatures, Afnan Almegren

UB Journal for Humanities

The comprehension of conversational implicatures is a significant challenge for second language learners. Although some previous research has investigated this area, limited studies have compared how comprehension is influenced by the modality of input. This study seeks to determine the extent to which Saudi female BA-level EFL learners’ comprehension scores differ between reading and listening tests for each implicature subtype. It also examines how strongly individual learners’ subscale scores in the reading test predict their corresponding subscale scores in the listening test, and which implicature types display the greatest and least cross-modal consistency. A quantitative study was conducted with 60 …

Gis-Based Identification Of Suitable Sites For Rainwater Harvesting In Tabuk Basin, Saudi Arabia, Eman Khaled Albalawi Oct 2025

Gis-Based Identification Of Suitable Sites For Rainwater Harvesting In Tabuk Basin, Saudi Arabia, Eman Khaled Albalawi

UB Journal for Humanities

Water scarcity in arid regions necessitates innovative water management strategies to ensure sustainable resource utilization. This study presents a comprehensive Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-based multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) framework for identifying optimal sites for rainwater harvesting (RWH) infrastructure in the Tabuk Basin, northwestern Saudi Arabia. The research employed the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate seven critical environmental parameters: rainfall patterns (55 mm annual average), topographic slope, soil texture, land use/ land cover classification, drainage density, stream order, and proximity to infrastructure. Remote sensing data from Landsat 8 imagery, NASA Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) digital elevation models, and Climatic …

How Can School Leadership Styles Influence Teacher Burnout And Academic Outcomes For Students, Courtney L. Williams

Graduate Teacher Education

Abstract

Teacher burnout continues to be a growing concern in education, impacting teachers' well-being and retention as well as students' overall academic outcomes and motivation. This capstone explores different themes relating to teacher burnout. The first theme is the causes and effects of teacher burnout and examines the various causes and implications of what is causing teachers to become burned out. Through scholarly research reviews, key insights have emerged showing that burnout is not only an individual teacher issue, but is shaped by organizational, teacher, and student-level factors. The second theme focuses on whether teacher burnout affects student academic outcomes …
