The Borrowable Standard: Orthographic Standardization, Text Normalization, Collation And Legacy Font Encoding In Text Corpora That Serve As Critical-Apparatus Witnesses, With The Khmer Pāli Canon, Thon Ly Oct 2026

The Borrowable Standard: Orthographic Standardization, Text Normalization, Collation And Legacy Font Encoding In Text Corpora That Serve As Critical-Apparatus Witnesses, With The Khmer Pāli Canon, Thon Ly

Defensive Publications Series

This study concerns orthographic standardisation, text normalisation and legacy character encoding as preconditions for machine-readable text corpora that must stand as witnesses in a critical apparatus. It begins from a claim it refutes: that a machine-readable corpus requires a standardised orthography. Swiss German and the Arabic dialects lack one yet support corpora and benchmarks by normalising toward a standard borrowed from a related language (Standard German, Modern Standard Arabic) or toward a convention built for the purpose (CODA). For a corpus that must be authoritative in its own language, a witness to a text rather than a corpus about a …

Circulation Sports: A Category That Already Had Members And No Name — Classifying Keep-Up Circle Games, Cooperative Ball Games And Sports Warm-Up Drills By Scoring Unit, Guaranteed Equal Participation And No Individual Statistics, Thon Ly

Defensive Publications Series

This study classifies cooperative and non-competitive ball games, keep-up circle games and sports warm-up drills by their scoring unit. Some sports score when an exchange ends; others score when it continues. A circulation sport is defined by three properties held as rules: it scores the completed pass rather than the termination; it guarantees that every participant receives the ball (by mandatory rotation, a called receiver or an all-must-touch rule); and it keeps no individual statistics. Below three participants a forward pass cannot be told from a return, a floor cited from work on generalized exchange and indirect reciprocity. A three-step …

A Zero-Centred Bilateral Credit Ledger For Customer Prepayment And Peer-To-Peer Lending In Which No Balance Grows On Its Own — A Size-Blind Reputation Display, And Debt Forgiveness As The Only Crossing Into A Gift Ledger, Thon Ly Oct 2026

A Zero-Centred Bilateral Credit Ledger For Customer Prepayment And Peer-To-Peer Lending In Which No Balance Grows On Its Own — A Size-Blind Reputation Display, And Debt Forgiveness As The Only Crossing Into A Gift Ledger, Thon Ly

Defensive Publications Series

We disclose a zero-centred bilateral credit ledger for customer prepayment and peer-to-peer lending in which no balance grows on its own. Two parties keep one running balance, signed by both and held on both phones, whose sign states who owes, so prepayment and credit are one balance either side of zero. The balance never moves by time. It changes only by a co-signed entry when cash or goods change hands, its discount fixed on that entry; by a co-signed repayment; or by a release the creditor makes alone. There is no accrual, compounding or late penalty; the ledger is non-accruing …

Background: Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with diabetes experience significant biopsychosocial burden linked to hormonal shifts, HPA‑axis dysregulation, autonomic imbalance, metainflammation, and socio‑emotional stress, with heightened challenges among marginalized populations and those with “double diabetes.” This pilot evaluated the feasibility of an eight‑week integrative, chakra‑informed yoga program for AYA with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and included caregiver assessments to explore preliminary multidomain outcomes.

Objective: To assess feasibility and explore preliminary psychological, physiological, relational, and biomarker changes following a developmentally attuned Kundalini yoga program for AYA with diabetes and their caregivers.

Methods: A prospective, single‑arm pilot delivered weekly 90‑minute …

The Role Of Risk-Based Audit Quality In Enhancing Financial Control Efficiency And Mitigating Financial Corruption In Iraqi Banks In Light Of The Ippf 2024 Framework, Nadia Talib Salman Oct 2026

The Role Of Risk-Based Audit Quality In Enhancing Financial Control Efficiency And Mitigating Financial Corruption In Iraqi Banks In Light Of The Ippf 2024 Framework, Nadia Talib Salman

Muthanna Journal of Administrative and Economics Sciences

The study investigates the relationship between risk-based audit quality, financial oversight efficiency and financial corruption reduction in banks listed on the Iraq Stock Exchange in the years 2008–2025 by applying International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) 2024. A composite risk-based audit quality index was created which included auditor independence, auditor professional qualification, frequency of audit committee meetings, and auditor presence of a formal risk committee. Thirty three hundred annual reports were processed using AI-supported structured extraction with the Gemini API, resulting in an unbalanced final panel of 303 bank-year observations from 20 banks. Random Effects and some robustness and diagnostic tests …

Impact Of Digital Transformation On Earnings Quality: A Sample Of Commercial Banks Listed On The Iraq Stock Exchange (Isx), Ahmed Neamah Abed Oct 2026

Impact Of Digital Transformation On Earnings Quality: A Sample Of Commercial Banks Listed On The Iraq Stock Exchange (Isx), Ahmed Neamah Abed

Muthanna Journal of Administrative and Economics Sciences

This research will examine how digital transformation influences the quality of earnings of the commercial banks in the Iraqi Stock Exchange. The research problem is that there is no clear picture of what constitutes the relationship between investment in digital assets and the quality of earnings and there is debate on whether digital transformation helps in improving the quality of earnings or that it does not have a significant effect, especially in the new banking environment like Iraq.
The importance of the study is the fact that it presents direct quantitative data of this relationship through the quantifiable financial indicators. …

Did Seismic Events Trigger The Growth Of Aragonitic Speleothems In Mawmluh Cave, North-East India?, Dildi Dildi, Dana Riechelmann Dr., Michael Weber Dr., Anne Jantschke Dr., Regina Mertz-Kraus Dr., Denis Scholz Dr.

International Journal of Speleology

Mawmluh Cave, north-east India, is located in a seismically very active region within the Himalayas with frequent earthquakes of varying magnitude. So far, speleothems from the cave have mainly been used to reconstruct past monsoon variability. The potential effect of seismic events on speleothem formation in Mawmluh Cave, however, has not been studied in detail yet. We investigated three stalagmites from Mawmluh Cave, each predominantly consisting of calcite overlain by substantially younger aragonite at the top (i.e., an aragonite ‘cap’). 230Th/U-dating shows that the initiation of aragonite growth occurred between 1859 and 1950 CE in agreement with previous studies. The …

The Evolving Wildfire Crisis: The Need To Adapt Statewide Extension Efforts To Address Diverse Challenges, Alison L. Deak, Kathryn E. Low, Luca Carmignani, Ryan E. Tompkins, Barbara Satink Wolfson

Journal of Extension

There are many factors that contribute to wildfire preparedness in California. Although effective wildfire preparedness requires tailored regional approaches, it is crucial to understand how statewide Extension programs can address shared challenges while augmenting region-specific strategies. For the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Fire Network to meet the growing demands for fire-related Extension programming, a team of advisors surveyed California residents to refine the goals of our Extension programs. Survey results highlight key gaps in fire-related Extension education that residents in California and beyond need to reduce their wildfire risk.

Early Cardiometabolic Risk Assessment In Young Adults: The Emerging Role Of Body Roundness Index And Growth Differentiation Factor-15, Omar Jasim Mohammed, Hassanain K. Mehdi Oct 2026

Early Cardiometabolic Risk Assessment In Young Adults: The Emerging Role Of Body Roundness Index And Growth Differentiation Factor-15, Omar Jasim Mohammed, Hassanain K. Mehdi

Muthanna Medical Journal

Background: Cardiometabolic disorders in young adults often develop silently, years before clinical disease becomes apparent. Body mass index (BMI), the most widely used anthropometric measure of obesity, does not capture how fat is distributed in the body, and so misses much of the risk carried specifically by visceral adiposity. Two markers have drawn increasing attention as ways to address this gap: The Body Roundness Index (BRI), derived from waist circumference and height, and Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF-15), a stress-responsive cytokine.
Methods: This narrative review synthesizes current literature on the biological rationale, clinical applications, and limitations of BRI and GDF-15 …

Divergent Geographies Of Disadvantage: Multidimensional Poverty And Teacher-Deployment Priority Across Ghana's 261 Districts, Bismark B. Fermah, Cai Lianyu Oct 2026

Divergent Geographies Of Disadvantage: Multidimensional Poverty And Teacher-Deployment Priority Across Ghana's 261 Districts, Bismark B. Fermah, Cai Lianyu

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan

Ghana relies on two district-level rankings of disadvantage to guide equity policy: a census-based multidimensional poverty index and a teacher-deployment priority list. Because the deployment flag conditions on classroom overcrowding, the inverse care law predicts the two should diverge, yet policy treats them as interchangeable. This study examined whether the two rankings identify the same districts. This descriptive ecological cross-sectional study linked the 2021 Census multidimensional poverty statistics to the 2026 Teachers for All: Ghana classification across all 261 districts and 16 regions, applying Welch's t test, two one-sided tests of equivalence against pre-specified margins of 10.0 and 4.8 percentage …

Indigenous Religion And Community Order: Crime Prevention Strategies Among Worshippers Of Igbe Orhe In Nigeria, Onoseme Fortune Afatakpa Dr

African Journal of Criminology and Justice Studies

This ethnographic study examines crime prevention strategies within Igbe Orhe, an indigenous African religious tradition practiced in Delta State, Nigeria. While existing security studies primarily emphasize formal and direct approaches to crime prevention, this research foregrounds the less explored structural mechanisms embedded in cultural spirituality. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with purposively selected participants, including the Uku Supreme (global leader), High Priests (Uku), High Priestess (Omote Uku), Chief Priests (Inori), Chief Priestesses (Ini Igbe), and Votary Singers (Akpine). Two focus group discussions were also conducted with female and youth members of selected …

Alternative Dispute Resolution And Legal Pluralism In Practice: Grassroots Mediation In The Akamba Counties Of Kenya, Victoria M. Time, Daniel K. Pryce Oct 2026

Alternative Dispute Resolution And Legal Pluralism In Practice: Grassroots Mediation In The Akamba Counties Of Kenya, Victoria M. Time, Daniel K. Pryce

African Journal of Criminology and Justice Studies

Abstract

Alternative dispute resolution (ADR), the process of employing a third party, outside of the state apparatus, to help resolve disputes between opposing parties, has been used on the African continent for hundreds of years. In Kenya, the focus of the current study, ADRs have included mediation, negotiation, and arbitration. To have a better understanding of why Kenyans are embracing mediation instead of the formal courts to resolve disputes, the study relies on the legal pluralism theoretical framework and the results of a study that employed two ethnographic techniques – interviews and participant observation – from three Kenyan counties: Makueni, …

Vocation, Grace, And Redemption In J. R. R. Tolkien’S Legendarium, Yoshie Shimai Oct 2026

Vocation, Grace, And Redemption In J. R. R. Tolkien’S Legendarium, Yoshie Shimai

Journal of Tolkien Research

Abstract

This essay reads Frodo's trajectory of vocation, sacrifice, and salvation in The Lord of the Rings through Aquinas's account of the cooperation of grace and free will (Summa Theologica I-II, qq. 109–114), and reads Gollum and Gríma as two unwitting mediators of grace. It does not argue that Tolkien consciously adopted this doctrine, but that his characters enact it. Frodo freely accepts two vocations, the destruction of the Ring and the protection of the Shire, yet cannot complete either by his own strength. Their completion comes through the two fallen figures: Gollum at the Crack of Doom, and …

From Anatomy To Safe Action: The A2d And Scope-D Frameworks For Teaching Clinical Reasoning And Referral Communication In Physical Therapist Education, Arvie Vitente, Pamela Taylor, Christopher Dela Rosa, Art Lubinski Oct 2026

From Anatomy To Safe Action: The A2d And Scope-D Frameworks For Teaching Clinical Reasoning And Referral Communication In Physical Therapist Education, Arvie Vitente, Pamela Taylor, Christopher Dela Rosa, Art Lubinski

Philippine Journal of Physical Therapy

Introduction. Physical therapist learners may accurately recall anatomy yet struggle to translate it into testable hypotheses, recognize discordant findings, select proportionate actions, and communicate uncertainty within scope. Existing frameworks address clinical reasoning or structured communication, but limited guidance connects anatomy-based hypothesis testing directly to patient-centered referral communication when findings do not fit. This theory piece pairs Anatomy-to-Decision (A2D) with SCOPE-D to address that curricular gap.

Methods. Integrative conceptual design drew on literature concerning physical therapist clinical reasoning, illness scripts, cognitive load, dual-process reasoning, hypothesis-oriented patient management, safety screening, and communication of diagnostic uncertainty. These foundations were translated into features intended …

Whose Burden Is It Anyway? A Historical Resolution To Burden Allocation Under Federal Rule Of Civil Procedure 12(B)(3), Curtis Valencia Oct 2026

Whose Burden Is It Anyway? A Historical Resolution To Burden Allocation Under Federal Rule Of Civil Procedure 12(B)(3), Curtis Valencia

Northwestern University Law Review

Today, venue is generally treated as secondary to jurisdiction: statutory, waivable, and concerned with where litigation should proceed, rather than whether it should proceed at all. Yet the courts of appeals remain split over a basic question of federal venue procedure: who bears the burden of proof when a defendant moves to dismiss for improper venue under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 12(b)(3)? Though seemingly technical, in practice, burden allocation can determine whether a suit survives.

This Note offers the first historically grounded approach to resolving Rule 12(b)(3)’s burden allocation problem and argues that the circuit majority approach rests on …

Differences In Sustained Attentional Engagement With Emotional Targets In Individuals Reporting High And Low Worry, Jinu J. Mathew Oct 2026

Differences In Sustained Attentional Engagement With Emotional Targets In Individuals Reporting High And Low Worry, Jinu J. Mathew

Clinical Psychology Dissertations

Attention bias towards emotionally salient or threatening information has been well documented across various populations, and it has been thought to contribute to the development and maintenance of anxiety. While previous research has identified early-stage attentional differences in individuals reporting elevated anxiety symptoms, less is known about how worry might impact later-stage processes involving sustained attentional engagement and visual working memory. The present study examined behavioral and electrophysiological indices of attentional processing during a modified visual search task in individuals reporting high compared to low levels of worry. Sixty-eight participants were recruited and classified into high and low worry groups …

Reckless Accomplices, Ben A. Mcjunkin Oct 2026

Reckless Accomplices, Ben A. Mcjunkin

Northwestern University Law Review

In recent years, criminal prosecutors have pursued homicide charges against the parents of teenaged school shooters. Two high-profile cases—one from Michigan and one from Georgia—provide paradigmatic examples. In each case, the parents provided their children with weapons and ammunition despite obvious signs of each child’s dangerousness and instability. Criminal liability for such reckless conduct is appropriate. But homicide charges are not. This Article critiques this new trend in prosecutions as distorting the substantive criminal law to obtain an outcome that is otherwise unavailable without criminal code reform.

It is a long-held criminal law tenet that intentional wrongful conduct by one …

Originalism's General-Law Turn, Nina Varsava, Bill Watson Oct 2026

Originalism's General-Law Turn, Nina Varsava, Bill Watson

Northwestern University Law Review

Originalists are increasingly turning to a general-law theory of constitutional rights. Under this theory, constitutional enactment declared but did not create constitutional rights. The content of those rights was, and remains, a question of general law—a species of common law, regularly employed at the Founding, that transcends jurisdictional boundaries. This preoccupation with general law has precipitated a wave of scholarship developing general-law accounts of various constitutional rights. Yet the nature of general law itself remains poorly understood.

This Article offers a theory of general law. Using philosophical methods to reexamine early American cases and recent work in legal history, the …

Arbitration In Name Only, Myriam Gilles Oct 2026

Arbitration In Name Only, Myriam Gilles

Northwestern University Law Review

Modern arbitration clauses hide a dirty secret: many don’t actually provide for genuine arbitration. These provisions masquerade as mutual commitments to fair and efficient private dispute resolution but, in truth, are mere imitations of genuine arbitration provisions. Some reserve for the drafter the power to amend or terminate the clause at will without notice or consent; others design the arbitration process to ensure bias from the start; still others depart so radically from the bilateral, informal model blessed by the Supreme Court that they scarcely resemble arbitration at all. These arrangements are arbitration in name only, falling outside the Federal …

Ornamental Letters In J.R.R. Tolkien's Manuscripts, Eduardo Boheme Kumamoto Oct 2026

Ornamental Letters In J.R.R. Tolkien's Manuscripts, Eduardo Boheme Kumamoto

Journal of Tolkien Research

The purpose of this article is to examine ornamental letters and decoration that in some way interacts with letterforms in J.R.R. Tolkien’s manuscripts. I explore Tolkien’s use of elements such as double strokes, color, dots, and flourishes to add prominence and beauty to the letterforms; where possible I also try to establish a relation between these ornaments and medieval manuscripts.

Identifiability, Sequentiality And Infinity (--Remarks--), Jose L. Menaldi Oct 2026

Identifiability, Sequentiality And Infinity (--Remarks--), Jose L. Menaldi

Mathematics Faculty Research Publications

Two sections are added to my previous article with similar title, in relation to the so-called dynamic logic-error, other complications with modern mathematics and some details on the philosophy behind scene. These remarks could be seen as more details on the axioms of math-arguments and the actual basis-inspiration of the meta-math previously developed. In other words, this `continuation' gives the connection between (meta-)mathematics and the science of the creation-energy.

Artificial Intelligence As A Tool To Enhance High-Leverage Practices In Special Education, Kanisha Porter, Viveca Grant Ed.D., Delilah A. Gonzales Oct 2026

Artificial Intelligence As A Tool To Enhance High-Leverage Practices In Special Education, Kanisha Porter, Viveca Grant Ed.D., Delilah A. Gonzales

The Journal of the Research Association of Minority Professors

Special education teachers face instructional, documentation, and compliance demands that often impede the fidelity of High-Leverage Practices (HLPs). While HLPs are central to promoting positive academic and behavioral growth for students with disabilities, a significant research-to-practice gap persists because educators lack the time and resources to implement these evidence-based strategies consistently within increasingly complex classrooms. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers emerging opportunities to mitigate systemic burdens by serving as a collaborative partner rather than a replacement for professional judgment. This manuscript examines AI’s potential to enhance HLP implementation across the domains of instruction, data-driven practice, collaboration, and intensive intervention. Drawing upon …
