Agro-Ecotourism In Ciputri Village: Evaluating Potentials And Strategies For Sustainable Tourism Development, Inanditya W. Putri, Hafid Setiadi
Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)
Sustainable rural tourism development requires integrated planning that balances environmental conservation, community participation, and local economic growth. Agro-ecotourism has emerged as an important approach to support village-based tourism development in environmentally sensitive areas. Ciputri Village in Cianjur Regency has been designated as a tourism village and possesses considerable agro-based and ecological potential. However, tourism development remains suboptimal due to limited public awareness, low visitor numbers, and fragmented strategic planning. This study aims to assess agro-ecotourism potential and to formulate priority development strategies. An integrated approach combining Participatory Geographic Information Systems (P-GIS), SWOT-based EFAS/IFAS analysis, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) …

Interpretable Linear Models For Heart Disease Prediction: A Comparative Study, Dipok Deb, Emran Hossain
Data Science and Data Mining
Heart disease remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide, underscoring the importance of accurate and transparent methods for early diagnosis. While many machine learning and artificial intelligence models have demonstrated strong predictive performance, their limited interpretability poses challenges for clinical adoption. In this study, we evaluate three interpretable linear classification models—Generalized Linear Model (GLM) logistic regression, L1-regularized (Lasso) logistic regression, and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA)—for heart disease prediction using the Cleveland Heart Disease dataset. Following comprehensive data preprocessing, the models are assessed on a held-out test set using standard evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and the area under …

Understanding Gender Differences In Academic Achievement Among Engineering Students, Luai Al Labadi, Mohammad Saleh Bataineh, Lim Kyuson, Nida Siddiqui
International Journal for Research in Education
In recent years, a noticeable shift has occurred in academic performance, with females consistently outperforming males in mathematical engineering courses. To investigate the factors contributing to this trend, we conducted a comprehensive survey at a main university in UAE. Analyzing data from 431 engineering students, we found that the time spent studying outside the classroom plays a pivotal role, evidenced by a statistically significant p-value of 0.04, contributing to the gender-based performance disparity. Building upon these findings, we propose short-term solutions that instructors and universities can implement promptly to address this issue. This study underscores the importance of ongoing institution-level, …

Staff Education To Use The Teach-Back Method Toward Increasing Adherence To Medications In A Mental Health Clinic, Yanysel Gonzalez Torres
Staff Education To Use The Teach-Back Method Toward Increasing Adherence To Medications In A Mental Health Clinic, Yanysel Gonzalez Torres
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A staff development project was conducted at a mental health clinic to improve medication adherence among patients. The intervention was an evidence-based presentation on the teach-back method for staff members to educate them about the importance of using the teach-back method for patient teaching to increase medication adherence among mental health patients. The gap identified by leadership was that staff members are often unaware of strategies for patient education designed to ensure that patients take their medications as prescribed by the provider. The project was conducted over a period of 4 weeks, with sessions held 3 days per week, taking …

Patient-Specific Lumped-Parameter Model For Quantifying Vessel-Specific Remodeling And Predicting Right Ventricular Function In Pulmonary Hypertension, Christopher G. Lechuga, Amirreza Kachabi, Mitchel J. Colebank, Claudia E. Korcarz, Farhan Raza
Faculty Publications
Purpose: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a heterogeneous disease with patient-specific variability and vessel-specific remodeling, which eventually lead to right ventricular (RV) failure. The gold standard for RV assessment—pressure–volume (PV) loop acquisition—is invasive and limited to specialized settings. This study aims to develop a patient-specific lumped-parameter model that quantifies vessel-specific remodeling and simulates RV PV loops across PH phenotypes using routine clinical data.
Methods: A lumped-parameter model was calibrated using right heart catheterization and echocardiography data. Model agreement was assessed by R2 values for pressure and flow goodness-of-fit, and model-derived hemodynamic metrics were comparedwith clinical values. A dimensionality reduction approach was …

Examining The Effects Of Acculturative Stress And Religiosity Within Muslim Immigrants, Aasma Nuzzi
ETD Collection
ABSTRACT There remains a substantial need for awareness about mental health and effective counselling within Muslim immigrant communities. Previous research has found higher levels of stress, depression, and anxiety amongst Muslim immigrants; however, limited research has focused on the manner in which acculturative stress and religiosity influence psychological well-being, particularly when also considering generational differences. Therefore, using a sample composed of 369 first and second-generation South Asian Muslim immigrants, the following study examined the effects of acculturative stress on depression and life satisfaction, as well the moderating influence of religiosity and generational differences. As hypothesized, acculturative stress was significantly negatively …

From The Ashes Of Silence: How Transgenerational Trauma And Adaptive Communication Styles Affect The Ability Of Grandchildren Of Holocaust Survivors To Cope With Antisemitism, Diana Ariel Harman
ETD Collection
The Holocaust was a shocking atrocity that killed six million Jews (Bauman, 2003). The literal translation of The Holocaust is: “from the ashes” (Stein, 2014). This definition describes the experience of a Holocaust survivor having to build themselves up from the ashes of destruction. Throughout the past 70 years, researchers have tried to answer the question of whether traumatic events can be passed down to those who have never experienced them (Kellerman, 2024). Although there have been many ways of defining this transmission of trauma from historical, collective, intergenerational, and transgenerational trauma, one approach is to examine the longterm effects …

The development of photoelectrochemical (PEC) devices involves the attachment of molecular photosensitizers onto solid supports. Particularly significant to this work are PECs that rely on ruthenium-based photosensitizers on high band gap metal oxide (MOx) supports. In this study, we have explored a new ester binding motif (MOx-ester) to covalently attach a ruthenium polypyridyl photosensitizer to TiO2. This new MOx-ester photoanode is compared to the traditional photoanodes that utilize acid/base binding groups to attach the molecular Ru sensitizers to TiO2. The new MOx-ester binding motif is characterized by cyclic voltammetry UV-Vis, solid state 13C NMR, and …

Digital Financial Innovations, Investment Behaviors, And The Financial Well-Being Of Low-Wage Workers, Jayden Liu, Stephen Roll, Mathieu Despard
Center for Social Development Research
Digital financial innovations (DFI) are an increasingly prominent part of the financial market. These innovations may be attractive to low-wage workers as alternative investment vehicles. This brief examines low-wage workers' use of DFIs through their ownership of digital trading accounts and investment in several financial assets, including assets that are traditionally more stable as well as newer, nontraditional assets that may carry higher risk, across income levels and employment status. We also investigate whether workers reported receiving returns from using these assets, and finally, we compare use of traditional assets and nontraditional assets against workers’ savings, with emphasis on the …

Employment Circumstances And Use Of Financial Services Among Low-Wage Workers, Anthony Nixon Jr., Mathieu Despard
Center for Social Development Research
Work arrangements have become increasingly varied in recent years, with much labor-market participation happening outside of traditional full-time roles. As gig work and other forms of self-employment, contract labor, and part-time positions grow, and work arrangements diversify, employment instability is a growing concern, especially for low-wage workers. This brief presents original evidence on the use of financial services among low-wage workers in the United States. Data come from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility (WEIM) survey administered to a nationally representative sample of 2,511 U.S. workers earning less than 250% of the federal poverty line.

For parents in the United States, childcare costs are one of the largest expenses in the budget. This brief examines the childcare arrangements low-wage workers adopt, their difficulties in accessing and affording childcare, and the extent to which they utilize childcare benefits offered by their employers or the government. To do so, we use on data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility (WEIM) survey of a nationally representative sample of low-wage U.S. workers. For these analyses, the sample includes only workers with children under the age of 6.

Barriers To Entry, Barriers To Exit: Exploring The Relationship Between Administrative Burdens And Work Disincentives In Public Benefits Programs, Stephen Roll, Guangli Zhang, Mathieu Despard
Center for Social Development Research
Through the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility project, the Center for Social Development has explored how the design of the U.S. public benefits system creates barriers to the economic stability and mobility of low-wage workers. The first of these barriers is the administrative burdens embedded in public benefits, which refers to the difficulties and stresses potential beneficiaries experience learning about a program, complying with program rules, or interacting with program staff. The second of these barriers is the work and savings disincentives many public benefits programs create through their eligibility rules, which can punish beneficiaries for earning or saving more …

An Improved United-Atom Potential For Molecular Dynamics Simulation Of Saturated Properties Of N-Alkanes, Wazih Tausif, Jordan Hartfield, Alex George, Zhi Liang
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Multiple united-atom (UA) potential models have been developed in the literature to reproduce experimental saturated properties of n-alkanes using Monte Carlo simulations. When these UA potentials are employed in molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, MD simulations often give relatively poor predictions of saturated properties of n-alkanes, particularly the saturated vapor densities, due to the challenges in accurate calculation of long-range intermolecular forces beyond the cutoff distance in an inhomogeneous system. In this work, a new set of UA Lennard-Jones (LJ) interaction parameters for n-alkanes is proposed to reproduce the saturated properties, including saturated liquid and vapor densities (ρf and ρ …

Recent Advances Toward Damage-Tolerant 3d-Printed Titanium Alloys: Alloy Design Perspective, Saeid Alipour, Arezoo Emdadi, Ju Li
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Twenty-year uninterrupted endeavor of titanium alloys printing has opened up a new paradigm in metal additive manufacturing (AM) to fabricate engineering components with required strength–density–corrosion combinations. Despite the remarkable advances in titanium AM, controlling the grain structure to print the parts with engineered microstructures, tailored mechanical properties, and minimum anomalies remains challenging. Numerous approaches have been implemented to address this challenge, such as printing parameter control, post-AM heat treatments, and thermomechanical processing. In addition to the aforementioned conventional approaches, novel techniques have been proposed that require employing hybrid manufacturing or developing the printer itself. One of the novel pathways in …

This article examines how intersectional ideologies and experiences of marginalization affect the extent to which African Americans support or oppose the marginalization of LGBTQ communities. We posit that awareness of the race-gender positionality of African American women, as well as the unique positionalities of other marginalized African American subgroups, is critical to understanding the conditions under which Black Americans embrace LGBTQ rights and communities. Using the Black respondent subsample of the 2016 Collaborative Multiracial Post-Election Study, we test the extent to which intersectional theories explain African American cross-group consciousness with LGBTQ persons and support for LGBTQ rights and communities. Unpacking Shared Pessimism Between Citizen And Bureaucracy: A Socio-Psychological Barrier To Public Service Reform In Indonesia, Reza Fathurrahman, Christoph Hoennige
BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi
In this study, we examine the existence of a reciprocal pattern of performance bias shared between citizens and street-level bureaucrats, which we term as ‘shared pessimism’, assumed to implicate public service reform. Primary data were collected using surveys administered to 207 public service providers and 248 citizen recipients across six Indonesian public service agencies operated in two regional governments. Statistical analysis was then conducted to examine bureaucrats’ self-enhancing bias and their pessimistic view of citizen ratings, as well as to clarify citizens’ tendency to underrate the performance of bureaucrats in public service organizations. Our findings confirm pervasive internal pessimism amongst …
