BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) using quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft is associated with lower rates of graft rupture and favorable functional outcomes compared with hamstring (HS) autograft in adolescents. The ACL-deficient knee is at increased risk of injury to secondary stabilizers of the knee, including the menisci, although studies have not reported differences in rates of subsequent meniscal tear between HS and QT groups.

PURPOSE: The goal of this study was to compare rates of graft rupture and subsequent meniscal tear after adolescent ACLR using HS or QT autograft.

STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

Objective.Accurate lung function assessment is essential for diagnosing and managing diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, pulmonary emboli, and lung cancer. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) provides valuable 3D functional imaging of ventilation and perfusion, but is limited by low spatial resolution, availability, additional radiation, and cost. Alternative methods, including CT-based perfusion (CT-P) and deep learning models, require large datasets to validate results that are often scarce. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) offer rapid and noninvasive global lung function measures and are clinically widely used. While ventilation correlates well with PFTs, perfusion imaging presents challenges due to complex blood flow and …

Molecular profiling has identified 3 groups of meningiomas, with MenG C tumors exhibiting the vast majority of recurrences. Efforts to find effective treatments for recurrent meningiomas have remained elusive. Higher WHO-grade meningiomas have exhibited greater Programmed Death Ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression through various methods, but the prognostic value of PD-L1 expression has not been described in the context of molecular profiling. Additionally, trials investigating PD-1/PD-L1-targeted immunotherapies have produced disappointing results. Here, we find that PD-L1 positivity, while prevalent in MenG C tumors, does not predict recurrence in the benign MenG A and B tumors. PD-L1 positivity also occurs independently of …

Tubulin Transforms Tau And Α-Synuclein Condensates From Pathological To Physiological, Lathan Lucas, Phoebe S Tsoi, My Diem Quan, Kyoung-Jae Choi, Josephine C Ferreon, Allan Chris M Ferreon

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Proteins undergo phase separation to form membraneless condensates that spatially organize biomolecular interactions. These condensates can support cellular physiology or instigate pathological protein aggregation. Tau and α-synuclein (αSyn) are neuronal proteins that form heterotypic Tau:αSyn condensates associated with physiological and pathological processes. Tau and αSyn regulate microtubules, but also misfold and co-deposit in aggregates linked to neurodegenerative disease, highlighting the ambivalent impact of Tau:αSyn condensation in health and disease. Here, we show that Tubulin modulates Tau:αSyn condensates by promoting microtubule interactions and inhibiting homotypic and heterotypic pathological oligomers. In the absence of Tubulin, Tau-driven condensation accelerates formation of pathogenic Tau:αSyn …

Background/objectives: SETD2 is a dual-function methyltransferase important for methylation of histone H3 at lysine 36 and α-tubulin in spindle microtubules. Genetic inactivation of SETD2 during oncogenesis drives loss of H3K36me3, genomic instability, and cancer progression. This study asked if disruption of genomic stability was a canonical feature of SETD2 inactivation via different pathways.

Methods: We evaluated the impact of EPZ-719, a pharmacologic SETD2 inhibitor, and an H3.3K36M mutant histone ("oncohistone") that binds and sequesters SETD2, on methylation activity and genomic stability in human cell lines. SETD2 activity was measured using in vitro methylation assays, H3K36me3 loss confirmed by Western analysis, …

As visual artists, our ability to explain process and convey meaning in our work is very important. Our BFA and MFA studio art programs trained us to write clear, concise, and universal artist statements. We were encouraged to highlight the concepts behind our visual work and discouraged from including our personal narratives or employing Chicane or Latine bodies of knowledge. In response, we apply theories and methodologies by Gloria Anzaldúa to our artist statements. First, we offer a framework of testimonio, Borderlands theory, and autohistoria-teoría. Using the methodology of nepantlando, a creative doing of existing in-between worlds, we …

Korean Words In The Oed: Race, Gender, And The Modern English Speaker, Elaine W. Chun

Faculty Publications

This article examines representations of the Modern English Speaker of Korean (MESK) in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), as lexicographers listened to and documented the language of this figure over the past century. I show that, until the early twenty-first century, the most salient type of MESK was the Koreanist, a white, masculine expert on and translator of Korean, the language of a racial other. By contrast, more recent Korean entries, influenced by the global spread of hallyu, have invoked the Korea Fan, a figure that potentially unsettles longstanding ideologies of language, race, and gender. Nanosecond-pulsed discharges are a promising method to enhance combustion but can generate significant levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Modifying the discharge pulse width is an unexplored option to reduce EMI, but few studies have examined how changing the pulse width affects discharge parameters such as energy and temperature. This study addresses this issue by systematically investigating how the pulse width affects the energy per pulse, breakdown time, rotational temperature, and vibrational temperature in air across different frequencies, flow velocities, and gap distances in a plasma-assisted flow tube. It is observed that the pulse width has a substantial impact on the …
