Naming And Interpretative Meanings Of Selected African Prints And Ankara Fabric Designs, Adeola Abiodun Adeoti
Naming And Interpretative Meanings Of Selected African Prints And Ankara Fabric Designs, Adeola Abiodun Adeoti
Journal of Art, Design and Music
Ankara fabric has colourful designs, but both the colours and the designs on the fabric have hidden meanings with proverbs and events attached to them. As much as the fact that the paper is art historical, the naming system of Ankara fabric is yet to attract scholarly interest. Therefore, the ephemerality of the fabric and the changing nature of fashion call for immediate and chronological record of the histories of the designs before it fades out of memory. The study adopts qualitative approach of analyzing data with the use of both primary and secondary sources of data collection which were …

Multivalued Variational Inequalities With Generalized Fractional Φ-Laplacians, Vy Khoi Le
Multivalued Variational Inequalities With Generalized Fractional Φ-Laplacians, Vy Khoi Le
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works
In this article, we examine variational inequalities of the form (Formula presented.), where (Formula presented.) is a generalized fractional (Formula presented.) -Laplace operator, K is a closed convex set in a fractional Musielak–Orlicz–Sobolev space, and (Formula presented.) is a multivalued integral operator. We consider a functional analytic framework for the above problem, including conditions on the multivalued lower order term (Formula presented.) such that the problem can be properly formulated in a fractional Musielak–Orlicz–Sobolev space, and the involved mappings have certain useful monotonicity–continuity properties. Furthermore, we investigate the existence of solutions contingent upon certain coercivity conditions.

Operation Of A Packed Bed Reactor For Hyrdogenation, Austin Joseph Urfer
Graduate Theses - Chemical Engineering
The primary goals of this research were to develop an efficient standard operating procedure for undergraduate students and researchers performing reactions within a packed bed reactor and to determine the optimal operating conditions for phenethylamine formation from mandelonitrile hydrogenation. With the current laboratory packed bed reactor system, undergraduates can conduct gas-liquid phase reactions at a maximum temperature of 95℃ and a maximum pressure of 100 psi. The versatile system setup can be modified for unit operations laboratory instruction or future researchers analyzing heterogeneous catalysis reactions. The developed standard operating procedure provides detailed instructions on packing the reactor with a solid …
Umbrella And Jellyfish, Yanran Bi
Umbrella And Jellyfish, Yanran Bi
Masters Theses
Rainy season arrives as soon as the summer begins in Shanghai. For some reason, I rarely remember to bring an umbrella with me. I have a lot of umbrellas, most of them are transparent ones bought at subway stations. When it suddenly starts pouring rain, umbrella vendors in Shanghai gather at each crowded exit of the subway sta- tions to sell umbrellas to people like me. The cheapest umbrellas they have are always the transparent ones. The whole city is turned upside down by the rain with its reflections on every street. Then a transparent umbrella opens up, then another, …

Retail Investors' Activity And Climate Disasters, Marinela Adriana Finta
Retail Investors' Activity And Climate Disasters, Marinela Adriana Finta
Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics
We analyze the effects of climate disasters on retail investors’ trading activity. Results show that retail investors trade significantly less during and around climate disasters, and retail buyers exhibit higher returns than sellers. Climate disasters weaken the positive return predictability of the past month’s order imbalances while strengthening it for the past six month’s order imbalances. In the short run, firms within climate disaster counties with retail net buying underperform those with negative imbalances. Instead, in the long run, firms within and outside climate disaster counties with positive order flows outperform those with negative order flows. Finally, the estimates on …
Half Dawn, Catherine Ashley
Half Dawn, Catherine Ashley
Masters Theses
By presenting these words on paper, I have given entry into a microcosm of recent research, questions, and creative explorations. There is potential for disconnection when trying to turn your head inside out and present it in a way that feels beautiful for other people. I’m trusting the moments of authenticity I’ve found in my wandering. Segue. Relationship. Gesture. Illusion. My musings all stem from notions of temporality. Time dances on the farthest ends of both immensity and desolation. I’ve spent stretches of time asking the people, texts, and experiments around me to define time in a way that I …

Predicting Flexural-Creep Stiffness In Bending Beam Rheometer (Bbr) Experiments Using Advanced Super Learner Machine Learning Techniques, Alireza Roshan, Magdy Abdelrahman
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
BBR test is commonly used to assess the low-temperature performance grade (PG) of asphalt binders, with the flexural-creep stiffness being a critical parameter calculated through this test. However, it has notable limitations that demand attention. The significant amount of asphalt binder needed for test specimens increases costs and resource consumption. Additionally, the complex and time-consuming specimen preparation process hinders testing efficiency and introduces result variability, affecting the accuracy and reliability of PG determinations. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has emerged as a promising substitute for predicting various engineering values. In this study, the primary focus was on harnessing super …
