Malnutrition decreases intestinal bile acids, resulting in inefficient nutrient absorption and impaired catch-up growth. Mechanisms by which bile acid depletion occurs in malnutrition are unknown. Using a mouse model of early-life malnutrition, we explored bile acid homeostasis, focusing on transcriptional repression of CYP7B1, a rate-limiting enzyme in the alternative pathway of bile acid biosynthesis, by SREBP-1c, a master regulator of lipid metabolism. Mice were maintained on a low-protein low-fat or isocaloric control chow until eight weeks of age when livers were harvested for proteome profiling, western blot, RT-qPCR, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. Proper development of the central nervous system (CNS) depends on astrocytes, which are the most abundant glial cells in the CNS. Here, we provide an overview of astrocyte ontogeny and morphogenesis, highlighting mechanisms that regulate astrocyte development. In addition, we describe the roles of astrocytes in regulating the development of other CNS cell types, with emphasis on neural circuits and vascular networks. We also discuss evidence for astrocyte diversity and its implications for CNS development. Finally, we pose open questions related to astrocyte development and its intersection with astrocyte diversity.

This article discusses the nexus between Raymond Williams’ structure of feelings and the reproduction of military masculinity as cultural citizenship. By placing the gaze upon National Service in the Singapore Armed Forces as a rite of passage into manhood, this work uses representations of the military in popular culture and souvenirs/ephemera to elucidate how structures of feeling are calibrated as masculinity the state wants its citizenry to internalize. These render military masculinity emergent for Singaporean male bodies. “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos: Hip-Hop and the Carceral State in the East San Francisco Bay Area” explores the histories of urban redevelopment and deindustrialization, racialized poverty, police and the carceral system, and hip-hop culture in Oakland and other parts of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. It explores East Bay politics and urban development in the 1900s, which resulted in the flight of industries and wealthy white residents to the suburbs and the erosion of public services. This study examines how the Scooby-Doo franchise employs narrative complexity within an episodic formula, balancing accessibility with layered storytelling. Analyzing two pivotal iterations, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969) and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (2010), the research challenges the perception that episodic animation is inherently simplistic.

While the original series established a consistent mystery-of-the-week format, characterized by predictable structures and comedic relief, it also demonstrated narrative ingenuity through character dynamics and tonal balance. This paper examines the writings of St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) through the methodological lens of the history of emotions, arguing that her mystical accounts represent a crucial yet understudied contribution to our understanding of early modern emotional frameworks. Through close textual analysis of Teresa's major works, this study demonstrates how her detailed articulations of spiritual ecstasy, divine love, and religious melancholy offer unique insights into both the religious and secular emotional landscapes of Counter-Reformation Spain. The Penn School of the Sea Islands provided an education to thousands of rural, Black South Carolinians over the twentieth century. Northern missionaries including the founders of the Penn School, Laura M. Towne and Ellen Murray, taught and provided healthcare to the residents of the Port Royal Experiment through the Civil War and into Reconstruction. With the arrival of Rossa Cooley and Grace House, the Penn School put emphasis on auxiliary programing including midwifery training institutes held in conjunction with Dr. Hilla Sheriff and the South Carolina Department of Public Health’s Division for Maternal and Child Health. This study develops and validates the Political Influence of Celebrities Scale (PICS), designed to assess how entertainment celebrities influence young adults’ political attitudes and behaviors. Drawing on survey data collected from 498 university students in the United States, we applied exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to test the scale’s structure and psychometric validity. The results support a three-factor model consisting of general attitudes toward celebrities, enjoyment of celebrity-centered political content, and behavioral outcomes such as political discussion and participation. Each subscale demonstrated strong internal reliability (Cronbach’s α ≥ .79). The PICS provides a theoretically grounded and empirically supported measure to …

Research Aims: To build and test the effects of religiosity animosity, consumer efficacy, and xenocentrism on boycott participation.

Design/methodology/approach: This research uses a survey method with a sample of 255 young respondents in Indonesia, used surveys and interviews to collect data then analysis with SEM-PLS to examine the variables.

Research Findings: The study found that several factors significantly influence boycott participation in products affiliated with Israel. First, religiosity animosity has a notable effect; higher levels of religiosity animosity are associated with an increased likelihood of boycott participation. Despite the critical role of teaching practicums in teacher education, little is known about how pre-service teachers navigate emotional tensions in Indonesia. In this study, we aim to explore the nature of tensions and emotional struggles pre-service teachers face and their coping mechanisms. Seven pre-service teachers from the English Education department at an Indonesian public university were purposefully selected. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews before the practicum and a focused group discussion after the program. This thesis explores the evolution of African-led transnational reparations campaigns from the final decade of the twentieth century through the early decades of the twenty-first. It examines how reparative justice initiatives have emerged in response to the enduring legacies of slavery, colonialism, and systemic racial oppression, and how these campaigns reflect both historical memory and contemporary demands for justice by Africans and people of African descent worldwide. Research suggests that perimenopause can compound existing struggles for some Autistic people, with potentially catastrophic consequences. Barriers to self-expression due to communication differences are also well-documented. Acknowledging this, our neurodiverse research team invited creative submissions themed around Autistic experiences of menopause, receiving works from six Autistic participants including paintings, poetry, and graphic works. Engaging with the six creative submissions, Autistic Community Researchers on our team produced reflexive, polytextual response works. Creative exploration of Autistic menopause encouraged emotional catharsis, self-understanding, and activism/artivism.
