Moderating Effect Of Urban/Rural Status, State Of Residence, And Health Risk Factors On Maternal Mortality Among Different Races, Emmanuel Agubata
Moderating Effect Of Urban/Rural Status, State Of Residence, And Health Risk Factors On Maternal Mortality Among Different Races, Emmanuel Agubata
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Maternal mortality in the United States is significantly higher than in most developed nations and has been increasing since 2000. Persistent between-group disparities among White, Black, and Hispanic women occur in terms of maternal mortality; however, the reason for this is largely unknown. Using the intersectionality theory, this quantitative study examined if racial groups predicted maternal mortality and to what extent relationships were moderated by geographic area and health risk factors. This nonexperimental correlational historical research design addressed three research questions. The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project dataset was used for the analysis. The minimum sample size was 988 cases, …
Understanding Teachers’ Perceptions Of Best Practices For English Language Learners, Joshua Daniel Davis
Understanding Teachers’ Perceptions Of Best Practices For English Language Learners, Joshua Daniel Davis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In a district where only 5% of ELLs were deemed language proficient, the problem was the need to understand teacher perceptions of best practices to increase English language learner (ELL) achievement in reading and writing. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine teacher perceptions of best practices to support ELLs in improving their reading and writing in a heterogeneous high school classroom in a Mid-Atlantic school district. The framework that supported this study was the Cummins model on learners’ language use because it guides teaching and assessing students’ vocabulary acquisition in various contexts. The two research questions probed …

Many with severe mental illnesses are underserved by disjointed service provision. PARTNERS aims to address this via collaborative care with recovery-based coaching. PARTNERS was evaluated in a randomised controlled trial. Understanding how intervention delivery compared to the model, why this was, and under what circumstances, aids interpretation of trial results and optimisation of future implementation. This paper reports the results of a Realist assessment of fidelity, exploring delivery compared to model and refining programme theory. Practitioners, service users, supervisors, primary care representatives, and researchers (n = 39) were interviewed. Additional data included session recordings, follow up interviews, practitioner reflective logs, …

Subscriber Selection For New Service Rollout Based On Call Detail Records, Mahendra M. Periyadanam
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes techniques that make use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to intelligently select subscribers for new service rollouts based on call detail record (CDR) analysis. CDR data, obtained with user permission, is analyzed to select subscribers who frequently or infrequently use an existing service, enabling prioritizing such subscribers to rollouts of new services. The prioritized subscriber list is provided to a provisioning system to deliver configuration updates over-the-air (OTA) (or via any other mechanism, such as over the internet) to subscriber devices. Feedback from subscriber devices regarding adoption of new features is incorporated enabling refinement …

A Combined Nasolabial And Infra-Nasal Bi-Lobe Flap Design With Double Transposition For Reconstruction Of The Ipsilateral Upper And Lower Lips Associated With The Commissure Defect, Nyimi Bushabu Fidele, Yifang Zhao, Wu Tianfu, Yanfang Sun, Bing Liu
BioMedicine
Several classical flap variations have been designed to reconstruct lip and commissure defects. Although most of these variations maybe the best option for repairing defects, there is an increasing risk of anatomic distortion and functional disability, mostly in older persons. Herein, we present a combined nasolabial and infra-nasal bi-lobe flap design with double transposition, which was used to concomitantly close the upper and lower lips associated with commissure defects.

BioMedicine
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is distinguished by epigenetic elements like DNA methylation, histone modification, histone acetylation and RNA remodeling which is related with genomic instability and tumor initiation. Correspondingly, as a main epigenetic regulation, DNA methylation has an impressive ability in order to be used in CRC targeted therapy. Meaningly, DNA methylation is identified as one of most important epigenetic regulators in gene expression and is considered as a notable potential driver in tumorigenesis and carcinogenesis through gene-silencing of tumor suppressors genes. Abnormal methylation situation, even in the level of promoter regions, does not essentially change the gene expression levels, particularly …

The Judet Quadricepsplasty For Elderly Traumatic Knee Extension Contracture: A Case Report And Review Of The Literature, Benjamin Tze Keong Ding, Suheal Ali Khan
BioMedicine
Traumatic injuries to the knee are frequently complicated by extension contractures. The Judet Quadricepsplasty allows for controlled, sequential release of extrinsic and intrinsic knee contracture components while reducing the potential for iatrogenic quadriceps rupture. We document our institutions experience with this procedure and a systematic review of the current literature. We followed up on an elderly patient with posttraumatic flexion contracture that failed conservative management and underwent Judet Quadricepsplasty. Her knee range of motion improve dramatically from 20 degrees of flexion to 100 degrees of flexion. There was a residual extension lag of 5 degrees which did not impede on …
