Supporting Youth Through School Transitions: The Positive Impact Of Peer Mentorship, Denielle Johnston
Supporting Youth Through School Transitions: The Positive Impact Of Peer Mentorship, Denielle Johnston
Community Engagement Student Work
This capstone project proposes the development of a peer mentorship program to assist with student transitions across different school levels. The project advocates for a school-wide plan that leverages peer support to create smoother and more positive transition experiences for all students. The initiative aims to mitigate transition-related anxiety, foster a stronger sense of belonging, and enhance overall school involvement among students. To gain valuable insights and feedback on this proposal, an interview protocol was implemented with school administration and staff. The findings from these interviews highlighted existing disconnects between schools during transition periods and recognized the need for increased …

“The Centrality Of ‘Life’ For Johannine Ethics”, Craig R. Koester
Faculty Publications
Jan van der Watt has described ethics as rational and systematic reflection on actions that are deemed positive or negative. Basic questions involve the point of departure and the aim of ethical action. He rightly identifies God as the authoritative center for Johannine ethics and makes two observations that warrant further development. First, as the point of departure, “God is the living God (6:57), the God who is life and gives life,” and Jesus too “is and brings life.” Second, in “line with the task of Jesus, the aim of believers is to give, sustain, and promote life.” “Promoting life …
Chaucer’S Complaint To His Purse And Authority In The World, Paul A. Olson
Chaucer’S Complaint To His Purse And Authority In The World, Paul A. Olson
Department of English: Faculty Publications
Chaucer’s Complaint to His Purse concerns more than the poet’s financial need under the new Lancastrian administration. It speaks to the limits of Henry IV’s royal authority and, through irony, to the limitations of Chaucer’s purse’s power. Underlining royal limits, Chaucer petitions the king as one who holds office through election and line but not con-quest, which is Henry’s position on his office as well. In speaking iron-ically of the purse’s authority, the poet addresses the gold that the mon-arch might grant him as if it constituted a human or divine patron, but he does so in a hierarchy of …

A Set Of Axioms Providing A Basis For Understanding And Analyzing Work Systems In Organizational Settings, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
This paper proposes 24 axioms that form a basis for understanding and analyzing sociotechnical and totally automated work systems in organizational settings. The introduction identifies reasons for trying to develop axioms of that type. Two background sections compare axioms with other types of “knowledge objects”, illustrate the minimal presence of axioms in the IS discipline, define the domain of relevance for the axioms discussed here, and explain the process of developing those axioms. The axioms are organized in five categories: 1) system in context, 2) system operation, 3) system goals and goal attainment, 4) system uncertainties, and 5) system-related change. …

Equitable Educational Outcomes For New-To-Country Slife Students In Minnesota: The Student Perspective, Krista Lynn Aadland
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Students who are new-to-country and arrive with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE) are increasing in number in Minnesota schools, which is forecasted to continue to grow. Many of these students arrive with trauma, and this ultimately impacts their continued educational experience. Based on student perspectives, schools must be better prepared to receive these students and provide the education they need to ensure their future success. This phenomenological case study aimed to understand whether current program models within a high school in the metro area of Minnesota best served new-to-country SLIFE students. Seligman’s Theory of Well Being (2011) and Maslow’s …

Understanding The Lived Experiences Of Minnesota's Pseo Students: A Qualitative Exploration, Joel Edward Olson
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In my dissertation, Understanding the Lived Experiences of Minnesota's PSEO Students: A Qualitative Exploration, I explored students’ experiences of the transition from high school to college via Minnesota’s PSEO program. As a Bethel University faculty member with 19 years of prior experience as a high school English teacher, I have watched the number of PSEO students increase year after year from both sides of the secondary/post-secondary divide. This subtle undoing of the traditional high school to college progression significantly impacts not only the economic outlook for public high schools and colleges, but it also significantly impacts the educational experiences and …

Validating Structural Predictions Of Conjugated Macromolecules In Espaloma-Enabled Reproducible Workflows, Madilyn E. Paul, Chris D. Jones, Eric Jankowski
Boise State University Publications and Presentations
We incorporated Espaloma forcefield parameterization into MoSDeF tools for performing molecular dynamics simulations of organic molecules with HOOMD-Blue. We compared equilibrium morphologies predicted for perylene and poly-3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) with the ESP-UA forcefield in the present work against prior work using the OPLS-UA forcefield. We found that, after resolving the chemical ambiguities in molecular topologies, ESP-UA is similar to GAFF. We observed the clustering/melting phase behavior to be similar between ESP-UA and OPLS-UA, but the base energy unit of OPLS-UA was found to better connect to experimentally measured transition temperatures. Short-range ordering measured by radial distribution functions was found to be …
