Design Of Directive Wideband Microstrip Antenna, Hassan Ali Ragheb
Design Of Directive Wideband Microstrip Antenna, Hassan Ali Ragheb
Electrical Engineering
The study under consideration demonstrates design, simulation, and optimization of a compact Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna employing a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feeding structure and a circular patch geometry. The design is targeting a 7 GHz operating frequency, offering a balance between compact size, wide bandwidth, and directional radiation characteristics. An initial antenna configuration was developed and analyzed using HFSS, showing satisfactory performance in terms of impedance matching and radiation efficiency. However, asymmetries in the radiation pattern prompted further enhancement. An improved design employees strategically director elements placed above the circular patch to improve forward gain and radiation beam directivity. The optimized …

Constructing Sculptural Wearables: Indigenous Steam Education At The Intersection Of Art And Science, Patricia Andersen
Theses and Dissertations
This paper describes an approach to STEAM education in which art is viewed as a unique discipline with distinct ways of thinking. The researchers developed and evaluated a STEAM education program to explore how art and science work together to expand and accelerate inventive thinking among Native American middle school students who participated in American Indian Services (AIS) Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (PREP). An important context of this project was the unique local environment and culture that included Diné (din-eh) culture in Gallup, NM. We hypothesize that integrating culturally responsive transdisciplinary art into an existing STEM summer program will increase students' …

Learning From Conditional Data Distributions, Jizhou Huang
Learning From Conditional Data Distributions, Jizhou Huang
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Traditional machine learning paradigms often rely on a single global model trained on an entire dataset, aiming for broad generalization across all instances. However, in many real-world applications, the underlying data distribution is heterogeneous, and meaningful predictions often require models that focus on specific subpopulations rather than treating the data as a whole. This motivates the study of learning from conditional distributions, a framework where predictive models are designed to capture the structure and properties of restricted subsets of the data, leading to improved accuracy, fairness, and interpretability. This dissertation explores three key subproblems that exemplify different aspects of learning …
The Constellation Of American Voters: Understanding Americans Who Live In And Out Of American Municipalities, Jordan Duffin Wong
The Constellation Of American Voters: Understanding Americans Who Live In And Out Of American Municipalities, Jordan Duffin Wong
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
More than 130 million Americans live in unincorporated areas, or the spaces outside the boundaries of cities, towns, and villages. Despite this, relatively little attention has been paid to whether, how, and why residents of unincorporated areas differ from their municipality-dwelling counterparts. In this dissertation, I explore the answers to these questions by establishing a new theoretical framework that rigorously defines, bounds, and partitions unincorporated space. Drawing on the near-universe of American voters, I illustrate, with unparalleled precision, where and how Americans have sorted into and out of municipalities, and show that different mechanisms drive these phenomena. Furthermore, I explore …

Investigation Into Intraocular Pressure Distribution Via Computer Aided Engineering (Cae), Madison Maureen Hinman
Masters Theses
The leading cause for irreversible blindness and vision loss is glaucoma - an eye condition associated with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Increased IOP is also seen during other pathological conditions like spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome (SANS), and non-pathological conditions as when playing a wind instrument. The study aimed to describe the influence of different vitreous cavity size as well as vitreous fluid viscosity on the IOP as measured at the back of the eye on the retina. Improved understanding of eye pressure transmission can aid in a better understanding of eye diseases. The experiment conducted included cavities of varying size and …

Abington Jefferson Health Papers
BACKGROUND: Osimertinib, a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is an effective therapy for epidermal growth factor receptor-mutated non-small cell lung cancer, but it has been associated with a higher incidence of cardiotoxicity.
CASE SUMMARY: A 91-year-old woman on osimertinib 80 mg daily presented with acute dyspnea and was found to have a newly reduced left ventricular ejection fraction of 30%. Coronary angiography excluded obstructive coronary disease. Osimertinib was discontinued, and guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) was initiated, resulting in left ventricular ejection fraction recovery to 60%. The patient was successfully rechallenged with osimertinib while continuing GDMT, without recurrence …

Measuring The Impact On Landscape And Sediment Transport Of Climate And Anthropogenic Influence In The Mississippi River Since 2000 Bce, Bailey Wycoff
Measuring The Impact On Landscape And Sediment Transport Of Climate And Anthropogenic Influence In The Mississippi River Since 2000 Bce, Bailey Wycoff
LSU Master's Theses
Understanding river dynamics is crucial to being able to interpret the geological history preserved in sediment deposited on continental margins, deltas, and alluvial plains. Sediment buffering can be a key control on the sediment flux to the ocean and involves sediment storage and recycling in flood plains. The efficiency of the transport varies depending on climatic and more recently anthropogenic influences. Sediment moving through meandering streams may be temporarily deposited in a point bar on the convex side of a meandering river. Meanders are sometimes cut off, creating an oxbow lake and filled in. The area of study, False River, …

An Analysis Of Vertical Deformation On Cianjur Earthquake 2022, Candra Perkasa Nurlukman, Adi Wibowo
Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)
A shallow crustal-type earthquake on a surface fault occurred on November 21, 2022, in Cianjur, West Java. This destructive earthquake resulted in a loss of life, many houses were damaged, and landslides at several points. So, the research was analyzed using the DInSAR method to see the deformation and its relationship with the existing conditions in the field. We get the result of a vertical subsidence in the earthquake area of up to 101 millimeters. Through the distribution of displacement results, we found no overlapping faults at that location, identifying the formation of a new fault. In the distribution area …

Experienced Latinx Urban Gardeners In San Jose, Ca, Offer Strategies For Climate Justice And Resilience, Claudia S. Damiani Fontana
Master's Theses
Low-income and underinvested communities will be disproportionately affected by climate change due to limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient support systems. Urban gardeners are responding to the need to adapt to new climate conditions while sustaining their food sources and cultural practices. Many have adapted thanks to local interventions led by the government and non-profit agencies. For this study, I partnered with La Mesa Verde (LMV), a gardening and food justice program that works with low-income Latinx families in San José, and I documented the contributions of experienced Latinx gardeners, especially those with agricultural backgrounds, to climate-resilient gardening in San …
How Beliefs Shape What We Consider When Choosing What To Eat, Christopher Gustafson
How Beliefs Shape What We Consider When Choosing What To Eat, Christopher Gustafson
Cornhusker Economics
What determines which foods we consider? One factor, certainly, is what we like to eat, and if liking what we eat were the sole relevant outcome of food consumption, there would be little to say about incomplete consideration. However, diet quality has important, well-documented effects on health outcomes (as well as other important considerations, such as differential environmental impact). Close to 75 percent of American adults are overweight or obese, which increases the likelihood that the individual will experience one or more serious non-communicable diseases. A food’s healthiness is an important consideration for many people when making food choices, but, …
Humans Rule? Implications Of Religious Undergraduates’ Changing Environmental Perceptions, J. Robert Nielson
Humans Rule? Implications Of Religious Undergraduates’ Changing Environmental Perceptions, J. Robert Nielson
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Addressing climate change requires correctly appraising one’s ethic toward the Earth. Historically, people have navigated their relationship to the natural world via environmental ethics of both religious and secular origin. Aldo Leopold described developing this relationship via the land ethic, a culturally informed process, as “an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity.” A land ethic provides a reference point from which individuals and societies make decisions about the Earth and its resources. This thesis considers the evolving land ethic of a young population of conservative Christian students at Brigham Young University with two separate cohorts of non-biology major undergraduates enrolled …
A Workplace Posture Initiative To Reduce Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders, Carrie Isaac
A Workplace Posture Initiative To Reduce Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders, Carrie Isaac
All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects
Problem: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are a leading cause of occupational injury and discomfort in industrial workplaces. Although an ergonomic program existed at the project site, a formalized process to detect postural misalignments early had not been established. Relying on employee self-reporting, delayed intervention, and limited opportunities to prevent injuries before they progress.
Aim of the Project: A proactive posture screening program using PostureScreen® was implemented to identify postural deviations that could contribute to WRMSDs. Emphasis was placed on supporting employees through early awareness of posture-related issues and evaluation of alignment improvements following individualized intervention.
