System For Generating Auditable Product Definitions With An Adaptive Conversational Agent, Bakul Patel, Teginder Singh, Ramakrishnan Neelakandan
System For Generating Auditable Product Definitions With An Adaptive Conversational Agent, Bakul Patel, Teginder Singh, Ramakrishnan Neelakandan
Defensive Publications Series
Defining products for regulated industries may be challenging, as some tools, such as passive document editors, static forms, and general-purpose conversational agents, can lack adaptive, domain-specific guidance and may be unable to produce auditable records. Systems and methods are described that can assist with these challenges using a conversational artificial intelligence system. The system can employ a large language model and a dynamic questioning engine to interpret a user's natural language responses. By referencing a configurable knowledge base of domain-specific information, for example regulatory frameworks, the engine can adaptively adjust its line of questioning. From the elicited information, the system …
Presence-Triggered Predictive Caching Of Media Content, D Shin
Presence-Triggered Predictive Caching Of Media Content, D Shin
Defensive Publications Series
On-demand digital media streaming systems may experience playback latency, such as buffering, as content can be retrieved reactively after a user makes a selection. The described systems and methods can address this by using a presence signal to trigger a predictive process. A presence signal can be generated, for example, when a user’s computing device (e.g., a smartphone, smart watch, or wearable device) connects to a local network (e.g., a Wi-Fi network) or enters a geofence. Upon receiving this trigger, and with appropriate user permissions being granted, a predictive modeling engine can analyze the user’s content consumption history and context …
Adaptive Verification Of Generative Models Via Parallel Reasoning Generation, Neel Mohbe, Piyush
Adaptive Verification Of Generative Models Via Parallel Reasoning Generation, Neel Mohbe, Piyush
Defensive Publications Series
Generative models may produce outputs that appear correct but lack verifiable reasoning, and methods to generate such reasoning sequentially can introduce significant latency. The disclosed technology describes an adaptive verification framework where a prompt triage model can assess a query's potential risk level. Low-risk queries may bypass verification, while higher-risk queries can trigger a parallel process where a primary model generates an answer as a causal proxy model concurrently constructs a structured reasoning graph. A heuristic verifier can then programmatically audit this graph for aspects such as logical coherence and factual grounding. This system provides a method for generating auditable …
Centralized Multi-Channel Power Architecture For Independent Charging Of Peripheral Devices, Yao Ding, Diego Liu
Centralized Multi-Channel Power Architecture For Independent Charging Of Peripheral Devices, Yao Ding, Diego Liu
Defensive Publications Series
A system and method are described for managing power in a system with a charging enclosure and multiple peripheral devices, such as wireless devices or other portable electronics. In some configurations where peripherals have dissimilar battery levels, a single power converter in the enclosure can result in energy inefficiency and heat generation in the peripheral with a lower state of charge. The described architecture can centralize charging regulation within the charging enclosure. The enclosure may incorporate a multi-channel charger that provides an independent, dynamically adjusted power output for each peripheral. This control may be based on real-time battery status data …

Library Services Publications
Many libraries face challenging budget situations. Communication with departments and administration about budget management and related changes to collections can be crucial to maintain constructive relationships and to improve cooperative planning. Academic libraries often rely on librarian liaisons to communicate directly with departments, but additional communication efforts are sometimes pursued. Libraries could learn from one another by sharing their communication strategies, tools, and methods. Our library has recently focused on collections communication across a range of projects and audiences. These projects have included a budget reduction plan and major print deselection project, as well as ongoing, prospective budget management. The …

Exploring Psychological Empowerment Among Hiv Support Groups, Harit Agroia, Leyla Mousli, Rock Braithwaite, Silvia Boron, Rene Padilla
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
Support groups can provide members with space to discuss life issues, foster a sense of community, and promote connections with others. For people living with HIV, support groups can improve knowledge and awareness of tools and resources for HIV management, reduce stigma, improve social competence, and overall health. Studies that have connected empowerment and support group structures in populations with HIV have found promising results; however, a dearth of research demonstrates how applying theoretical frameworks can improve understanding of factors that increase empowerment among support group participants. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to apply the Psychological Empowerment Theory …

Quality Improvement Project: Improving Patient Appointment Adherence Through Staff Education On Health Literacy, Christine A. Johnson- Nganbou Kamkeu
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Non-adherence to appointments remains an impediment to health continuity. It has been especially pervasive in rural settings. Numerous scholarly articles in the healthcare literature support enhancing health literacy in organizations and training in effective communication to promote patient appointment compliance. Hence, the purpose of the quality improvement (QI) project was not only to encourage appointment compliance but also to enhance the application of the Teach-Back Method through health literacy education. The theoretical perspective and practice application, according to Lewin’s Change Theory and the PDSA approach, included a four-week intervention period, during which the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) …
Quality Improvement Project: Responding Effectively With The Use Of A Defibrillator And Crash Cart: An Educational Intervention For Medical-Surgical Nurses, Josilyn Lusk
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Appropriate and timely use of a defibrillator and crash cart is essential for patient survival during cardiac arrest, yet many medical-surgical nurses report limited preparedness due to inconsistent, non-standardized training. The purpose of this DNP project is to evaluate the impact of a structured didactic and simulation-based educational intervention on nurses’ self-assessed preparedness to respond to life-threatening events and their perceptions of educational best practices. The aim of the project is to demonstrate measurable improvements in nurses’ self-reported preparedness in responding to emergent events and their perceptions of effective teaching and learning strategies. Guided by Tanner’s Model of Clinical Judgment …
Enhancing Emergency Department Staff Competency In Ultrasound-Guided Venous Access At A Rural Critical Access Hospital: A Quality Improvement Project, Ryan M. Sand
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Patients meeting difficult intravenous access (DIVA) criteria often experience multiple failed intravenous (IV) access attempts, delayed diagnostics, and treatment initiation, particularly in rural emergency departments with limited resources. This quality improvement (QI) project evaluated whether targeted ultrasound-guided peripheral venous access training would improve staff self-efficacy, confidence, and self-reported procedural execution at a rural critical access hospital. Guided by Lewin’s Change Theory and Benner’s Novice to Expert Theory, a quasi-experimental pre-/post-intervention design was implemented. Nurses and paramedics completed the validated Peripheral Intravenous Insertion Confidence Assessment before and after a didactic and psychomotor training program. Statistical analysis included an independent samples t-test …
Quality Improvement Project Assessment Of Emergency Department Staff Knowledge On Use Of Emergency Severity Index In A Critical Access Hospital: Implementation Of Emergency Department-Based Education Program., Amanda Taylor
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
In rural emergency departments, accurate triage is vital to ensuring patient safety and maximizing limited resources. This quality improvement project aimed to strengthen triage practices by enhancing nurses’ understanding and confidence in using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI), a standardized tool for assessing patient acuity. Ten registered nurses at a seven-bed critical access hospital participated in a structured educational program, guided by Lewin’s Change Theory and Benner’s Novice to Expert Theory. The intervention included hands-on training, real-world scenarios, and self-assessment surveys. After the program, nurses showed significant gains in both knowledge (mean scores rose from 70.0 to 88.9, p < .001) and confidence (from 13.5 to 23.2 out of 25). While the small sample size and short timeline were limitations, the results highlight the value of ongoing education in improving triage accuracy and patient care. This project offers a practical model for rural hospitals seeking to enhance emergency nursing practice and promote consistent, evidence-based decision-making.

Face Card Declined: The Deepfake Threat To Biometric Security In Financial Systems, Hazel Fernandez
Face Card Declined: The Deepfake Threat To Biometric Security In Financial Systems, Hazel Fernandez
Washington and Lee Law Review Online
Once limited to entertainment and disinformation, deepfakes are now extending into the financial sector, where voice and facial impersonations exploit biometric authentication systems to facilitate fraudulent transactions. This evolution exposes gaps in existing legal and regulatory frameworks, raising critical questions about consumer protection and institutional safeguards. This Note argues for a reconceptualization of deepfake harms as both a privacy and a financial security issue. It examines the illusion of consent generated by synthetic impersonation and insufficient statutory protections. The analysis examines the patchwork of federal, state, and international laws governing data privacy and artificial media, highlighting the gaps that allow …

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, with risk heightened in premenopausal women with obesity or use estrogen-based oral contraceptives. When both risk factors are present, the thrombosis risk increases substantially. Protein S (PS), an essential anticoagulant cofactor, is downregulated by both estrogen and obesity, but the molecular basis for this suppression remains poorly defined. We investigated the effect of estrogen and obesity on PS expression using plasma samples from 157 women stratified by BMI and contraceptive use, alongside 40 mice categorized as lean or obese with or without estrogen pellet treatment. The levels of PS …

Earth and Environmental Geosciences Faculty Research
Details of the Late Jurassic tectonic evolution of the North American continental margin remain controversial, but a clear understanding of Late Jurassic tectonics is essential for understanding subsequent terrane accretion and displacement. Upper Jurassic strata of the Galice Formation in the western Klamath Mountains province and the Mariposa Formation in the Western Sierra Nevada metamorphic province were deposited along the margin of North America during this critical time. The Galice and Mariposa Formations have long been correlated, and these strata are the youngest rocks deformed during Late Jurassic Nevadan deformation in Oregon and California. Published and new detrital zircon age …

Radiation Hardness Study Of Finfet And Gate-All-Around Fet Sram, Albert Lu
Radiation Hardness Study Of Finfet And Gate-All-Around Fet Sram, Albert Lu
Master's Theses
Radiation, such as alpha particles or neutrons, is hard to control and can come from sources such as trace impurities or cosmic rays from space. These can then strike a semiconductor device, such as a Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) cell, and cause the SRAM to have its bit flipped. This bit flip is often just a temporary effect and is thus called a single event upset (SEU). Although it is temporary, a bit flip can cause severe consequences, such as affecting program functionality by causing incorrect data to be used. This is made worse in critical environments that need …
