Measles is one of the main causes of global mortality in the under-fives. The existence of groups that reject immunization caused a decrease in immunization coverage. Anti-vaccine messages are widely delivered on social media. Identification of vaccine rejection behavior can be used as the basis to formulate effective program strategies. The design of this study used rapid assessment procedures (RAP). The informants were from two anti-vaccine communities in the Facebook group. In-depth interviews and observations were done for data collection, and data analysis was performed using the Framework Method. The results found that determinants, such as knowledge, beliefs in health …

Seventh Edition Of Apa Style: A Foundation For Advocacy In Counseling, K. Elizabeth Mcdonald, Amber Cook
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
Counselors-in-training are asked to write in a professional voice using APA style but rarely make the connection between the writing style and therapeutic or advocacy work. While the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Publication Manual presents didactic rules on form and style, it is not intended to provide professional context for the purpose of the adoption of the style. This manuscript draws parallels between the seventh edition of APA’s writing style and the four domains outlined in the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (Ratts et al., 2015) and concludes with a concise writing resource.

Preparing Cacrep-Accredited Doctoral Students To Teach, Meredith Lt Montgomery, Mei Tang
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
Counselor education literature addresses training of future counselors although little is known about the preparation of doctoral students as teachers. This qualitative thematic analysis utilizes a Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) theoretical framework and a Contextualism philosophical framework to answer the question: How are doctoral students in CACREP-accredited doctoral programs prepared to teach? Faculty (n=6) and students (n=10) from ten CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) programs across the United States participated. A narrative description of the process of preparing doctoral students to teach is based on three identified themes: relationship, pedagogy, and effort. Implications include a need for stewardship of …

Is This What Counselors Are? Conflict Stories In Multicultural Coursework, Lauren Melamed
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
Classroom-based conversations about multicultural issues can be difficult, ranging with various degrees of tension that span between affective stress to full on turbulent emotional exchanges. The purpose of this narrative inquiry was to better understand the student perspective of conflict in the classroom. Understanding conflict stories are imperative for the training of professional counselors bound to both cultural competency and professional growth. Findings reveal both content and structure of students’ conflict stories in multicultural counseling classes as they navigate the tasks of professional identity development. Themes of gatekeeping and collective accountability emerged, in addition to transformation and meaning-making.

Attitudes And Action: Social Tolerance And Legal Coercion Towards Those Suffering From Schizophrenia, Fred A. Washburn, Meaghan C. Nolte
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
This study examines stigma towards those suffering from schizophrenia on two levels: social tolerance and support for legal coercion. Recent research has found that counselors are more tolerant towards those suffering from schizophrenia than the general population (Smith & Cashwell, 2010; Smith & Cashwell, 2011; Crowe & Averett, 2015; Crowe et al., 2016). These studies have not examined support for legal coercion. Findings from this study indicate that counseling students have greater levels of social tolerance than undergraduates in other educational programs, there were no differences in social tolerance for counseling students when compared to other graduate students. No significant …
Ease Of Figure Reversal And Creativity, Blessing Arthur
Ease Of Figure Reversal And Creativity, Blessing Arthur
2021 Honors Council of the Illinois Region
In Honors Psychology, I studied Figure reversals and perception. This concept intrigued me and was the reason I decided to do a research project on our ability to reverse figures based on our creativity. A study was conducted to determine the relationship between self-reported and measured creativity in the ease of figure reversal. Divergent thinking involves the thought process of generating creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. J.P. Guilford proposed that creativity could be studied objectively and attempted to prove this through the Guilford’s Alternative Uses Task. The Alternative Uses Task involves asking a question that requires the individual …

How The Change In Presidency Affected The Venezuelan Economic Crisis, Alexandria Schweikle
2021 Honors Council of the Illinois Region
For my project, I conducted research to investigate how the change in presidency from Hugo Chávez to Nicolás Maduro affected the current economic crisis in Venezuela. My major goals were to build on the skills I have learned in my past honors classes and to examine the economic and political actions that have led to the worsening economic situation in Venezuela. To complete my project, I first formulated a research question about my desired topic that was broad enough to find articles but narrow enough so that there were only a few articles containing the information I wanted. Next, I …

Improved Boreal Forest Wildfire Fuel Type Mapping In Interior Alaska Using Aviris-Ng Hyperspectral Data, Christopher William Smith, Santosh K. Panda, Uma Suren Bhatt, Franz J. Meyer
Aspen Bibliography
In Alaska the current wildfire fuel map products were generated from low spatial (30 m) and spectral resolution (11 bands) Landsat 8 satellite imagery which resulted in map products that not only lack the granularity but also have insufficient accuracy to be effective in fire and fuel management at a local scale. In this study we used higher spatial and spectral resolution AVIRIS-NG hyperspectral data (acquired as part of the NASA ABoVE project campaign) to generate boreal forest vegetation and fire fuel maps. Based on our field plot data, random forest classified images derived from 304 AVIRIS-NG bands at Viereck …

Preserving Issues For Appeal In The Nevada State District Courts Under Nevada's New 2019 Rules Of Civil Procedure, Micah Echols, Tom Stewart
Nevada Law Journal Forum
Practicing attorneys are aware of the age-old rule of appellate practice that new issues cannot be raised for the first time on appeal. But, how are these issues properly raised, and preserved, in the district courts so that they are preserved for an appeal before the Nevada Court of Appeals or the Nevada Supreme Court? This article provides guiding principles based upon Nevada case law and the newly-revised 2019 Nevada Rules of Civil Procedure to answer these questions on preserving error for an appeal in Nevada’s state courts.

BACKGROUND: Although tube feeding routinely saves the lives of children who do not eat by mouth, chronic tube feeding can be a burden to patients, caregivers, and families. Very few randomized trials exist regarding the best methods for weaning children from their feeding tubes.
METHODS: The current paper describes a randomized controlled trial of an empirically supported outpatient treatment protocol for moving children from tube to oral eating called iKanEat. Specifically, we describe the methods of randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial which includes a 4-week course of megestrol, the only medication used in the iKanEat protocol, to determine whether the addition …

Short-Term Institutions, Analyst Recommendations, And Mispricing: The Role Of Higher Order Beliefs, Martijn Cremers, Ankur Pareek, Zacharias Sautner
Department of Finance Faculty Research
We document that stocks that have optimistic (pessimistic) consensus recommendations and are currently held by many short-term institutions exhibit large stock-return reversals: Their large past outperformance (underperformance) is followed by large negative (positive) future alphas. The predictable return reversals originate from overreaction to past recommendation releases and the correction of these overreactions around future releases. Results are stronger when earnings news is released and at firms with higher fundamental uncertainty. Further, firms with more short-term institutions show stronger announcement returns and price drift after recommendation changes. Our results are consistent with models of higher order beliefs where short-term institutions coordinate …

Bibliometrics is a relatively novel statistical branch investigating academic publications in a certain field.
