Colorectal Cancer Screening In Saudi Arabia: Current Challenges And Future Directions, Abdulrahman A. Aljabri, Abdulrahman G. Alharbi

Saudi Medical Journal

Colorectal cancer has become a major public health concern in Saudi Arabia. It is the most prevalent cancer among men and the third most prevalent among women. Although screening for people aged 45-75 is recommended by national recommendations, screening uptake is still below 10%, and less than 1% of older persons have a colonoscopy. With regional differences that vary from age-standardized rates of 3.2 per 100,000 in Jouf to 21.8 per 100,000 in Riyadh among men, approximately 29% of cases are detected at late stages. Therefore, we assessed the epidemiological, social, and health-related systemic structures preventing effective colorectal cancer screening …

Staff Education To Enhance Nursing Knowledge Of Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection Prevention Bundles On A Solid Organ Transplant Unit, Amina Cole-Kangbai

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

I conducted this staff education quality improvement project to develop and implement an education program addressing nurses’ knowledge gaps on evidence-based, central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) prevention bundles on a solid organ transplant unit. CLABSIs are preventable infections disproportionately affecting immunocompromised transplant patients, increasing morbidity, mortality, and costs. Addressing this issue is critical because nurses provide frontline central line care, and their knowledge directly influences patient safety.

Staff Education Project To Improve Hypertension Medication Adherence In An Underserved Clinic, Margaret Mboe Etukeni

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Hypertension is one of the most common chronic conditions managed in primary care. The identified practice problem for this staff education project was the lack of structured staff training and inconsistent provider knowledge regarding evidence-based strategies to improve medication adherence among patients with hypertension. Poor medication contributes to preventable complications such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease. The purpose was to evaluate if an educational intervention could improve provider knowledge related to medication adherence strategies in an underserved clinical setting. The practice question guiding the project was: In clinical staff working in an underserved clinic, does a staff education …

Statistical Guarantees Of Deep Generative Models Involving Diverse Spaces: Generation Consistency And Robustness, Anish Chakrabarty Feb 2026

Statistical Guarantees Of Deep Generative Models Involving Diverse Spaces: Generation Consistency And Robustness, Anish Chakrabarty

Doctoral Theses

Generative modeling focuses on the task of producing new data samples that closely resemble those drawn from an original, unknown distribution. Despite being well-known in statistical estimation theory, the approach has gained substantial traction in recent years, driven by groundbreaking results in areas such as image synthesis, natural language generation, and network modeling. The complexity of modern-era data domains and the ensuing adaptations that suitable models must undergo have presented new challenges. These advances raise several fundamental questions, the first of which is: When do generative models accurately approximate the true data distribution? One may also ask: How well do …

On Robust Estimation Of Multivariate Location And Scale With Applications, Soumya Chakraborty Feb 2026

On Robust Estimation Of Multivariate Location And Scale With Applications, Soumya Chakraborty

Doctoral Theses

The principal objective of this thesis is, in a nutshell, to provide robust estimators of multivariate location and scale which have reasonable to high model efficiency but avoid high computational complexity so as to be practically useful in real problems. We utilize the minimum density power divergence (DPD) and the related philosophy to invoke robustness. There are some computational issues while minimizing the DPD in different multivariate set-ups. We will work on this problem rigorously and come up with three types of estimation procedures which are explicitly or implicitly related to the minimum DPD methodology, keeping the computational issue in …

Ethical Constraint-Based Mpc With Adaptive Weight Scheduling For Autonomous Vehicles In Diverse Scenarios, Hend Mohammed Aafia` Feb 2026

Ethical Constraint-Based Mpc With Adaptive Weight Scheduling For Autonomous Vehicles In Diverse Scenarios, Hend Mohammed Aafia`

Theses and Dissertations

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are increasingly deployed in complex and safety-critical environments, raising fundamental questions about how ethical principles should be operationalized within real-time control systems. While existing research has extensively addressed ethical decision-making at the planning and behavioral layers, ethical intent is commonly translated into predefined trajectories and delegated to low-level controllers under the assumption of safe execution. This separation introduces a critical gap between ethical reasoning and physical feasibility, particularly in scenarios involving nonlinear vehicle dynamics, actuation limits, constrained perception horizons, and time-critical interactions with vulnerable road users. This thesis proposes an Ethical Model Predictive Control (E-MPC) framework that …

Tiny Patients, Big Bleeds: Txa Use In Pediatric Non-Trauma Hemostasis, Hannah Lee, Lisa Herbinger

Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing

Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a synthetic antifibrinolytic agent that inhibits fibrinolysis without promoting new clot formation. Although FDA-approved for limited indications, TXA is frequently used off-label to reduce perioperative blood loss. Its use is well established in adult populations; however, pediatric data remain limited. Available evidence demonstrates that TXA effectively decreases intraoperative blood loss and transfusion requirements. This case involves an 8-year-old female with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome undergoing a right hip triple osteotomy with spica casting. The patient had a history of significant surgical blood loss resulting in hypotension and transfusion. Given the history, TXA was incorporated into the anesthetic plan, …

Foundation models have emerged as powerful feature extractors in computational pathology. However, they typically omit mechanisms for leveraging the global spatial structure of tissues and the local contextual relationships among diagnostically relevant regions-key elements for understanding the tumor microenvironment. Multiple instance learning (MIL) remains an essential next step following the foundation model, designing a framework to aggregate patch-level features into slide-level predictions. We present EAGLE-Net, a structure-preserving, attention-guided MIL architecture designed to augment prediction and interpretability. EAGLE-Net integrates multi-scale absolute spatial encoding to capture global tissue architecture, a top-K neighborhood-aware loss to focus attention on local microenvironments, and background suppression …
