Nurse Driven Intervention To Address Cesarean Section Rates, Cavetta Tulloch-Lewis Apr 2026

Nurse Driven Intervention To Address Cesarean Section Rates, Cavetta Tulloch-Lewis

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Translational and Clinical Research Projects

Abstract

Cesarean sections (C-sections) account for approximately one-third of births in the United States and remain the most common inpatient surgical procedure. Primary cesarean sections are a major contributor to rising rates, often leading to repeat cesareans in subsequent pregnancies. While medically necessary C-sections are lifesaving, their overuse in low-risk pregnancies is associated with increased maternal morbidity. Labor dystocia is one of the leading indications for primary cesarean delivery and may be mitigated through evidence-based, nurse-driven interventions such as maternal positioning and peanut ball utilization. Registered nurses are uniquely positioned to influence labor progression and promote vaginal birth through continuous …

Exposure To Manganese During Juvenile Development Increases Microglial Activation In The Hippocampus Following Systemic Infection With A/California/04/2009 Influenza A H1n1 Virus, Megan Hager, Adam Schuller, Omar Yanouri, Collin Bantle, Richard Smeyne, Ronald Tjalkens

Farber Institute for Neuroscience Faculty Papers

Up to 80% of patients with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) develop dementia within 20 years of diagnosis. Although the etiology of PD and related neurodegenerative disorders is poorly understood, risk factors including environmental toxicants and viral infections are linked to disease onset and progression. Exposure to high doses of the essential element, manganese (Mn), causes neurotoxicity associated with parkinsonian symptoms and cognitive impairment in humans. Additionally, epidemiologic studies indicate that viral infections increase risk of developing PD. Previously, our lab demonstrated that mice exposed to Mn during juvenile development showed greater neuroinflammatory changes in microglia within the substantia nigra following systemic …

The Inequity Of Elective Shares In Second Marriages, Cynthia Li Apr 2026

The Inequity Of Elective Shares In Second Marriages, Cynthia Li

Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights and Social Justice (ERSJ) Blog

Elective share statutes, the modern successors to the historical doctrines of dower and curtesy, serve as a vital legal safety net designed to prevent a decedent from intentionally disinheriting a surviving spouse. By forcing the decedent’s estate to distribute a specific share to a spouse who has been omitted from a will, these statutes protect against the rise of non-probate transfers and inter vivos gifts that might otherwise leave a survivor destitute.   Since 1990, the Uniform Probate Code (UPC) has grounded this protection in a “partnership theory” of marriage, which posits that spouses contribute to an economic partnership through both …

Historians For Hire: Evaluating Historian Expert Witnesses After Bruen, Jake Mcauliffe Apr 2026

Historians For Hire: Evaluating Historian Expert Witnesses After Bruen, Jake Mcauliffe

Duke Law Journal

The Supreme Court in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen introduced a history-and-tradition test for Second Amendment challenges, directing courts to compare modern firearm regulations to past ones. To conduct this historical inquiry, litigants and judges have increasingly turned to professional historians as expert witnesses. This Note qualitatively examines how historian experts are used and received in post-Bruen federal litigation. It finds that a small group of repeat players—sixteen historians—make up this emerging field, typically appearing exclusively for either challengers or governments. These historians serve primarily in civil litigation, leaving a relative expertise gap in criminal cases, …

From Street Level To Science: Advancing Methods For Climate Walks To Improve Human Thermal Comfort, Kevin Lau, Cho Kwong Charlie Lam, Eduardo Krüger, André Santos Nouri, Zhikai Peng, Daniele Santucci, Andreas Matzarakis

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Urban heat risk is increasing, while fixed monitoring networks remain too sparse and coarse to resolve the pedestrian-scale variability, especially radiative loads, that governs outdoor thermal stress. This short communication advances the concept of climate walks, defined as route-based, human-centred field campaigns that build on earlier work on “thermal walks”, and presents them as a practice-ready methodology for design-relevant evidence. We define climate walks as structured, route-based, georeferenced assessments that pair high-resolution mobile microclimate measurements with synchronous in-situ human responses to capture transient, spatially heterogeneous conditions along actual walks. We synthesize key methodological features, such as dynamic, stop-and-go protocols; human-centred …
