Systems and methods are provided herein for determining areas of low blood flow, low blood perfusion, suboptimal treatment perfusion, and/or likelihood of tumor recurrence. For example patient-specific methods are provided for identifying areas of low perfusion in an anatomy of interest (such as a vascular region). Angiography data corresponding to the anatomy of interest can be used to generate a modified three-dimensional (3D) model of the anatomy of interest, which represents a fluid flow system exhibiting variant flow patterns. The model can take into account patient-specific data to simulate physical characteristics of the fluid flow system. This provides for accurate …

Choice Of Animal Models To Investigate Cell Migration And Invasion In Glioblastoma., Piyanka Hettiarachchi, Taeju Park

Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers

Glioblastoma is an aggressive and prevalent form of brain cancer characterized by rapid tumor cell migration and invasion into surrounding healthy tissues, making it resistant to conventional treatments. Despite advances in therapeutic approaches, patient prognosis remains poor, with a median survival of approximately 15 months. Tumor cell infiltration along perivascular spaces and white matter tracts is a major driver of recurrence, underscoring the need for experimental models that accurately capture these invasive behaviors. Animal models remain indispensable for this purpose, offering insights that cannot be fully replicated in vitro. This review focuses on applying animal models to elucidate the mechanisms …

Resistance And Adaptation: How Religion Survived A War, Iris Mascio Aug 2025

Resistance And Adaptation: How Religion Survived A War, Iris Mascio

History Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity

This paper investigates the survival strategies employed by Bosnian Muslims during the civil wars of the 1990s, with a focus on how these strategies influenced the practice and evolution of Bosnian Islam. Drawing on primary and secondary sources, survivor interviews, and analyses of religious and social practices, the study identifies two key modes of response: adaptation and resistance. While resistance—including underground organizing, covert publications, and occasional armed defense—played a role during periods of extreme threat, it was primarily historical patterns of adaptation that enabled long-term survival and continuity. Therefore, the paper covers the challenges encountered and survival strategies used by …

The Problem Of Market Power In Postwar America: Antitrust Law, Regulatory Discourse, And Changing Ideas Of Market Power, Laura Phillips-Sawyer Aug 2025

The Problem Of Market Power In Postwar America: Antitrust Law, Regulatory Discourse, And Changing Ideas Of Market Power, Laura Phillips-Sawyer

Scholarly Works

US antitrust law prohibits anticompetitive restraints of trade, including collusion among firms and single-firm monopolization. The law serves as a democratic check against concentrations of private economic power. However, in the post-World War II era, the law has changed largely through case law, rather than through statutory interventions. Thus, understanding the role that antitrust law has played in reconciling capitalism and democracy requires us to ask what has influenced changes to antitrust law. This chapter traces antitrust law’s postwar development across three key periods: 1940–1970s, mid-1970s to 2010s, and 2010s to present. It argues that each era’s approach to the …

The Role Of Recruited Adipose Stromal Cells And Their Fibroblastic Differentiation In Cancer, Lingyi Cai, Mikhail G Kolonin, Dimitris Anastassiou

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Adipose stromal cells (ASCs) are perivascular mesenchymal progenitors of adipose tissue. In cancer patients, ASCs can mobilize and migrate to the tumor, where they subsequently play an important role in cancer progression. This biological process involves the conversion of recruited ASCs into cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). ASC-derived CAFs influence the tumor microenvironment through extracellular matrix remodeling, vascularization, and immunomodulation. These and other processes mediated by secreted paracrine factors also affect gene expression in carcinoma cells to promote the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), metabolic adaptation, survival, and invasiveness of cancer cells. ASC-derived CAFs can enhance tumor aggressiveness, accounting in part for the link …

Automated Raft Polymerization Using Batch, Increment, And Continuous Addition Modes To Enhance Properties Of Fluorescent Polymers, Sophia Beilharz, Konpal Raheja, Metin Karayilan

Faculty Scholarship

We report an automated RAFT copolymerization strategy using a Chemspeed robotic platform capable of executing batch, incremental, and continuous monomer addition workflows under inert conditions. Copolymerizations of oligo(ethylene glycol) acrylate with fluorescein o-acrylate were performed in different solvents with reaction kinetics monitored via time-resolved1 H NMR spectroscopy. Continuous addition reactions conducted at rates from 0.3 to 1.0 mL/hr enabled compositional tuning and control over monomer sequence. This automated workflow has a potential to provide a high-throughput platform for polymer design, kinetic profiling, and material property optimization with minimal manual intervention.

Reforming The Indian Bar: The Limits Of Technological Solutions, Varsha Aithala, Karthik Suresh

Articles

A majority of Indians do not have effective access to legal services, despite the constitutional promise of access to justice. There are two intertwined reasons for this: the unavailability of a sufficient number of good quality lawyers, and the high costs of accessing legal services. The Indian legal profession is highly unequal, with ‘prestige’ being the currency of upward professional mobility. The professional regulator, the Bar Council of India, simply lacks the capacity to regulate quality. As a consequence, clients lack the information to access lawyers, and to understand the outcomes they desire from them, and the fees they have …

Defrnd: Detergent-Free Reconstitution Into Native Nanodiscs With Designer Membrane Scaffold Peptides, Qian Ren, Vinay Idikuda, Baron Chanda, Et Al.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Membrane scaffold protein-based nanodiscs have facilitated unprecedented structural and biophysical analysis of membrane proteins in a near-native lipid environment. However, successful reconstitution of membrane proteins in nanodiscs requires prior solubilization and purification in detergents, which may impact their physiological structure and function. Furthermore, the detergent-mediated reconstitution of nanodiscs is unlikely to recapitulate the precise composition or asymmetry of native membranes. To circumvent this fundamental limitation of traditional nanodisc technology, we herein describe the development of membrane-solubilizing peptides to directly extract membrane proteins from native cell membranes into nanoscale discoids. By systematically protein engineering and screening, we create a class of …
