Purpose: The conventional assumption that P values ≤ 0.05 imply reproducible effects has come under recent criticism. This concern is particularly relevant in oncology, as phase III oncology trials, which directly inform practice, are usually not repeated. Using advanced modeling techniques, we investigated the relationship between P values and reproducibility in oncology.
Methods: We obtained the signal-to-noise ratio distribution in phase III oncology using outcomes from 632 two-arm superiority trials enrolling 496,219 patients. With this distribution, we estimated successful replication probability as the probability that a replicate trial, having the same design, effect size, and standard error, would have a …

Cloud‐to‐ground (CG) lightning is a major source of summer wildfire ignition in the western United States (WUS). However, future projections of lightning are uncertain since lightning is not directly simulated by most global climate models. To address this issue, we use convolutional neural network (CNN)‐based parameterizations of daily June‐September CG lightning. CNN parameterizations of daily CG lightning occurrence at each grid cell use fields of three thermodynamic variables—ratio of surface Moist Static Energy (MSE) to 500 hPa saturation MSE, 700–500 hPa lapse rate, and 500 hPa relative humidity. Applying these parameterizations to the Community Earth System Model version 2 Large …
Exploring The Moderating Effect Of Boundary Management Strategy In A Remote Work Environment, Brandon M. Vasquez
Exploring The Moderating Effect Of Boundary Management Strategy In A Remote Work Environment, Brandon M. Vasquez
Master's Theses
Remote work has evolved significantly, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and continues to influence employee experiences in both positive and negative ways. Managing the separation between work and personal life is of importance. More specifically, using a boundary management strategy of segmentation may be more effective than an integration strategy because those who separate the two domains of work and family/personal life may be less prone to conflict in their lives. The present study aimed to examine the moderating effect of boundary management strategy on the relationship between remote work and job satisfaction, work-life balance, and well-being. Specifically, it was …

Osteosarcoma is a type of bone cancer that mostly affects kids and teens. The biggest danger is when the cancer spreads to the lungs, and current treatments do not work well for those cases. Immunotherapy, which helps the body’s immune system fight cancer, has worked for other cancers but is limited for osteosarcoma because we do not fully understand the environment around the tumor. Our research looked at various cells around the tumor to study why patients have worse outcomes. We found that certain cells, called M2 macrophages (M2) and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC), which weaken the immune system, are …

The Nucleocapsid protein (N) of SARS-CoV-2 plays a critical role in the viral lifecycle by regulating RNA replication and by packaging the viral genome. N and RNA phase separate to form condensates that may be important for these functions. Both functions occur at membrane surfaces, but how N toggles between these two membrane-associated functional states is unclear. Here, we reveal that phosphorylation switches how N condensates interact with membranes, in part by modulating condensate material properties. Our studies also show that phosphorylation alters N's interaction with viral membrane proteins. We gain mechanistic insight through structural analysis and molecular simulations, which …

Orchestrating Brilliance In The Recording Studio: Mixing Music To Record Music, Adrian Carroll
Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
This paper is a report on a heuristic inquiry into music recording practice and workflow to arrive at the essence of experience. Through professional reflection on a music recording, we investigated the recording process and student experience; this was used to identify, explore and expose tacit professional practice. The central theme that unfolded revealed benefits in mixing music during a recording session. Other themes of workflow efficiency, and emotional expression, also emerged from the data collection. The research culminated in a creative synthesis in the form of a research question: Can live studio recordings be a viable option for artists, …

Bodies That Sparkle And Spill: A Poetics Of The Burlesque Parent, Lola Montgomery
Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
The embodied experiences of burlesque performers during motherhood are explored in an online discussion, through femme theory, Bakhtin's grotesque body, and Butler's gender performativity. The participants' bodies are explored as sites of contestation, able to perform diverse roles simultaneously. Through performance, Mulvey's masculine gaze is inverted into a poetics of feminine praxis.

Combining Organizational Assessment And Evidence-Based Strategies To Address Incivility In Nursing, Guillaume Ngonmeudje
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
The workplace environment in healthcare is complex and negatively influenced by an increasing pattern of incivility. Recent reports of the increasing prevalence of incivility and related disruptive behaviors within nursing academic and clinical settings are alarming. Incivility threatens the sense of belonging needed to support and nurture the development of nursing students in the profession, and significantly impacts the work performance of front-line healthcare workers, contributing to medical errors and poor patient outcomes (Patel et al., 2022). Nurses and nursing students must be well equipped to effectively address incivility in the workplace and promote the collaboration necessary to optimize patient …

A Warm Welcome: Creating A Welcoming Environment For Nursing Student Clinicals Using A 3t Approach, Jeanine E. Gangeness, Sarah Heim, Linnea Benike
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background: Establishing a welcoming clinical learning environment for nursing students is important as it has been shown to positively impact student learning, sense of security and belonging, recruitment, and development of professional caring behaviors. The first clinical day is often riddled with anxiety for nursing students. Clinical units today have higher acuity patients, staff nurses with fewer years of experience, and rapid adoption of new technologies and processes when compared to the past. These factors necessitate a renewed approach to how nursing students are introduced to clinical care. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to explore the impact …

Overcoming Toxic Positivity: Leadership Strategies For Promoting Healthy Nursing Work Environments, Hannah Grace Shipp, Katherine Christine Hall
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
In the post-COVID-19 landscape, many nurses report feeling abandoned (5), undervalued (6), and inadequately supported (2,3). As such, it is incumbent for organizational leaders to take action to support nursing staff and implement strategies that foster healthy work environments and promote nurses’ well-being. A potentially overlooked contributing factor is toxic positivity. While this phenomenon appears to be present in nursing, it remains underexplored. The purpose of this presentation is: (a) to provide an overview of the concept of toxic positivity, (b) to explore its potential impacts on patient care outcomes, and (c) to discuss strategies nurse leaders can employ to …

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background/Significance: Although the influence of leadership style on empowerment and job satisfaction of the workforce has been documented, there are few researchers who examined the influence of the leader’s experience in developing not only their own leadership skills in the creation and sustainment of healthy work environments but to engage and “train up” the development of our future nurse leaders. The current nursing workforce is struggling with engagement and retention and the lack of interest in leadership in the emerging generations.
The empirical evidence supports of the creation of the healthy work environment whether it is a Magnet designated facility …

Background: Approximately three million nurses report to work daily across the United States (Alexander et al., 2021). Despite this number, there is a critical nursing shortage that must be addressed (Bong, 2019). Nurses work in a high-demand profession that affects their ability to acquire or conserve resources to stay engaged and avoid burnout (Contreras et al., 2020; Paustian-Underdahl et al., 2023). Healthcare organizations must focus on retaining nurses by providing them with resources and tools to be engaged and provide quality care (Bong, 2019; Contreras et al., 2020; Othman & Nasurdin, 2019).
