Study On Determination Of Optimal Parameters For Shewhart Control Charts And Other Related Methodologies, Sandeep .
Doctoral Theses
Taguchi’s on-line quality control methods attach importance to the reduction of variation of a quality characteristic about an engineering target. The quality characteristic can be nominal-the-best, higher-the-better, or lower-the-better. He introduced the concept of the loss function. The loss incurred to society is impacted by the variation or deviation from the target. The optimal sampling interval advocated by Taguchi in this context is important. However, Taguchi didn’t consider certain parameters like the rate of production, loss incurred due to false alarms, loss incurred due to non-detection of process abnormalities. In our prescribed methodology, these parameters have been considered along with …

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations
A mathematical task rooted in social and/or political contexts has the potential to engage students in exploring their own real-ities and learning about the realities of others while building their mathematical knowledge. While there are planning and in-structional practices recommended for these types of tasks, no single practice can fully capture the nuances and challenges thatteachers might encounter. Therefore, this study identified dilemmas encountered by a team of mathematics education research-ers while planning a mathematical task rooted in social and/or political contexts. Using qualitative analysis, the researchersidentified three planning dilemmas: (a) what social and/or political goal to establish, (b) how …

Debt Accumulation In Fossil Fuel-Reliant Localities During The Shale Boom And Implications For The Energy Transition, Brandon Charles
Debt Accumulation In Fossil Fuel-Reliant Localities During The Shale Boom And Implications For The Energy Transition, Brandon Charles
Center for Policy Research
The energy transition away from fossil fuels poses long-term economic risks for communities reliant on oil and natural gas production and some may face exceptionally difficult challenges in adapting to the change. Bonds issued by these localities during the shale boom may undermine their financial resilience as shale activity dwindles. Declining tax revenue may undermine their ability to service the debt and maintain the associated physical assets. This study addresses the extent to which local governments in oil- and natural gas-producing communities accumulated significantly more municipal debt during the shale boom than other communities. The analysis uses bond issuance data …

This study highlights that understanding how faculty adopt technology requires integrated theoretical frameworks rather than the single-theory models often seen in current research. Faculty responses to disruptive technologies, such as generative AI (GenAI), involve complex psychological processes that are frequently overlooked by traditional models. To address this, we developed the Mediated Message Model (MMM) by combining communication theory, behavioral prediction, and motivational psychology, targeting four gaps: fragmented focus, lack of contextual sensitivity, limited process understanding, and constraints. We utilized this framework to design and evaluate a faculty development program featuring a book club format, involving fifty-six faculty members across two …
Beyond Personal Responsibility: Government Support For The Substantive Human Condition, Martha T. Mccluskey
Beyond Personal Responsibility: Government Support For The Substantive Human Condition, Martha T. Mccluskey
Contributions to Books
Government protection against systemic harm to human well-being is stymied by the liberal idea that power is most legitimately wielded by autonomous individuals taking personal responsibility for their substantive well-being. Instead, a robust vision of democracy and socioeconomic justice requires grounding legitimate power in institutional responsibility, replacing the formal individual actor of liberal theory with the universally embodied, embedded human subject developed in Martha Fineman’s Vulnerability Theory. This chapter connects the message of personal responsibility in neoliberal US welfare reform policies to rationales defending the government’s failure to alleviate systemic human harm in the 2008 financial crisis and the accelerating …
China Maritime Report #50: Foggy With A Chance Of Surprise Attack: Pla Amphibious Deception In A Taiwan Scenario, Ian Easton
CMSI China Maritime Reports
Main Findings
- The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) views deception as a force multiplier and war-winning weapon. The PLA leadership reserves a special place of veneration for wartime commanders who can employ deception to obtain surprise, something Xi Jinping refers to as “excelling at stratagem.”
- In January 1955, the PLA launched a surprise attack on the Yijiangshan islands, then controlled by the Republic of China (ROC) government in Taipei. This campaign remains a case study in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) for how to conduct amphibious operations and catch defenders off guard.
- Empirical historical research shows that amphibious operations, while …

Improving Staff Knowledge On Hourly Rounding Using The 4ps To Reduce The Fall Rate, Chukwuemeka Igboanugo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
I designed this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project to develop an educational program that increases staff knowledge of hourly rounding using an evidence-based approach, specifically pain, position, potty, and possession (the 4Ps), to prevent falls among residents in a long-term care facility. According to facility leadership, the observed gap in practice was the nursing staff members’ lack of knowledge in performing hourly rounding. The facility’s fall records for the lockdown units indicated a surge in fall rate, with 32 falls among 62 residents per month, reflecting a need for action. The practice-focused question guiding the project was: For staff …

Active Learning And Nclex-Rn Pass Rate On First Attempt In Bsn And Adn Programs, Janette Tingson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Failing the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt affects not only the students and their families but also nursing programs. To increase NCLEX-RN pass rates, nursing programs are shifting from traditional teaching to active learning in their aim to produce nursing graduates who will pass the NCLEX-RN exams on the first attempt. The purpose of this descriptive, correlational study, guided by theory of constructivism, was to determine if there is a relationship between faculty’s use of active learning strategies (ALS) and nursing students’ NCLEX-RN pass rates on the first attempt in bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) and associate degree in …
Robust Fault Detection And Classification In Power Systems Via Physics-Informed And Data-Driven Learning, Biswash Basnet, Varsha Sen
Robust Fault Detection And Classification In Power Systems Via Physics-Informed And Data-Driven Learning, Biswash Basnet, Varsha Sen
Graduate Student Scholarship
Electrical faults in power transmission systems can severely affect grid stability, equipment safety, and operational reliability. Traditional protection schemes, particularly distance relays, depend on apparent impedance computation that changes with error, creating a risk of misclassification. The results from relay overreach, underreach, or complete maloperation due to CT/PT saturation lead to developing problems in high impedance situations. These limitations highlight the need for adaptive, data-driven alternatives. This paper proposes an intelligent fault detection and classification model based on supervised machine learning techniques that overcome these challenges. The system’s robustness was validated under different training sizes and Gaussian noise levels, demonstrating …

In healthcare, maintaining both the accuracy and privacy of medical diagnoses collaboratively is a significant challenge. To the best of our knowledge, this research proposes the first end-to-end Privacy-Preserving Federated Transfer Learning (PPFTL) framework for 2-D ECG arrhythmia classification. Incorporating Transfer Learning (TL) narrows the gap between the encrypted and non-encrypted framework versions in the training step. It involves the transformation of raw Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals into 2-D ECG grayscale images. The dataset is disseminated after transformation to images and then fed as input into the local models, where MobileNetV2 serves as a feature extractor. The training process for each …

To support the best path among several paths, the network must choose the path with the best path to support Quality of Service (QoS), especially for real-time interactive video applications, such as distance learning and video conferencing. As long as the chosen routing protocol path is fixed by network topologies such as integrated services (ISs), which may not provide the highest possible performance. In addition, software-defined networking (SDN) intelligence with web-based real-time communications (WebRTC) can determine the most efficient data packet routing, which reduces latency and improves real-time communications.
