Context-Aware Adjustment Of Voice Characteristics For Artificial Intelligence Agents, Mahdi Tayarani Najaran, Ruofei Du
Defensive Publications Series
Traditional artificial intelligence agents, such as in smart eyewear typically utilize static voice profiles that do not account for the user's immediate environment or interaction history. This lack of context can result in auditory outputs that are disruptive in quiet settings or unintelligible in noisy surroundings and the overall experience. This disclosure describes a method for dynamically adjusting voice characteristics, such as volume, pitch, timbre, and directivity, based on real-time soundscape analysis and location history. Input is gathered from sensors to extract contextual cues, including environmental noise levels and the user's own vocal delivery. For instance, if a user whispers, …

Automated Generation Of Image Alternative Text Attribute Text, Vincent Rabaud, Francis Galligan
Defensive Publications Series
Web and document accessibility is frequently impeded by missing or low-quality alternative text (“alt text”), which is descriptive information attached to an image that screen readers use to describe the content to visually impaired users. This deficiency creates a significant barrier for users who depend on screen readers to interpret visual content on webpages. This disclosure describes a method whereby a web browser or document viewer utilizes a large language model to analyze the content of an image to be displayed, for example an image to be displayed in a document. If the image is not associated with alternative text …

Pyruvate Kinase M2: Function, Regulation And Targeting Therapeutics In Cancer, Nada M. Ali
Pyruvate Kinase M2: Function, Regulation And Targeting Therapeutics In Cancer, Nada M. Ali
University of Bisha Journal for Basic and Applied Sciences
Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is a pivotal enzyme in glycolysis, catalyzing the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) into pyruvate while generating ATP through substrate-level phosphorylation. Unlike other pyruvate kinase isoforms, PKM2 exhibits unique regulatory properties that allow it to switch between active tetrameric and less-active dimeric states, influencing both energy metabolism and biosynthetic pathways. PKM2 is widely expressed in tumors, where it plays a central role in metabolic reprogramming and cancer progression. Beyond its metabolic function, recent studies have identified non-canonical roles for PKM2, including its nuclear translocation and protein kinase activity, which influence gene expression, cell cycle regulation, and tumor …

Urban Sprawl And Residential Carbon Emissions: Evidence From Indonesia And The Philippines, Yi Jiang, Taylor Lathrop, Alexander D. Rothenberg, Yao Wang
Center for Policy Research
This paper studies how neighborhood density affects residential carbon emissions, using detailed data from Indonesia and the Philippines. To address simultaneity, we instrument density with soil characteristics, and to address sorting, we control for community averages of observed characteristics. Unlike cities in developed countries, we find that density is positively correlated with residential energy use. After controlling for sorting, we find a precise null relationship between density and residential carbon emissions. Our results suggest that policies to control urban sprawl may not be successful in reducing residential carbon emissions in developing country cities.
A Qualitative Study Of Medical Cannabis Policy For Multiple Sclerosis In Kansas And Colorado, Haydn Primrose
A Qualitative Study Of Medical Cannabis Policy For Multiple Sclerosis In Kansas And Colorado, Haydn Primrose
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Medical cannabis may alleviate symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), yet access to cannabis-based treatment (CBT) remains inconsistent across U.S. states. The research problem was that state policy variation and administrative implementation produce inequitable access and clinical uncertainty for individuals with MS and for clinicians and policymakers responsible for compliant care decisions. Existing literature on cannabis for MS primarily addresses symptom relief, including spasticity reduction, pain relief, and improved sleep quality; however, access policies vary by state. The purpose of this qualitative systematic review was to synthesize evidence on policy and administrative barriers shaping access to medical cannabis for MS …

Introduction: Lung alveolar macrophages (AMs) and epithelial cells form the first line of defense against inhaled pathogens. Their interactions strongly influence innate immune responses in the lung, yet the mechanisms underlying this cross-talk remain incompletely understood. Methods: In this study, we established a co-culture system using a primary model of AMs (MPI alveolar macrophage-like cells) and MLE-12 alveolar epithelial cells to investigate innate responses and cellular interactions during bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced TLR4 activation. Results: Cytokine and chemokine profiling revealed that co-cultures exhibited significantly enhanced proinflammatory responses to both LPS and TLR2 ligands—including IL-6, TNF-a, and MCP-1 secretion—compared with mono-cultures. Strikingly, …
