Leading Where You Live: A Qualitative Multi-Case Study Of Public High School Principals Who Reside In Their School Communities, Joseph Held Feb 2026

Leading Where You Live: A Qualitative Multi-Case Study Of Public High School Principals Who Reside In Their School Communities, Joseph Held

Doctorate in Education

Despite extensive scholarship on relational trust, social capital, place-based leadership, and culturally responsive practice, little is known about how a principal’s residency within the school community shapes leadership demands. This qualitative, multi-case study employed semi-structured interviews, reflexive memoing, and cross-case thematic analysis to examine how nine Minnesota high school principals who lived in the urban, suburban, and rural communities they served experienced leadership practice, equity work, and emotional labor. Findings revealed that residency functions as a consequential leadership condition that reorganizes how principals build trust, exercise judgment, engage families, navigate boundaries, and interpret equity-related tensions. Six themes illuminated residency as: …

Ceo Duality And Environmental Efficiency : Empirical Case Study On Chinese Publicly Listed Companies Between 2015-2024, Mariam Ahmed El Taher Feb 2026

Ceo Duality And Environmental Efficiency : Empirical Case Study On Chinese Publicly Listed Companies Between 2015-2024, Mariam Ahmed El Taher

Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

The paper investigates the potential effects of CEO duality—where the CEO also chairs the board—on environmental efficiency in Chinese listed companies between 2015 and 2024. Energy intensity, or total energy use per unit of revenue, serves as a stand-in for environmental efficiency. In the full sample, CEO duality is consistently linked to higher energy intensity (≈19–27 units; p< 0.01) using firm, year, and (in the pooled models) sector fixed effects with firm-clustered standard errors, suggesting lower environmental efficiency under unified leadership. In line with creditor discipline, market capitalization is typically negative and substantial, headcount is positive, and leverage (Net Debt/EBITDA) is negative. Moderation tests reveal that leverage significantly reduces the duality–inefficiency link (Duality×Leverage ≈ −0.49; p< 0.05), while interactions with board conflicts, working capital, gender diversity, and disclosure/independence are statistically insignificant.

The study uses an instrumental-variable estimation to account for potential endogeneity, where CEO duality may itself be influenced by unobserved firm characteristics or past performance. Diagnostic tests (Anderson LM, Cragg–Donald F, and Sargan) confirm that the instrument, which is based on …

Staff Education To Improve Burnout Awareness And Mental Health Resources Knowledge Among Acute Care Nurses, Saharnaz Haei-Stransky Feb 2026

Staff Education To Improve Burnout Awareness And Mental Health Resources Knowledge Among Acute Care Nurses, Saharnaz Haei-Stransky

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Burnout is a significant concern in nursing practice as it is linked to emotional exhaustion, decreased job satisfaction, compromised patient safety, and increased nurse turnover—especially in high-acuity settings. Targeted education is essential to supporting nurse well-being and sustaining high-quality care This doctoral project entailed the implementation of a structured, practice-focused educational intervention to address nurse burnout and limited awareness of mental health resources in an acute care setting. The guiding question was, among acute care nurses, does participation in a one-day educational workshop on burnout and available mental health resources improve knowledge and awareness of burnout prevention compared to before …

Staff Education To Increase Knowledge Of Referral Completeness, Tamekia T. Lindsay Thompson Feb 2026

Staff Education To Increase Knowledge Of Referral Completeness, Tamekia T. Lindsay Thompson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education project addressed a practice gap in a psychiatric facility where nonclinical staff frequently submitted incomplete referral documentation for patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Due to the facility’s inability to provide acute medical stabilization, medical clearance is required before nurse practitioners can determine admission appropriateness. The project question was, Does educating intake staff on a standardized referral checklist improve knowledge of referral criteria, as measured by pre- and post-education surveys? The Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) model informed evidence translation, and the analysis, design/development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model underpinned the development and evaluation …

Electromagnetic Simulations For Vulnerable Road User Safety In 5g/6g Wireless Systems, Colin Mcnerny Feb 2026

Electromagnetic Simulations For Vulnerable Road User Safety In 5g/6g Wireless Systems, Colin Mcnerny

Theses and Dissertations

Protecting vulnerable road users is imperative. As 5G wireless technology matures and 6G standards are established, new operational technology emerges to reduce traffic accidents. There is widespread evidence to support the need for pedestrian awareness in modern traffic ecosystems as a significant number of vulnerable road users are injured or killed every year due to observable traffic failures. Computational electromagnetic (CEM) solvers are used to model, simulate, and analyze the performance of antennas deployed to meet this challenge. Validation studies using the Altair FEKO CEM solver demonstrate scenarios where vulnerable road users are at risk. The simulation data in this …

Artificial Intelligence And Additive Manufacturing As A Coupled Design System: Rethinking Inference, Manufacturability, And Design Education, Charul Chadha, Garth Crosby, Sabit Ekin, Mohamed Gharib, Eman Hammad, Congrui Jin, Ali Ahmad Malik, Noemi Mendoza Diaz, Calahan Mollan, Monsuru Ramoni

Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Faculty Publications

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming deeply integrated into additive manufacturing (AM) workflows, reshaping how designers approach geometry, materials, and process constraints. AI holds significant potential by accelerating design exploration, revealing complex patterns in AM behavior, and supporting earlier assessment of manufacturability. At the same time, it introduces new risks related to model transparency, data quality, physical validity, and the potential for overreliance by students and practitioners. This perspective examines these issues through four guiding questions that address the role of AI in AM-enabled design, the gaps that limit or enable AI contribution, the implications for engineering education, and the responsibilities …
