Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Faculty Publications

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming deeply integrated into additive manufacturing (AM) workflows, reshaping how designers approach geometry, materials, and process constraints. AI holds significant potential by accelerating design exploration, revealing complex patterns in AM behavior, and supporting earlier assessment of manufacturability. At the same time, it introduces new risks related to model transparency, data quality, physical validity, and the potential for overreliance by students and practitioners. This perspective examines these issues through four guiding questions that address the role of AI in AM-enabled design, the gaps that limit or enable AI contribution, the implications for engineering education, and the responsibilities …

Digital-Era Dawn Raids And Proportional Enforcement Approach, Ahmed Saim Pehlivanli, Zeki Emre Kurt Feb 2026

Digital-Era Dawn Raids And Proportional Enforcement Approach, Ahmed Saim Pehlivanli, Zeki Emre Kurt

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

Dawn raids remain a cornerstone of competition law enforcement, yet their execution has grown complex in the digital era. Messaging platforms and remote devices increase the risk of on-site deletions, prompting authorities in Türkiye and the EU to adopt a strict-liability stance: any deletion after inspections begin is treated as obstruction per se, regardless of intent, recoverability or probative loss. While this maximises deterrence, it raises concerns of proportionality, privacy and legal certainty. This article argues that enforcement can remain effective and proportionate by shifting towards a harm-sensitive model. Drawing on Turkish and EU decisions, it highlights outlier cases in …

Department of Medical Oncology Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is a proven and effective tool for preventing several types of cancers, yet vaccination rates among young adults remain suboptimal, particularly among those not enrolled in 4-year colleges. This population can be more difficult to reach due to fewer established institutional touchpoints, limited engagement with campus-based health services, and greater variability in access to preventive care. At the same time, social media has become a dominant source of information for young adults, with TikTok (ByteDance) emerging as one of the most widely used platforms. Approximately 41% of TikTok's users are between the ages of 16 …

A Quality Improvement Staff Education To Reduce Mental Health Stigma Among Healthcare Professionals, Chinwe Anthonia Chukwumerije

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Mental health stigma among healthcare professionals remains a barrier to help-seeking behaviors, workforce well-being, and psychological safety. This Doctor of Nursing Practice project addressed a practice gap by providing standardized, evidence-based staff education to reduce mental health stigma. The practice-focused question examined whether implementing an evidence-based staff education guideline improved healthcare professionals’ knowledge, attitudes, and confidence regarding mental health stigma. An evidence-based educational intervention was developed using the ADDIE instructional design model and informed by an integrative literature review. The intervention was delivered through structured staff education sessions and evaluated using pre- and post-intervention design. Results demonstrated improved knowledge of …

Impact Of Electronic Immunization Record On Accurate Clinical Decision-Making In Ghana, Jacob B. Arhin Feb 2026

Impact Of Electronic Immunization Record On Accurate Clinical Decision-Making In Ghana, Jacob B. Arhin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The increasing complexity of healthcare delivery in Ghana highlighted the need for accurate and timely data-driven decision-making in clinical settings. The study examined how implementation affects the accuracy of immunization records, the speed of clinical decision-making, and overall immunization coverage rates in Ghanaian healthcare facilities. A quasi-experimental, cross-sectional design was used to compare clinical encounters in facilities that implemented the EIR with those that continued using paper-based systems. The Technology Acceptance Model guided the assessment of how healthcare providers’ perceptions of the EIR affected system utilization, while the Data-Driven Decision-Making framework and Anderson’s Behavioral Health Theoretical Model provided additional conceptual …

Resilience Education To Increase Staff Knowledge Regarding Stress Management, Patricia Ngozi Egwu Feb 2026

Resilience Education To Increase Staff Knowledge Regarding Stress Management, Patricia Ngozi Egwu

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This doctoral project implemented a staff education program to promote nursing knowledge of resilience training and stress management at an outpatient mental health clinic. Workplace stress contributes to medication errors and to poor Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Nurse Communication scores, both of which undermine patient safety. The practice-based question was: Does resilience education enhance stress management strategy knowledge from pre- to post-education? The purpose was to evaluate whether structured resilience education improved nursing knowledge of stress management, guided by the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) model. Using the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) …

The data were used to create a societal position statement and recommendations on best practices within clinical trials to determine treatment …

Extracellular Matrix Mediates Circulating Tumor Cell Clustering In Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Metastasis, Georg Om Bobkov, Khushali J Patel, Bree M Lege, Rong Zheng, Gad Shaulsky, Matthew J Ellis, Chonghui Cheng Feb 2026

Extracellular Matrix Mediates Circulating Tumor Cell Clustering In Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Metastasis, Georg Om Bobkov, Khushali J Patel, Bree M Lege, Rong Zheng, Gad Shaulsky, Matthew J Ellis, Chonghui Cheng

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Metastatic tumor cell dissemination is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Clustered circulating tumor cells (CTCs) possess higher metastatic potential than single CTCs. Epithelial adherens junction (AJ) proteins typically mediate stable cell-cell interactions; however, these proteins are frequently lost in highly aggressive triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs), raising the question of how CTCs from such tumors cluster. Here we show that the extracellular matrix (ECM) component hyaluronan (HA) mediates AJ-independent CTC clustering in TNBCs. HA is necessary and sufficient to drive clustering of tumor cells expressing its receptor CD44. Mechanistically, HA initiates contact between neighboring cells through actin-based membrane protrusions. As …
