Electronic Message Management Across Multiple Messaging Formats, Kathleen Alexandra Bryan, Shiblee Imtiaz Hasan

Defensive Publications Series

A technique is proposed for electronic message management across multiple messaging formats. Upon receiving a message associated with a first format from a first user for a second user, a computing system determines whether to send the message to a client device of the second user in the first format or a second format. Upon determining to send the message in the second format, the computing system obtains a summary of the message and transmits the summary in the second format to the client device of the second user. The computing system receives a response from the client device of …

A Pauline Dress Code Or A Roman Analogy: Reinterpreting Paul’S Discourse In 1 Corinthians 11:1–16, Nicole Francis Oct 2024

A Pauline Dress Code Or A Roman Analogy: Reinterpreting Paul’S Discourse In 1 Corinthians 11:1–16, Nicole Francis

Studia Antiqua

Historically, the debate surrounding 1 Corinthians 11 has focused on whether or not Paul is referring to women veiling their heads in church or simply wearing their hair up. This debate roots itself in a nearly universally accepted assumption that Paul is requesting a sort of dress-code standard for praying and prophesying in church. While this has been the dominant reading in scholarship for centuries, there are numerous compelling weaknesses in this interpretation. This paper will explore those weaknesses and provide an alternative reading: When confronted with group conflict, Paul attempts to reason his way through the hierarchical structure he …

Embodiment And Ritual Clothing: Dressing The Israelite High Priest, Ally Huffmire Oct 2024

Embodiment And Ritual Clothing: Dressing The Israelite High Priest, Ally Huffmire

Studia Antiqua

Exodus 28 and 39 contain a detailed description of the clothing God instructed to be made and worn by Israelite priests. In this essay, sacred clothing will be understood through the lens of ritual studies, characterizing clothing with a sense of liminality that defines and endows the human wearer with identity and power. The social meanings and implications of the high priest’s dress will be reconstructed by engaging in sensory criticism, drawing upon insights from the greater eastern Mediterranean world. Given the ancient world’s unique conception of a permeable body, ritual clothing had the ability to imbue the wearer with …

“Our Precious Heritage”: Catholic Subject Headings And The Assertion Of Worldview Through Cataloging, Deirdre Sullivan Oct 2024

“Our Precious Heritage”: Catholic Subject Headings And The Assertion Of Worldview Through Cataloging, Deirdre Sullivan

School of Information Studies - Post-doc and Student Scholarship

Catholic Subject Headings, a list of subject headings focused on describing and representing Catholic belief, ritual, and culture, was first published in 1942 by the Catholic Library Association for use in Catholic libraries. The creation of a cataloging tool solely to represent and serve a distinct religious population allows for an imposition of religious worldview by those utilizing Catholic Subject Headings onto the materials they interacted with. The need for a specifically Catholic cataloging system is also revealing of the complex tensions between Catholics and Protestants and within the American Catholic community in 20th century America.

Digital Natives, Digital Activists In Non-Digital Environments: How The Youth In Zambia Use Mundane Technology To Circumvent Government Surveillance And Censorship, Gregory Gondwe

Communication Studies Faculty Publications

This study investigates the technological strategies the youth in Sub-Saharan Africa employ to circumvent government surveillance and censorship. Centered on the 2020 Zambian youth protests and informed by interviews with 37 participants, we explore the youth’s innovative use of mundane skills to build digital communities, evade government surveillance, and leverage algorithms. The findings indicate that despite limited online access and government restrictions, the Zambian youth creatively employed their local skills to build social networks, disseminate information, and mobilize for social change. However, two contrasting narratives emerge: one celebrating the innovation and resilience of these young people, with the other raising …

Perceptions Of Blockchain’S Impact On Competitive Capabilities, Nicholas Munger Oct 2024

Perceptions Of Blockchain’S Impact On Competitive Capabilities, Nicholas Munger

JWU Dissertations & Theses

The intent of this qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of blockchain technology’s influence on organizational competitive capabilities within the financial services industry. The financial services industry is undergoing a paradigm shift resulting from differentiated products and services as well as an increase in emerging industry competition. The differentiated products and services developed during this paradigm shift have attracted consumers since the product offerings are simplified, experience focused, and cost effective (Desyllas & Sako, 2013; Pressman, 2003; Rajnak & Puschmann, 2021). As a result, legacy financial organizations are faced with obstacles to retain consumers and remain competitive (Desyllas & …
