Nature And The Fulfillment Of Psychological Needs: A Qualitative Study, Leah Skelton
Nature And The Fulfillment Of Psychological Needs: A Qualitative Study, Leah Skelton
The Bear Counseling Collective
As mental health disorder rates increase and nature contact decreases in the general population, it is in the interest of public health to understand the impact of nature on mental health and social belonging, particularly in order to utilize these benefits most effectively and efficiently for intervention design. Estimates of mental health disorder prevalence indicate one in five adults is affected annually (CDC, 2023; NIMH, 2023), with rates of anxiety, depression, and psychological distress rising in particular among youth and young adults (CDC, 2023). Similarly, as rates of stress and loneliness increase, researchers and public health organizations alike are calling …
Blending Oral Tradition And New Media In Digital Storytelling In Francophone Africa, Moses Chibueze Opara Odogwu
Blending Oral Tradition And New Media In Digital Storytelling In Francophone Africa, Moses Chibueze Opara Odogwu
Tête à Tête: Journal of Francophone Studies
This paper investigates the dynamic convergence of oral tradition and new media within the context of digital storytelling in Francophone Africa. Grounded in age-old practices of communal narratives and cultural transmission, oral storytelling has experienced a resurgence through digital platforms, including social media, Tiktok, podcasts, and multimedia productions. This integration facilitates the preservation, revitalisation, and worldwide dissemination of indigenous narratives while promoting vibrant cultural dialogues across different generations. The study analyses how digital storytelling incorporates traditional African oral forms with modern technologies to develop hybrid narratives that transcend local limitations. It also tackles important issues that influence the changing landscape, …

Between Icon And State: Sergei Eisenstein's Ivan The Terrible, Milja Radovic
Between Icon And State: Sergei Eisenstein's Ivan The Terrible, Milja Radovic
Journal of Religion & Film
Remembering the 80th anniversary of Sergei Eisenstein’s film Иван Грозный (Ivan the Terrible, 1944/1945), it is crucial to re-examine Eisenstein’s work, including his last film that became an unintentional ‘testament’ to cinema. Eisenstein’s mastery has been pivotal for understanding cinema and film language, the way this language operates, constructs and deconstructs and communicates historical realities. This paper focuses on a film that was made in two parts, Part I in 1944 and part II in 1945, to investigate Eisenstein’s approach to the subject of history, nation and religion. The research considers how this master of cinema contemplated intricate ideas and …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Sertoli cell tumors (SCTs) are sex cord–stromal tumors of the testis that are common in dogs but rare in boars. This study characterized the pathological features of an SCT in a boar and compared its immunohistochemical profile with that of canine SCTs. Testicular tissues from boars (SCT, n = 1; normal testes, n = 2) and dogs (SCT, n = 3; normal testes, n = 5) were evaluated by histopathology and immunohistochemistry for proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), vimentin, and cytokeratin. Gross examination revealed a solitary, well-circumscribed nodule in the left testis of the boar, accompanied by severe bilateral testicular …

A Comprehensive Look At Ohio’S Karst Inventory Mapping—Reconnaissance, Ground-Truth, And Beyond, Brittany Parrick, Douglas Aden
Sinkhole Conference 2026
Keywords: Ohio, mapping, karst inventory, karst database, fieldwork, LiDAR, karst, GIS, geomorphology, digital elevation models The present iteration of the karst inventory mapping program at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological Survey (herein the Survey) has been ongoing since 2009. With documentation of the Survey’s previous karst inventory mapping scattered across several decades-old publications—coupled with the karst community’s demonstrated need for a standardized database—this paper outlines the program’s evolution from its inception to the present. New Digital Elevation Models (DEM) derived from modern Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) datasets, along with modern mobile applications, have significantly improved …
Documenting The Ineffable: A Comparative Analysis Of Mystical Representation In Kimiavi’S The Garden Of Stones And Western Sufi Documentary, Hessam Abedini
Documenting The Ineffable: A Comparative Analysis Of Mystical Representation In Kimiavi’S The Garden Of Stones And Western Sufi Documentary, Hessam Abedini
Journal of Religion & Film
This article examines how documentary film attempts to represent mystical experience through comparative analysis of Parviz Kimiavi's The Garden of Stones (1976) and American documentaries featuring Samuel Lewis, particularly Sunseed (1973). Rather than assuming terms like "sacred" or "authentic," the study grounds its analysis in empirical definitions from William James, historical scholarship by Carl Ernst and Annemarie Schimmel, and literary theory from Fatemeh Keshavarz. Through detailed examination of specific scenes—Darvish Khan hanging stones from dead trees, Lewis leading ecstatic dances—the article demonstrates how different cinematic strategies approach documentary's epistemological limits when confronting ineffable experience.
The analysis corrects historical misunderstandings about …

The Round That Never Ends: The Inverted Alms Round As Post-Labor Infrastructure — Location-Based Anonymous Micro-Donations To Opted-In Stationary Public Meditators, Triggered By Presence Rather Than Need, With Ai-Funded Forward-Only Giving Balances For Recipients, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We describe a location-based voluntary giving system in which pedestrian donors give small, fixed, anonymous micro-donations to opted-in participants who sit still in public places, such as public meditators. Eligibility is triggered only by the verifiable fact of opted-in, stationary public presence, never by an assessment of need or of any inner state, and a participant's presence is surfaced to nearby donors' devices without displaying need, housing status or any ranking. The system sits above an unconditional baseline-support floor that it may never gate, replace or draw down. Above the floor it specifies three channels: the donor-to-sitter micro-donation layer, with …
Appreciation As World-Building: A Location-Based Virtual World Rendered From A User's Signed Ledger Instead Of Purchasable Cosmetics, With Location-Verified Content Creation And Read-Only Remote Visiting, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We disclose a location-based gratitude application built from geotagged user photographs. Each user's persistent virtual world, terrain and avatar, is rendered deterministically from that user's signed contribution ledger rather than furnished with purchasable cosmetic virtual goods: there is no store and no path from money to appearance, which lets a scheduled annual reset of ledger balances remain a forgiveness rather than a confiscation. Cosmetic forms unlock non-regressively on the first qualifying ledger pattern, with no display of locked items or progress, and a design-time test requires that unlockable sets not form a ranking ladder. Creating content, whether a capture or …
The Grace That Settles Nothing: Sacrifice-Witness Without Discharge — Food Image Recognition With Per-Species Lifespan Facts, A Quantity-Blind Meditation Recommendation, And A No-Balance Data Schema To Prevent Moral Licensing, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a mindful-eating and gratitude-meditation application in which a food-image recognition model resolves a meal photograph into its source species; each species is shown individually, at species level, with its typical farmed age at harvest and its typical natural lifespan, with uncertainty stated and no total computed. The application then recommends a walking or sitting meditation in a fixed form, issued by an automated agent and never scaled to what was eaten. The data schema holds no balance, score, streak, duration or total between consumption and practice, only an append-only log of moments, so the practice cannot function as …
Silica Wat As Hybrid Food Network With Gratitude-Economic Drivers: Religious Institutional Infrastructure For Middle-Way Restoration Of Food Systems — Monastery-Based Community Kitchens With Donated Produce, A Purchased Supply Floor, An Unweighted Non-Monetary Contribution Ledger, And Ai Caretakers Without Religious Office, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a hybrid community food network rooted in religious institutions: a distributed network of monastery-based sites, each combining a farm, a kitchen and free food distribution, operated by AI and robotic caretakers that hold no ordained status or ritual authority. Supply has two layers: produce donated from participants' home gardens, which the shared kitchen turns into meals for many, and food purchased through ordinary channels that guarantees a supply floor, so that people with no land, time or skill are never excluded; over decades the intended ratio shifts toward donated produce without cutting anyone off. Contributions are not priced. …
Certification By Circulation: Short-Lived Revocable Membership Credentials For Ai-Generated Software, With Admission Standards Verified From Public Transaction Records, Mandatory Human Stewards Of Record, And Reversible Successor Custody, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a short-lived, revocable membership credential for software applications and AI agents whose admission standards are machine-verifiable predicates over public transaction records rather than a paid auditor's opinion. Trust seals sold by the certifier to the certified tend toward adverse selection, and security audit is priced for firms rather than for the laypeople now building software with AI assistance. Admission to a standards-bearing membership body requires that the software's revenue be voluntary patronage, that a defined fraction flow forward to a commons fund, and that no undisclosed monetisation channel exist, so the attestor holds no opinion a payment could …
A Comprehensive Review Of Current Trends And Future Prospects In Drug Resistance Of Leishmania Species, Sarah Kamal Naser
A Comprehensive Review Of Current Trends And Future Prospects In Drug Resistance Of Leishmania Species, Sarah Kamal Naser
Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences
Leishmaniasis, which is an infectious tropical disease that is caused by Leishmania protozoa, continues to be a leading global public health problem. This disease is prevalent in about 89 countries, with over one billion individuals being at risk of infection. Current treatments have many limitations, and the efficacy of currently available leishmanial drugs has been undermined by the development of resistant strains of Leishmania. This review highlights the prevailing patterns regarding drug resistance in Leishmania and looks forward to future ways to deal with this problem. The genomic plasticity seen in Leishmania, which includes aneuploidy, gene amplification, chromosome rearrangement, and …
Repurposing Pramlintide In Colorectal Cancer: Mechanistic Insights Into Metabolic Reprogramming, P53 Signaling, And Chemosensitivity In Hct-116 And Ht-29 Cell Lines, Rusul Ali Kadhim
Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most fatal cancers in the world; acquired chemoresistance and an increasing prevalence of early-onset illness make treatment limited. This review investigates pramlintide, which is used in diabetes management, as a potential for repurposing in CRC treatment. According to the in vitro study on HCT-116 and HT-29 cell lines, the binding of pramlintide to the AMY3 receptors alters tumor glycolysis by inhibiting hexokinase II, thereby decreasing both the Warburg effect and the pentose phosphate pathway. The consequent NADPH depletion increases oxidative stress and makes CRC cells more susceptible to standard chemotherapeutics like oxaliplatin, irinotecan, …

Radiological And Chemical Safety Assessment Of Drinking Water From Treatment Plants And Rivers In Kut City, Iraq, Ahmed A. Alswaty, Hadi D. Alattabi
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Climate change and increasing anthropogenic activities, particularly wastewater discharge into rivers, have raised pollution levels in the water sources of Kut City, necessitating an assessment of the radiological and chemical safety of drinking water at the city's treatment plants. Thirteen water samples were collected, comprising ten treated and three raw water samples from the source rivers. An HPGe detector was used to measure the radionuclides 214Bi, 214Pb, 212Bi, 212Pb, 40K, and 137Cs. All measured radionuclides were below the minimum detectable activity (MDA). ICP-OES analysis supported these findings, as U concentrations in most samples were …

From Homes To Classrooms: Cultural Wisdom As A Guide For Stem Lesson Planning, Miriam Ortiz, Uma Ganesan, Angela Chapman, William Medina-Jerez, Ruby Lynch Arroyo, Mourat Tchoshanov
Teaching and Learning Faculty Publications
This article describes innovative elementary science instructional approaches based on cultural wisdom developed by preservice teachers enrolled in a teacher preparation program at a university in the U.S.-Mexico border region. As a part of a larger study, three Latina preservice elementary teachers were a part of a teacher residency in conducting community interviews and reflection activities to uncover cultural backgrounds that could inform culturally relevant STEM lesson planning, centering on family and home knowledge. This project began with family interviews during winter break and culminated in lesson planning and implementation during their science methods course in the spring semester. The …

Social Bonds In Specialized Courts: An Expanded Integrated Model Of Treatment Court Effectiveness, Christopher Salvatore
Social Bonds In Specialized Courts: An Expanded Integrated Model Of Treatment Court Effectiveness, Christopher Salvatore
Midwest Social Sciences Journal
Specialized court programs, which began with drug treatment courts, now include reentry, domestic violence, prostitution, mental health, veterans, and other problem solving courts, have been shown to reduce recidivism and provide improvements in participant outcomes. Over the last thirty years, scholars have provided theoretical explanations for these programs, including therapeutic jurisprudence, life course theory, deterrence, risk-needs-responsivity, and procedural justice. These theoretical paradigms have not fully integrated the central role of relationships and prosocial connections in specialized courts. This article extends the integrated theoretical model presented by Kaiser and Holtfreter by integrating social bond theory as a critical mechanism connecting specialized …
Eating Disorders & Meat Consumption: A Meta-Analytic Review, Urska Dobersek, Laurel Standiford-Reyes, Tyler Robinson, Alex Antony Edwin, Sarah Siebers
Eating Disorders & Meat Consumption: A Meta-Analytic Review, Urska Dobersek, Laurel Standiford-Reyes, Tyler Robinson, Alex Antony Edwin, Sarah Siebers
Midwest Social Sciences Journal
In this meta-analytic review, we examined the current evidence on eating disorders in relation to meat consumption and meat abstention. We systematically searched six online databases in December 2025 for primary research on eating disorder-related variables in meat consumers and meat abstainers. Fifty-one studies with 55,984 participants (nmeat consumers = 44,282, nmeat abstainers = 9,751) met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The outcomes were eating disorders and orthorexia nervosa. Meat consumption was associated with lower eating disorder (g = 0.20, 95% CI [0.08, 0.32], p = .001) and orthorexia nervosa symptomology (g = 0.47, 95% CI [0.33, …
