Home Exercise Program Adherence In Physical Therapy: Application Of The Transtheoretical Model, Charis Brown
Home Exercise Program Adherence In Physical Therapy: Application Of The Transtheoretical Model, Charis Brown
Senior Honors Theses
Home exercise programs (HEPs) are a foundational component of physical therapy (PT). However, the majority of patients are not compliant with their HEP; they lack the motivation and habits necessary to be compliant. The transtheoretical model (TTM) is a framework for understanding the decision-making of the individual and is a model of intentional change. When properly understood and applied, the TTM can improve a physical therapist’s ability to help patients to change their behavior and to become HEP compliant. This paper seeks to address patient exercise noncompliance by educating and instructing physical therapists in the application of the TTM, which …

Batten Disease or Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a group of rare, fatal, inherited pediatric neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorders. NCLs are characterized by intracellular accumulation of an auto-fluorescent lipopigment called ceroid lipofuscin and neurodegeneration. Several forms of NCLs exist, some of which share some of the same features and symptoms but vary in severity and onset of symptoms with respect to age. Some common symptoms include progressive loss of vision, mental and motor deterioration, epileptic seizures, premature death, and in the rare adult-onset, dementia. Subtypes of NCLs occur when one of 13 different genes are mutated, and only two subtypes …

Contemporary Environmental Art: The Multidimensional Relationship Between Black Communities And The American Landscape, Sophia Perkins

Contemporary environmental art can be inspired by personal experience and reflections between the artist and their surroundings. Black women have a unique interaction with and relation to their environment. I would like to unpack the relationships between Black women and the environment by exploring a few different artists’ work, and by dissecting the effects race and gender have on one’s view of the natural world. I have studied the work of four artists: Torkwase Dyson, Allison Jane Hamilton, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Calida Garcia Rawles. Environmentally, I have a specific interest in bodies of water / Black waterways because of …

Potentiation Of The Immune Checkpoint Blockade Response By Metabolic Modulation Is Predictable Using Molecular Imaging, Renee L. Chin
Potentiation Of The Immune Checkpoint Blockade Response By Metabolic Modulation Is Predictable Using Molecular Imaging, Renee L. Chin
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Unregulated cell division is a hallmark of cancer. The high metabolic needs of the tumor cells result in nutrient depletion and produce a hostile tumor microenvironment (TME) for antitumor immune cells, protecting the tumor from immune cell-mediated control and immunotherapy. Two of these environmental factors, acidosis and hypoxia, are commonly found in solid cancers. In my thesis, I posited that modulation of tumor acidosis and hypoxia can serve as biomarkers by indicating immunogenicity and tumor sensitivity to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) as monitored using molecular imaging. Esomeprazole was found to promote tumor immunogenicity and induce tumor control when used to …

BACKGROUND: Dietary consumption has traditionally been studied through food intake questionnaires. Metabolomics can be used to identify blood markers of dietary protein that may complement existing dietary assessment tools.
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to identify associations between 3 dietary protein sources (total protein, animal protein, and plant protein) and serum metabolites using data from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study.
METHODS: Participants' dietary protein intake was derived from a food frequency questionnaire administered by an interviewer, and fasting serum samples were collected at study visit 1 (1987-1989). Untargeted metabolomic profiling was performed in 2 subgroups (subgroup 1:
RESULTS: In this study …

Towards An Evolved Immersive Experience: Exploring 5g-And Beyond-Enabled Ultra-Low-Latency Communications For Augmented And Virtual Reality, Ananya Hazarika, Mehdi Rahmati
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Augmented reality and virtual reality technologies are witnessing an evolutionary change in the 5G and Beyond (5GB) network due to their promising ability to enable an immersive and interactive environment by coupling the virtual world with the real one. However, the requirement of low-latency connectivity, which is defined as the end-to-end delay between the action and the reaction, is very crucial to leverage these technologies for a high-quality immersive experience. This paper provides a comprehensive survey and detailed insight into various advantageous approaches from the hardware and software perspectives, as well as the integration of 5G technology, towards 5GB, in …
